I just found out her ghost left town
The queen of California is stepping down, down
#JohnMayer #QueenOfCalifornia #BornandRaised - Hudba
Only John Mayer can cover John Mayer and make it sound better than John Mayer
SO TRUE
John Mayer is one of the greatest of our time. Great song.
+Kevin Q Yes, he is.
+Kevin Q *all time
Nah, but he's definitely up there
Well, EC said of JM, something along the lines of: "He doesn't even know how good he is..." That's pretty high praise, coming from that source.
Kevin Q agree
I remember anticipating this drop for weeks. Here in 2024 and here to stay.
Playing a song acoustically quickly separates the talented from the pretenders. I could listen to this version of Queen of California for hours. It's timeless.
The only thing i hate about it is that he makes it look soooo easy and natural. DAMN i'm jealous.. Extremely gifted dude.
not gifted he locked hisself up in the attic and played as much as he could..
UberGamezHD Yeah, uh, as one who has locked himself up for long periods of time and done nothing but bang away at one instrument or another, I have to say that is not some kind of easy road to musical ability. I've done it for years and still play like someone who has been given a very powerful but unfamiliar instrument as treatment for a degenerative nerve disorder. This guy really is talented.
But still, he's been doing it for years for six hours a day completely immersing himself in a process and cutting off of any distractions. Then + more hours with bands, on stage etc., thousands of hours.
+ he is smart, intelligent, with deep understanding of what he's doing
+ he has great music intelligence
+ he has a deep respect for music and he simply loves it
+ he is rather emotionally stable and very consistent person
And all of that is contributing to his talent (and some other components :P)
Defensor Rationis
Extraordinary musicians got one thing in common: They literally spent their childhood/teenage years practicing their voice/instrument 24/7.
All of them, there are no exceptions.
He defines making it look easy. Also hello to your comment from 5 years ago
Anyone that says John Mayer isn't a good guitarist is ignorant. He is so unbelievably underrated its ridiculous. I don't think I have seen anyone with that can match his rhythm and talent. This guy is my insparation.
+Elijah Sutherland nahh, they jst jelly because john steal their gf's heart
Who ever said that?
His Travis picking and rhythm are great, but his lead guitar has a lot to be desired. And for those of you who don’t know, they are different.
+GtrPkr 24
So you, a fucking nobody, say his lead guitar skills leave a lot to be desired. But Claption and B.B. King didn't exactly seem to agree with you. Maybe, just maybe, the actual guitar legends are right and you are wrong.
Well Eric Clapton has called him the best guitarist alive soooo
This man must be awarded with 10 virgins each day of his life for playing and singing like that!
This entire album is an absolute masterpiece.
It's taken long enough, but the idea is slowly spreading: John Mayer is a living legend. My personal hero, guy is just amazing.
I think Mayer's voice sounds fantastic here. His guitar work is...well in a word...brilliant. Those microphones and the recording are really sweet to hear. Like he was playing in your basement and echoing of the cement walls.
please let john mayer know that you know more about music than he does
this is how people should see john mayer!
Love him or hate him he's one of the best to play the most popular instrument in the world
What's to hate? His personal life is his own business and the music he shares is lovely.
John played that like he left his car out front with the emergency lights on and was scared to get a ticket.
or he was running out of tape on the tape machine. At the end he says, "you guys have enough time on there? (for one more)"
Yes a bit too fast for my liking. Still great would have been better a tad slower.
I actually like this fast paced version. Got more kick
@@alanhowell3646I think the faster pace makes the song feel right. It’s got that frantic feel of the short existence we have. From one on to the next. No time to waste!

Jesus has great voice.
I knew nothing about John Mayer but the negative stuff. He's quite talented.
i really like this far more than the original studio version
SAME
Same
An obvious Zeppelin feel here. Going To California (released in 1971). Really well done.
And a little bit of 'Don't Think Twice, It's Alright'.
yes and he mentions Joni Mitchell!
John, California roots since 1860s.....you are right...sorry family.....we are giving it all away.....
+Grace Koch That's the unfortunate price you pay to live somewhere with nice weather, beautiful scenery, etc. Other people will gravitate to is. Blessing and a curse.
Only a Mayer song could have more likes than views!
God, this is musically gorgeous. All that pain, struggle, and sorrow paid off.
Stevie Ray Vaughn called. He wants his hat back. You rock John, and i'm sure he would be flattered.
Forget the hat, he wears a replica of SRV's native/tribal inspired (I think) necklace.
his old music and his new music are two compleately different things
God Save The Queen Of California.
Omg... His voice is perfect for any type of music... Countey, blues, rock anything.
Such balance between the vocals and guitar. So many don't understand the importance of making it all fit.
Born and Raised era is peak John Mayer
Bro just flowed on this crazy
When do people stop judging him based on some things he did back in 2009/2010?! 5 years have passed and some still don't see how much he changed. And yes, he made some very stupid decisions back then, I agree. But that shouldn't be an excuse for still calling him a douchebag or something. You should't judge him on these interviews and stuff. He grew up and regrets it. If you payed a little more interest in him you could have known this. Just respect him. He's a good man with a good heart.
cayaaaaXx what did he say?
cayaaaaXx Couldn't care less about him saying some stupid, thoughtless shit. People are people and I've said my fair share just like anybody else.
+Becky A. He basically just said he personally isnt attracted to dark skinned people. Hows that wrong to say? Anyone who takes it personally is a bit cookoo
+Benjamin Jimenez its not what he said, its how he said it.
+cayaaaaXx Eric Clapton did far worse actually and yet people seem to forget about it and treat him as a saint. At least they've all learned from it and grew from the humbling experience
its like he has 15 fingers
you should go listen to ocean by john butler trio. john butlers got like 25 fingers
Indian Summer
at least hesgot 5 more strings ;-) both are beautiful
Indian Summer dnt even mention butler in a mayer video lol
Like Dusty Dinkleman
Dinckleman's goin' down!
This dude jus hit a new level. Smh hittin bob dylan status now.
Search this song and check out all the different posts. You'll find John surrounded by an assortment of guitar players, backup singers, drummers....Then come back to this post. If you ask me, John on his own pounding this one out is far and away the best version you'll find.
I love John Mayer and his creative music-brain.
Hello how are you doing? It’s nice meeting you here.
Never a bad record from this dude...Hats of to ya John.
NOW I see.
The thumb on the G is what makes the riff in the break possible.
he's the only musician in this generation...
I like his music but I always thought his studio albums were over-produced. He should record all his songs like this. Just him and a guitar, playing live.
Couldn't agree more. Would rather hear his stuff live, sounds much better
that's how he racks big time cash at the live performances, its a marketing technique.
So you mean that Pino Palladino is useless?
How would you infer that? I'm not saying that the only good music is just solo guitar w/ vocal and nothing else. Just that I like a more stripped down, less tinkered-with sound, at least for some songs. I certainly think a lot of Mayer's songs could have benefitted from a "less-is-more" treatment.
bloody oath
Goodbye cold, goodbye rain
Goodbye sorrow, goodbye shame
I'm headed out west with my headphones on
Boarded a flight with a song in the back of my soul
And no one knows
I just found out her ghost left town
The Queen of California is stepping down, down
Hello beauty, hello strange
Hello wonder, what's your name?
Looking for the sun that Neil Young hung
After the gold rush of 1971
I just found out her ghost left town
The Queen of California is stepping down, down
If you see her say, "Hello"
Just don't tell me, "I told you so"
Joni wrote Blue in her house by the sea
I gotta believe there's another color waiting on me
To set me free
I just found out her ghost left town
The Queen of California is stepping down, down
he is, absolutely, the best of the best
John Mayer you fuckin genius ..... may you make music like this FOREVER !
Legend living. Listening in 2019 till the rest of my life.
I love how this dude can literally take on almost every genre of music and pull them off extremely well..JOHN FREAKING MAYER
You just stare and watch as he play the heck out of that guitar.....
easily best guitarist of the 2000's
Thanks for this information.
what information lmao
@@twoys440 XD same
Ur welcome. Anytime u wanna know about ur prostate u are more than welcome to ask me any questions.
Many can’t separate him from his Top-40 type music like, “Your Body is a Wonderland” (def not his best moment). He’s starting to appear on “Best Guitarist” lists - some, but but not all. There are still quite a few 100 Best Guitarist lists that omit his name. For those that don’t know his best stuff - their loss.
I didn’t discover him until a few years ago when I started learning guitar. He’s an amazing musician, definitely one of the best working today. I think I saw someone on this board claim that his lead guitar work is weak. I think that’s silly.
In fact, the thing that most makes him special is his ability to play so well in any genre and any style - acoustic folk, rock, blues - fingerstyle, pick, hybrid - lead, rhythm - he does it all really really well.
Never thought I would see a brand new performance in 2012 because of his granuloma. But, I did! YES.
For sure. It's what separates a good artist from a great artist.
I hope he does some acoustic versions like this for The Search For Everything (Changing, Emoji of a Wave & Roll it on Home)
Who knew my first man crush would be for this dude. He's in the Grateful Dead y'all and he kills it. I don't know what's up from down anymore. 😀
I've not listened to him performing with the dead. not really a dead fan. but if you want to hear more of John doing things most people don't think he does check out the john mayer trio if you haven't before
So there you have it: the best video on all of youtube
Amazing what talent and $32,000 worth of mics can do.
He's one of the few guys that when you put him alone with a guitar it's almost always better than the album
" when you're in the mix room watching John do that in 1 take and he asks you if we have enough time..."
Powerful, O.G. John Mayer
John Mayer... why so perfect???????
John has the total package: Amazing guitarist, singer, performer, and songwriter...doesn't get any better
That solo is so amazing I'm at a loss of words.
I love and hate this so much because it’s the best version of this song and I can’t listen to any other one without banging my head against the wall
john mayer what an amazing guitarist and singer
70 people shouldn't be here at all!
Bit of an underrated genius this kid.
#propsandpounds John Mayer - just a little guy in Arkansas - but Paradise Valley has saved my life nearly and I love Katie - just watched her Leno interview - much love from an Arkansas amatuer muscian - much love...
I have never used the word amazing except whe describing John Mayers guitar skills!
master with the guitar
i never say i dislike one of his songs untill i listen to a live version
this version is so much better than the original one.
if you close your eyes and just listen to the song...you will be wondering if there are two guitars playing or just one :)
Thats cuz his guitar sounds so beautiful
bybybirdybirdnub Also technique man, he's playing the bassline with his thumb and the rhythm and lead at the same time!
Tristan Thomas Tommy Emmanuel?
It's actually more cause the stereo pan of the two different mics on his guitar
Chester Frey i feel the same
just a genius
He rocks that SRV swag so hard
He just never fail
The only regrets of John Mayer it's just to doesn't have a couple of fingers more on his left hand.
Or having a thumb that is as long as your middle finger.
Not if you wanna play like John Mayer. Try playing Neon or Stop This Train. You'll see what I'm saying.
if i could have half of the moneys womens and glory he had Just playing like a God's of guitar i would be happy to have a monster's hand...even both i guess ☺
This. If you look at his hands in pictures his thumb is unbelievably long. He was made to play guitars. Huge hands super long dainty fingers and a ridiculously long thumb.
I can't believe how much better this version is than the original. I wish John Mayer would always sing like this.
The guy never seems to fall into an artistic rut. Almost like the beatles, each album takes you to another place.
its Ridiculous right? !! He is perfection ...completely flawless...*-*
so dope
Man...I want that hat! Great job John!!
This song is hard to play. Add speed and his vocals, rhythm, melody, and mojo. Truly fun to watch. Impossible to duplicate. Time to go to a show now.
Breathtaking.
"I gotta pee." ~ John Mayer ;-)
love you ❤
just give him a guitar and everything is gonna be perfect
Alright. Here it is. True Confessions. I watched a docu - something ' California Typewriter '. John Mayer, huh ? Ah. he sings and plays - real good
The good one, man, the good one.
If you guys like John Mayer, you should check out Nick Drake's "Pink Moon" album and specifically the song, "River Man." Nick was from England and came to fame during the early 1970s.
Unfortunately, people didn't recognize his musical genius, and he committed suicide at the age of 26. Timeless art found its way, though, and his music rose in popularity long after his death. His music was very similar to John Mayer's "Born and Raised" album.
Let me know what you guys think. Feel free to reply with other artists or songs that are worth checking out. Like this comment so everyone can see. Thanks!
truthspeaks84 Mountains of Sorrow & Rivers of Song album by Amos Lee, check it out!
i love nick drake so much
Truthspeakes84
You're absolutely right, about John Mayer and about Nick Drake. A young guy named Josh Turner does a Nick Drake song that is awesome. His channel is called Josh Turner Guitar, not to be confused with the country singer with the same name. I promise you will love his version of Nick Drake songs.
I heard pink moon in a Volkswagen commercial in the 90s and have been a fan ever since. His music is hauntingly beautiful.
bro i have listened to them and i gotta say they just feel like from another world thanks for recomendation!!!!!! By the way Do you know any other artist like this ????
This dude has talent in his poo.
You seems to know nothing about talent.
John Sørensen Og du kan ikke stave.
John Sørensen And you "seems" to know nothing about the English language. Take your false sense of musical elitism elsewhere.
Nick Miller Well, that was exactly what I told him, in Danish..
Nick Miller Dude. I like how you coined the term 'false sense of musical elitism' hahaha
This is John Mayer at his best... he's not even trying & look how happy he is
Greatest musician of our generation.
Always wonder what sales of this album would have been like if he had made it all acoustic like this Vevo series.
Does anyone know what kind of hat specifically he's wearing?
john mayer is a king of our days
This man's voice and fingers are amazing....
"you guys still have another car..eh, enough time , in there?" - as much time as you need Mr Mayer.
that must be a hendrix reference
Who else thinks he looks a little like Johnny Depp?
look up John Paul White haha
I thought the same thing lol
practice, experience, dedication and love.
lovely, just lovely
John hurry up and tour...
Hey guys. That guitar is yours for only 8000$!!!
+Igor Kurtz Try $14000 retail. You might have been referring to the price of the Martin 00-42sc this is the Martin 00-45sc. Only 25 of the 45sc were made, John has 2. They would probably fetch closer to $16-17000 now as folk are holding on to them
was wondering what it was. Is it old? Its got the old logo and tuners
no it's not old. They only started making them in 2012
Brasssssiiilll !!!!!
aha, his face at 1:29 is like, "i rocked that solo"
Pretty sure half of these views are mine.
