Lyrics:
[Verse 1]
Well, Olivia is taken
But a look like hers can be found from time to time
Yeah, Olivia is taken
But a look like hers can be found from time to time
[Chorus]
I'm thinking something like Olivia is
What I need to find
[Verse 2]
There's only one man in this world
Who gets to sleep with her by his side
There's only one man in this world
Who gets to sleep with her by his side
[Chorus]
I'm thinking something like Olivia
Could keep me through the night
[Guitar Solo]
[Verse 3]
Now I'm not trying to steal
No love away from no one man
Now I'm not trying to steal
No love away from no one man
But if Olivia herself were at my door
I'd have to say, I'd let her in
[Bridge]
Something like Olivia
Something like Olivia
Something like Olivia
Something like Olivia
[Chorus]
I keep thinking something like Olivia
Is what I need to find
[Bridge]
Something like Olivia
Something like Olivia
Something like Olivia
Something like Olivia
I keep thinking something like Olivia

Anyone still here in 2024
Just started learning this song. It’s very exciting with each step completed.
here brother, and here to stay
Still here brother. Been learning this since 2013 jeeeezus
Get lost... this is from 11 years back?! Damn... wadda jam!
@@jordanlunsford8826Such a cool tune to play. I learned it from Zartimus' tutorial.
John made a deal with the devil. No one knows what john got, but the devil got guitar lessons
This is so funny kkkkkk
Bruh 😂
Glad he made that deal, cuz while he's in hell, the rest of us will be loving his heavenly
guitar licks until the end of time. Small price to pay....Jack Black on Zeplin
The rumor says in exange he got lessons from SRV
😂😂
he says "cool" as if he didn't just inspire an entire generation of guitar players
damn right hahahahahaha
Hahahaha "cool" .... Fuck that made me laugh lol
Indeed
Wow, inspired me!
Been inspiring since the early 2000’s!
There are 4 levels of guitar:
1- Beginner
2- Intermediate
3- Advanced
4- John Mayer

Hahahaha
it's tuned to E-E-E-E-E
It's just standard tuning

Uhm yeah it is? It's just played in standard tuning.

The guy is a legend in his own time. Used to hate on him. Jealousy is a disease talent is a virtue. I’m a fan.
Alright, guitarists, it's only a 12 bar blues in G. But this does not allow us to overlook the technical complexity that this 3 minute long track carries. It is extremely hard to play it like he does, muting the strings with the left hand and letting the right hand pick freely and even harder to sing along without losing the tempo. This guy's got A LOT of groove in his playing, and this is something that lacks in most blues players nowadays. Give him some credit.
I love u
RandyLyreTV Indeed. And behind the "groove" is a lot of playing. Probably for more than 20 years. So everyone, keep playing and enjoying the guitar. Even if you don't get there to where Mayer is, you will surely learn to appreciate what he does.
True that... Anyone who says Mayer can't play or is overrated knows nothing about guitar. If anything he's underrated and prob has the best right hand technique in the business
RandyLyreTV in fact...he is muting with the right hand. regards
Luis Morales Was about to point that out. Anyway JM is great
He looks like the happiest guy in the world when he is playing the guitar.
Thats how you supposed to feel fam
That’s why he’s one of the greatest ever
That’s what we call talent
I also look like the happiest guy in the world when he is playing the guitar
Would’t you also look the happiest man in the world if your guitar sounded the same🤣
This song is WAY underappreciated in John's catalog. Freaking awesome tune.
The Album version isn't nearly as good as this one. The acoustic has become the definitive version now.
Agreed
It’s bc the album version is over edited, this is supreme.
john starts playing.
me: throws guitar out the window.
Yeah I just lit all mine on fire bro
Hahaha literally
Your ego says that. Free yourself from ego and things like guitar become enjoyable.
me: catches it

lol
No man, has gotten more people, in my generation, to pick up the guitar and learn.
Thank you so much Mr.Mayer.
Was the sentence erroneous? if so, please point out how, you troll.
Qwerty
*No man has gotten more people in my generation to pick up the guitar and learn. Thank you so much, Mr. Mayer.*
Now that is true trolling. Nonetheless, what the sentence was meant to convey is 100% accurate.
You are right Zack Allen, I would flow better without the first comma, thanks.
I was going for a William Shatner like feel.
Only John Mayer can play a John Mayer Song and make it sound better than John Mayer! 😂✌
I don't know what that means, but I like it.
leo kingz hahaha so true
Basically, 1>1
what you said just cancels eachother out
True
he used his fingers so fast that olivia wanted something like that
holy shit this comment deserves an award lmao
Lmfao. It's Friday here in Sydney, Australia. I just finished work, at the pub now, went for my first sip, seen your comment and spat my beer out lmfao hahaha. You owe me a beer! :D lol.
I’m a lesbian and I have to agree
This comment is why people love John mayer and hate the people who listen to him
Exactly. Did you see the "anytime john, anytime" comment by an Olivia on here?
It's crazy to me how John Mayer can sit down with an acoustic guitar, deliver an amazing, soulful, authentic performance, and say "cool" at the end like the chillest motherfucker that he is like ARE YOU KIDDING ME JOHN
There's something about live versions like these, which makes you never listen to the studio version ever.
John Mayer is one of the select few who sound better live than in the studio.
Yeah, though you can tell he has overdubbed the guitar on some of this...
+David Molyneux doesn't seem overdubbed at all
CJ Smith who else?
see at around the 2:00 mark. there's a small little higher-pitched riff that you can tell that he's not playing in the video
Philip Sayce.
Hi! my name is Olivia! I just wanted to tell you a story. My dad passed in 2012 and he used to sing this me and many other John Mayer songs. I miss him so much!! But a merry Christmas and a happy new year to you all!!
Merry Christmas Olivia !!
Greetings from India !!
Jesus loves you Liv! and He wants to welcome you into His open arms so you can be overwhelmed with His great love.
Watching this almost a decade later and it’s one of the best acoustic guitar performances I’ve ever seen. I’ve always loved John he’s taken some lumps over the years but he’s a thoughtful guy, amazing writer and CLEARLY the best guitar player of his generation.
i think people shit on him because of past guitar players but he’s just amazing.

That smirk on his face, knowing he's totally killing it.
Uhm....'Smirk' can be an Insulting word (seen it Used)....i prefer: Smiling with Happiness at Just pulling IT Off, or Happy looking with glee that He could even Play that!!! "Smirk", to ME, Means 'self indulgent', "Hey you fools...LOOK WHAT 'I' JUST DID? NOT SO!!!
That smirk is: ' he has completed life
He has a smirk on his face when he groomed Taylor
So funny performers and singers are usually can get nervous or stressed before a performance, hoping to get everything right, But John just picks up the guitar so casually and just killing it. no strain in his voice, rhythm totally perfect, and it all seem effortless. A true master.
I mean dude had been selling out arenas for 15 years at the time he made this video in all fairness
This is for you DAD! Can’t believe it’s been 17 years since you left me on your birthday - 7th August 2006❤🧚🏻♀️

+richgarc84 Yea man he's up there with greats
This man is just music. There are not many artists these days that can sing/play an instrument and make that sound good together
And Garth Brooks
The most impressive thing John did here is tuning the guitar perfectly just by ear. I've been a guitar player myself for well over a decade and I STILL can't do that 😂
he has a tuner pedal
@@stawlk_1076 huh.. never heard of that before. The more you know I guess

Can you imagine a world where John Mayer never picked up a guitar? I can’t.
John Mayer is the man! Tired of people slandering his character, who gives a shit. I'm a guitarist of 13 years. This man can play!
He's the best.
He's by far the best guitar player of his (and this) music generation. So much soul!!
Very creative sound. Gotta respect him going from the Berklee school of music
Yagyah Rabin Frusciante is more rock. I prefer Mayer, who indeed has more soul. (This coming from a #1 Peppers fan)
***** You can. Strat on 2nd position, Light gain on an overdrive channel, Heavy pick, Lots of double stops.
John's ability to fuse complex melody/harmony with booty-shaking rhythm & groove and SING on top of that is the reason he'll be my favorite artist for probably my lifetime.
He's the best singer/songwriter from the millennial generation and I'll take that to the supreme court.
@@chanty2192 The fact that hes doing this on acoustic solo but he might as well have a full band is something us friendless musicians will forever aspire to achieve.

One talented player and one guitar… no effects or overdubs.. Respect
Oh, how I envy his guitar skills. Mad on a guitar, lush voice and a great songwriter.
Well the main riff is actually not thaaat hard to play (it's all about the muting ;) ), it worked almost instandly for me, but to make it smooth like that is kind of a challenge... well it's far not easy to sing along while playing
stipser1
oh btw the way, it of course takes much takes much more to make this out of nothing instaed of simply learning something by tabs so he definitly has my respect for surely beeing a great musician :D
stipser1 I find this one painfully difficult to sing. Got the music down on the second day. Not performance perfect but good enough to start singing with it. I think this is starting my sixth day now and it is still giving me trouble. (LOTS) If I do get it, I'll deny it all. Old time subway musician. SPRING ST., N.Y.C., #6 TRAIN.

Put all the hype and bullshit and whatever else aside.
This is a just a guy who's just obviously happiest with a guitar in his hands.
Yeah you're right, but Mayer's got talent. A fuckin' awesome talent.
Thomas Schefferzick My man Mayer is sick, great guitarrist, sick talent indeed! ;)
***** and banged Katy Perry, he is a true fucking rockstar.
XxStonedKillerxX and Jenifer Aniston and Taylor Swift and a few others....

Well if we're going down this road.....I'd put circa 2002 Jennifer Love Hewitt at the top of that list.
I knew an Olivia. The most perfect human being.
it's a shame he doesn't play this version on his solo tour :(
Anyone that compares Ed Sheeran to John Mayer probably can't tell the difference in skill level between Hendrix and Frehley.
If they compare them it's probably in their song writing .. Lyrics and stuff. Everyone knows including Ed Sheeran himself that he doesn't play guitar like John... He even says in an interview that he isn't that great at guitar. He just knows how to get the sound that he's lookin for.
***** there is not comparision between Mayer an Sheeran, Sheeran sing beautifull, Mayer make beautiful in everlasting...
+Hugh Jass lyrics are a personal comparison but for me personally I would have to say that john mayer wins that round too. I've heard probably two or three songs by ed sheeran that can compare with john mayer's songwriting skill.
Yeah I mean they are both great lyricist but to each their own :) they both are awesome
+Dan L FU JOHN ALL DAY!!
When he did Born and Raised, I was so skeptical of this. It felt like an experiment gone. But I honestly don't know what it is about him, the voice, the attitude, the acoustic...This guy could sing a grocery list and it would still be a fucking masterpiece.
Totally could get his name initialed on my body. I don't see anytime, ever that I would ever not love him.
I could not agree more. I plan on getting a JM tattoo in the future. The guy inspired me to pick up a guitar!
Born and Raised was actually the first album of John's that I ever listened to. It brought me into his music. Then I went on to Continuum and I just got hooked with no signs of return.
After about 3 years of listening to all of his stuff, I still think Born and Raised is one of his best pieces of work... Now Paradise Valley, that one I could say was sort of an experiment..More like "let's quickly write and record some simple songs in order to warm up for the next feature album"
Kostas1601 Coming from Continuum, battle studies and JM Trio. Born and Raised was fresh, it was different. It took me a while to get into it, I was so used to the Blues-rock Mayer, I couldn't instantly falling love with this one...but there is some magic in him, in his music it just keeps drawing me back for more.
But for me, Continuum will always be his best.
He plays some heavenly stuff that absolutely no one can match and then he just says "Cool" and gets up. That´s some swag.
Thank you for writing this about me
Hello how are you doing? Its really great meeting you here.
All he has to say is 'cool', but you can just tell he is thinking 'Have fun learning that one ;)'
For sure 😂😂😂😂
Absolutely! hhahaha I've been struggling to learn this shit for over a month and I'm not even close.
I figured it out later the day after I herd it.... well the basics anyway. Had to listen a few more times to get some of his technical parts down though.
😂😂😂😂😂
@Stinkmeaner Justin Guitar has a really good CZcams video tutorial on this song. Look him up.
Damn! He just simply owns that guitar. It's like its a part of his anatomy.
John Mayer is the GOAT guitarist. Ok, byeeeeeeeeee
Fun fact : John revealed during the live event he did in MT in august 2022 that the clock time on the B&R artwork actually has a meaning. The pocketwatch on the artwork is set at 10:38 am. If you take the average lifespan of a human being and turn it into a twenty four hours clock, Mayer was at 10:38 of his life when he released this album. Now he's at about noon. He said, as soon as you start thinking of your life as a 24h clock, you realize you got to enjoy every day because it moves so fast, you find energy to live and make the best out of the time you got left.
May it be another inspiration to everyone listening to this amazing track and album.
John Mayer is one of the singers who got more viewers on his live performances than the actual MVs
he was recovering from vocal surgery when he did this. it was one of the few tracks he cut in this period of time.
When you have the most basic name ever and quite a bit your favorite artists have songs with your name. I feel kinda special
yessss, awesome
Only John Mayer can do an acoustic version of a John Mayer song and be better than John Mayer.
wait.. all these years I actually didn't realize that this was 2 layered guitars.. lol. still impressive
I think it's just a recorded take layered over the video, not necessarily two tracks.
If you close your eyes it's hard to believe the same person is playing and singing. Amazing talent.
The snare, the bass , the acoustic and the voice .. Every thing is in there.. On the acoustic No one can play as percussive as this guy. Period !
Johns amazing! but thats not a true statement at all. There are finger picking guitarist out there that blow him away.
Yeah, not to take anything away from the guy because he's amazing, but check out John Butler or Andy Mckee. They take it to a whole new level.
Hit up Simon levick, not blues and I advise you close your eyes when you watch it but that bloke can hit the percussive like a boss.
jordan hurinui
However much I like Mayer I gotta agree with these guys that there are some other amazing acoustic players that would kick John's ass (maybe not so many in combination with singing) but the master of all master on the acoustic is by a million miles Tommy Emmanuel. John Butler as one guy mentioned is way overrated imo. He has one song that is famous and that is overdone as well..
I didn’t know Johnny Depp could play guitar
Johnny Depp can actually play guitar so... the more you know.
He really can play guitar. He's even into a band before lol But yeah, John kinda looks a bit of Johnny here. I love them. Oh God!💓💕

The young man MASTERS the strings....The Mozart of the guitar, and Edgar Allen Poe with the pen... Something Like Olivia..
For those of you who understand how hard this is to play, I commend you. For those who don't well, now you know. His hammer on/off and chord transition is the best I've ever seen.
The chord shapes and the embellishments are easy for an intermediate. I did that. The hardest part is to match his dynamics and flow, for that you'll have to sell your soul to the devil.
This is the most underrated song that JM ever composed and play. He was like that guitarist who already master all difficult acoustic guitar technique and put them together in one song just for fun.
Playing that and singing like that it's just amazing
I must say that I'm not always the biggest fan of John Mayer. He often comes across as an arrogant, egotisical man whilst at the same time has produced some atrocious album-filler bunf over the years....Assassin anyone? jeez...
Still, I cannot deny, that the playing, feel and delivery here is PURE CLASS. A humble bluesman is where John is at his best.
+iamspartacus29 I find Assassin a really great song! Very nice groove by mr Jordan and a great bassline from sir Palladino! And the arrogant, egotisical man you know him as: It was 2008-2010... He realized he was a bit of a douche and since 2011/2012 he's changed a lot! :) That's actually the main subject in Born and Raised, I think!
Also, if we were to disqualify all the flawed people from being artists, we wouldn't have any artists. I mean Clapton did some crazy shit and we still see him for the legend he is.
Ian Mitchell It's not disqualifying someone as artist to not be a fan of them if I choose not to be, for whatever reason. That is my prerogative. Casper van Helvoirt People don't change like that, (leopard and spots and all that) more like his management told him to stop acting that way in public as it was hurting his image and therefore financial potential.
***** Me having followed Mayer for the past 3/4 years, I really disagree with your statement. The boy has a networth 70+ million dollars... doesn't really care about money I'd say, and fortunately he said himself so. Listening to 'Born and Raised' will be enough to realise that :)
You have no idea what he cares about. You're projecting. What he says publicly is irrelevant. He's proved over many years he's a narcissist by his actions, and people don't just change their personalities, unless he's had intense treatment for NPD that no one knows about. This doesn't change the fact he's great player, singer and writer at times, of course. I Just find it impossible to be a fan of someone with his character.
Just John letting that hat say "love you SRV." Nicely said Johns hat.
The guitar playing is also a great tribute to SRV !

The dude gets a bad wrap but he’s a flawless guitar player. I’ve seen him live and his tone is amazing, his playing is ridiculously error-free and full of soul, he’s the full package.
slash2jimi seriously, I mean sure I've never really been into his music, but his talent will truly go down in history as something legendary. The skill, talent, originality, influence and creativity is a package the ages won't deny
Prince played perfect, but John Mayer is excellent as well

Only dude that can solo and still sound like a full band 😅
He's like Prince in the sense that if you only listen to his studio work, you wouldn't realize what an incredible guitar player he is.
Always liked John Mayer and respected him. Now that I’m trying to learning guitar I’m just blown away.
So fresh!- each time i watch this video! He makes playing this song look so easy whereas in reality it can break your finger bones.
how on earth does he manage to sing along to such a difficult song to play on guitar, and that goes for his other stuff too.Genius.
Pink Floyd and John Mayer are a few of my fav artists. While Pink floyd sticks to the original version in the live shows, John Mayer "never" plays the same as in the studio version. I respect them for what they do.
John Mayer's music is what the best form of entertainment is. You listen to it and it has a great groove to it, you listen to it again and the lyrics are great, you listen to it to a third time and you appreciate the technique on the guitar. Come back to it a month later and its another experience, really good shit
and i am reading this comment, watching video (yet again) 6 years later…😉2023
So, I sort of dismissed this album way back when it came out, now in 2020 I'm playing it repeat. One of my favorite albums ever. Sorry, for being ignorant, but thank you for this John.
If anybody is curious, he's playing his first signature Martin, the OM-28JM Limited Edition. I read that there's only 404 of these bad boys out there. He's on record saying that this is "the one." Pretty identifiable with the big scratch beneath the pick guard and the triangle inlays. Pretty much as good as it gets right there.
This guy is the definition of "perfection"
The way he always plays his guitar with ease while doing the craziest chord progressions and riffs and at the same time sings perfectly brings me to the conclusion that he is an alien.
And no - you cannot compare him to Ed Sheeran or any other. He has a completely unique style. I love it
Ed Sheeran is great but John Mayer is musically next level imo. Absolutely brilliant guitarist
There's probably only one man in this world who can sing and play this song as well. He also wrote it. Being that talented is just not fair.
I just noticed how similar this riff is to the bass line in “Into The Mystic” by Van Morrison. I wonder if a John drew inspiration from that, or if it’s pure coincidence
freaking better than the original!!
Well, that ain't a cover...
+Mariam El Gebali she means the original studio version of the song bud
Don't worry I was saying it with no hate haha
+Ken Cox welp he always does the song better in the next recording
+Ken Cox Agreed. Although in reality...this was probably the "original", meaning he likely wrote it on acoustic and what we heard on the cd was the studio arranged and produced version.
