Lyrics:
Did you know that you could be wrong
And swear you're right
Some people been known to do it
All their lives
But you find yourself alone
Just like you found yourself before
Like I found myself in pieces
On the hotel floor
Hard times, help me see
I'm a good man with a good heart
Had a tough time, got a rough start
But I finally learned to let it go
Now I'm right here, and I'm right now
And I'm open, knowing somehow
That my shadow days are over
My shadow days are over now
Well I ain't no trouble maker
And I never meant her harm
But it doesn't mean I didn't make it
Hard to carry on
Well it sucks to be honest (honest)
And it hurts to be real
But it's nice to make some love
That I can finally feel
Hard times, let me be
I'm a good man with a good heart
Had a tough time, got a rough start
But I finally learned to let it go
Now I'm right here, and I'm right now
And I'm open, knowing somehow
That my shadow days are over
My shadow days are over now
[x2] - Hudba
Reading throught the comments on most of John Mayers tunes, you find that there are a lot of guitar players that comment. There is a reason that John Mayer videos attract guitar players. It's because he is a brilliant player.
His technique is so unique and so good so that it attracts players from all skill levels
He’s a gifted musician
And he was the reason I picked up a guitar and the first thing I tried to learn was Daughters
He makes guitar players hate themselves lol.
@@PatrickRob82 He is good, but that's about that, he ain't some sort of mirakel, and this is one of his easier songs 🙂
your shadow days brought the world some great music and helped me through some of my own shadow days.
Helping me now...
what a talented guy, right? He was definetly born to make music.
jeannpaul12 born and raised? ;D
Caroline Martin Nailed it
man the change in his vocals from his first album to now is just amazing. that soft vibrato....wow... i have always been and always will be a huge fan
i for one think he is the best singer/songwriter of our generation if not ever. you cant only love the music but also the emotion that each song gives. and also you cant forget the complexity of every little guitar lick he does!
His understanding of the guitar and his rhythm are unlike anything ive seen
So enderrated but so good. It's 2020, in the middle of pandemic, and this song it is one of little things that brings my peace right now. Everything is gonna be all right folks
Me too. Thanks Renata.
enderrated?
this song... gripped me. I have had some trials over the last few years that almost broke me. Had some things happened, said, done and all of that should have wiped out all I have worked for. These are the words and notes I wished to know how to produce. Thanking back on what I have over come, listening to this makes me tear up a little.
For anyone that wants to learn the song, its the same picking technique he uses for Neon.......... So good luck....
+hialex Just got down Neon, so I guess I can start with this one :) BTW, thanks for the tip :) the singing part is just so hard to pair with the guitar playing!!!
See my problem isn't the picking/strumming. It's my hands are too god damn small to play those chords. That's my curse... I hate that.
Jim Amaral buy a guitar with a smaller neck
Actually there's a little different from Neon. The difference is in the passage of the thumb.
sorry my silly question. ..is there another guitar player behind or it's just John? sounds as if there"re 2 guitars 😨
He’s the most underrated musician ever, only guitarists seem to know how good he is, I mean, this video has 19k likes after 8 years, that’s nothing!!
If you don't think he's that good, try to learn the song. There is tabs for this version. It's crazy tough, especially with the 2/3 finger anchoring he does to add a beat on top of the actual riff. If you still think it's easy, sing on top of it. Good luck.
***** I think his genius is in his lyrics and creativity. Anyone can play fast and crazy techniques, but he makes it sound different and beautiful and adds meaningful lyrics.
I agree, but he also is undoubtedly one of the best guitar players in music today.
Can't argue with that. At least within his genre.
***** Or if you think this is easy.... try to play Neon and sing at the same time :D haha!!
mitin timisin mmm...and what about In your atmosphere? the live version from the DVD... also very hard for me xD Mayer is a genius
Love how many guitarists are in this comment section. He's honestly one of the best out there.
amazing song, john mayer is seriously one of the best artists today, a true genius in my eyes....and the little smirk at the end of the song was good...haha
A very under-viewed video.
John Mayer has been a great inspiration in my music writing so far. I've listened to so much John Mayer that people say I sound like him. Haha. I just want to say, "Thank you John Mayer!" If not for you, I wouldn't be where I am now with my music.
Same here. A big inspiration. I've never really looked into who he is as a person, but his music tells me enough
10 yrs.... I go to this song to remind me I'm a good man... Thank you
I just wanna say, I love every John Mayer and not only the old (or the new). Everything he did and does, it is all amazing:)
hey, icame from the future to say this is the "middle john mayer"
l agree with you, indeed John Mayer is a great and
talented artist who's songs never goes out of style,
he's one of my favorites artist, he's songs still and
always heals the Soul, I pray God gives you lot of
beautiful days.
Mayer never stops surprising me. That riff is so unexpectedly beautiful!
When I took guitar lessons, my teacher used to tell me not to use the thumb on the E string to do the bass. I'm glad John Mayer never heard this guy.
Why on earth did he tell you that?
if anything, using the thumb gives you more opportunity to make more difficult chord shapes.
well for a beginner thats probably good advice tbh.. many people wrap their thumbs around the neck when they first hold a guitar because they dont know any better
Maybe it's because u were a beginner, if it's good enough for people like john mayer and jimi Hendrix it's good enough for u
IN the begginnning of learning guitar its better to have the thumb in the middle of the back of the neck because it gives you fingers an easier angle to press the strings without the fingers muting the other strings
A very underrated guitar player.. well no one but he is to be blamed for that. But he's a gem of a guitarist. I have never cared about his personal life goof ups and triumphs. His music has always inspired me :)
I didn't realise he was a good guitar player for a long time because he always played chick pop stuff.
***** those chick pop songs still have crazy guitar playing!
***** Definitely check out the John Mayer Trio stuff, he is one of the best blues guitarists going around, in the modern day anyway. He's always looked up to the likes of BB King, Albert King etc.
tryscoringmachine95 he is one of the most popular blues player yeah... but not nearly the best... nor even one of the best... but he's good...
Many of us were caught up in that. The tabloids. Then I heard Continuum. Life-changing. Ten years on and it's the soundtrack of the end of my 22 year marriage. My kids were raised hearing the album and it holds special meaning for us all - more so now with losing my father.
Thank you John. You have comforted us all in the past three years.
so much better it's crazy, I used to hear him on the radio and I didn't like it, I picked up a live dvd of him from the library and I was just blown away, it's insane how much better he sounds live.
Whoa....he certainly can play guitar.....the dude is brilliant.
Probably a good thing about living in England is that we don't really hear of his good ups, not that I care anyway - I respect the man and wish him all the best, but he will always be one brilliant musician who has inspired me greatly!
Always been a fan of John Mayer. Amazing songs, voice, and guitar playing. True legend.
Love love , do not get tired of hearing 😍
As always John: wow.
This is the best I've heard of John Mayer on a long time!
I love this man's music! soo much depth...
My favorite song by JM.......Awsome song
Terrific session. Really enjoyed.
this is insanely good. Love you Johnny boyyyy!
i'm loving these acoustic sessions
This man is like fine wine; he just gets better and better...

he's one of my favorites artist, he's songs still and

Goddamn this song…deeply deeply underrated. I just got out of a long period of making one bad decision after the other, which almost entirely ruined a relationship with a person that’s very important to me. I had a chat with that person recently showing them my newfound perspective on myself and our situation. I told them that I finally figured out I’d been kind of an asshole and a creep and how I’d realised that “you could be wrong and swear you’re right” and how I’d been doing so my entire life. This situation opened my eyes about that. After that conversation I went home and listened to this album again. To this day it still baffles me just how much music can connect us. There isn’t a single other songwriter who’s songs have felt this human, this raw and honest. Some people write relatable lyrics to be relatable but not John Mayer. He’s human and he writes about things that are so human you can’t help but relate to them.
He is an inspiration to a generation of songwriters and guitar players and I’m sure that him and his music will be my companion for the rest of my life.
I absolutely adore this album.
Just love this. Thank you John.
Thank you for existing, you’re a legend, a true idol🙏🏽
"Hard times let me be, I'm a good man with a good heart."
"Had a tough time, got a rough start \ But I finally learned to let it go"
Unreal talent!!...love him!!
so so so amazing! I cant get enough of this music, is on replay nonstop. that feeling when a song explains your mind
he's musical genius. no doubt he will be known as a legand.
Love the acoustic in this version.
Ive listen to this 100 times. Its so great.
tremendous voice and brilliant guitarist
I finally learned to let it go.
Another universal lyric that touches the soul.
Thank you John Mayer!
Can't wait to see what you create next! We are so blessed to by your artistry, expression & journey. Love your influence!
Am i the only one having tears in my eyes every time i hear this?
+teaspoon maybe its time for you to be nice :)
+teaspoon lmao what a dick :P:P:P
+LysanneSwings nope.....its very heartfelt and it holds great meaning with me, so yeah im with ya, tears everytime..John Mayer is the best. :)
Me too
I can't listen to this song without tearing up. it is very relatable to me, I've hurt people in the past and haven't been the best version of me but I look back and try to be better every day. But I'm happy for the rough parts because I needed them to grow. Much love
Your music changed my life john, thanks.
this song... it's just so perfect
sweet tune.
It mirrors what ive been through lately, and I belive it's totaly worth Loving no mater what you will get in return.
awesome performance, really
I love his smile at the end of this, you can finally tell he is content and happy :)
This is a beautiful song about starting over... I love John Mayer and everything he does !!!!!!
I honestly want a John Mayer unplugged kinda thing, just he and his acoustic guitar and some of his best songs🔥
damn u got it
I want this guitar john. Damn it it's beautiful.
it's a martin. great to play to
que voz maravilhosa😍😍
Dudes! He inspired me to continue playing that guitar! thank you so much John! :DD
I finally learned to play this song as this version, guys it's hard it took me months of practice to master it.. Once did it I knew there's nothing called impossible for me now.
Thanks John for keeping me inspired all those days ♥️♥️♥️
JM puts out more notes with two fingers than I could with all 5 of mine. Fml
Beautiful Track! So moving! It fills me with so much inner peace!
One of the most beautiful progressions I've had the pleasure of hearing.
Fun fact : John revealed during the live event he did in MT in august 2022 that the clock time on the B&R artwork actually has a meaning. The pocketwatch on the artwork is set at 10:38 am. If you take the average lifespan of a human being and turn it into a twenty four hours clock, Mayer was at 10:38 of his life when he released this album. Now he's at about noon. He said, as soon as you start thinking of your life as a 24h clock, you realize you got to enjoy every day because it moves so fast, you find energy to live and make the best out of the time you got left.
May it be another inspiration to everyone listening to this amazing track and album.
Wow, makes it more pressing to make the most of my time somehow. Thx for the interesting fact 👍🏻
Good quote !!! If you have listened the concert of Pine Creek Lodge you are a true JM fan !
My first JM show was that night, under those enormous, beautiful pine trees. I brought my partner's daughter who stood through heat and then rain to get up against the stage, eventually singing every word to every song. Best part of the night was when John told the clock story, looked to her (she's 23) and told her she was "at, like, 9 am of her life". Something, like that, anyway. I was sitting on a log at the back of the audience, clueless he was referring to our Julia. Not a week goes by we don't reminisce about that very special evening in Paradise Valley. Crazy fun 48 hours from Toronto to Billings and back. Worth every penny.
I love all JM musics, especially this, "Stop this train" and "City Love". These are soooo deep! John Mayer is the best musician ever!

@@LarryBill-ei8kh Your Body is a Wonderland certainly went out of style, but othwerwise you're right🤣
I get goosebumps EVERY TIME I hear this version!!!!!
This song just makes me feel good, even in the toughest times... Thank you very much John for everything
God, that is a masterfully built guitar. Great playing.
Adore this song. So good

I love the way he sings in this video, as if he were telling a story and like he was about to cry.
Such a beautiful version of the song John.
You are my god.
@Simply Put :))))) what a way to evangelize
Sweet picking technique
Gibson Blues aa
hahahah indeed
How does he do it😨
@@musicjrb4119 I think it’s just his classic thumb-index-thumb-index-slap technique but I haven’t started learning it so idk
he did this same picking technique he uses for Neon
The smile in the end,heaven!
Beautiful, it kills to hear this and know i'll probably never see him live...
Trying to find one John Mayer song to sing and play is so hard.
This is very easy to play! (The basic chord structure) sounding good singing it is a different story ;)
Try daughters to start with
Not Myself from Room for Squares is probably your best bet man
I love this Guitar Part Between 1:57 - 2:05
thank you for this one john, you are a kindred spirit my brother
he seems so happy and enjoying the fact of singing acoustic!
I like this version more because I feel it is faster than studio version and it suits the song better :)
Just down for about an hour to try and learn that first small beginning riff.
It's almost offensive how easy he makes this look. My hands feel like they've been in a vice grip
Grande Mayer!
i needed to hear this. it really relates to me entirely, thank you for your music.
i fucking love this acoustic arrangement
I was like
"Oh that looks like a nice little guitar"
Then I realized it was $10,000.
$30.000* 🤯 (it's the 00-45 not the "normal" 00-42)
@@johnnyzalami thats a vintage. Its 100,000 dollars
@@Helpsnekgettosubspls nope, look at the rosette, only martin to ever have the rosette in the fingerboard was john's stagecoach models, and the headstock inlay gives away that it's 00-45sc and not the normal 00-42sc

This song is my favorite song off of the new album, I waited until the album came out before I listened to a single song on it, when I got home I opened it and listened to it from start to finish, and this song was just the one song that spoke to me
He is such a beautiful person. love him and his music. his music is the soundtrack of my life. I LOVE YOU JOHN MAYER!!!!!

Yeah mate don't worry my ears work, but thanks
Kind of the same right hand technique used on "Neon" :) Hard one...
It's called the "clawhammer" technique. It's a banjo picking pattern which has been around for a long time. He's very good at it, but you can find plenty of tutorials on CZcams. Some of the best fingerpicking guitarists are also banjo players. Example: Ron Block from Alison Kraus and Union Station.
i love the little drum thing when john is picking the strings!
by far the most underrated and best john mayer song!
Much better than the original !
Hello Sarah how are you doing hopefully you are doing good??
A love letter to himself. Classic John! 🤣
Best version ever!!!!
I just cannot stop hearing this
1:54 When you're watching his hands so closely you notice the editor cut to the wrong part of the song for the upcoming closeup. Man, learning this style of finger picking changed my guitar playing forever.
there a couple edits like that. really annoying for trying to learn it
how does this not have a million views
It has two million views so that might explain why it doesn't have one million.
Every time that i see this video, i cry. The music of My life.
This is a great song. I have loved music for over 40 years. I know this man had issues in the past, but his talent is undeniable.
