Huge thank you to Taking20 and Web DM for helping me to grow as a Dungeon Master and content creator. And of course a huge shout out to Nerd Immersion and Dungeon Dudes for helping grow the community.

I am always on the lookout for tips and tricks, and am constantly refreshing my DM knowledge. Thanks for this!
You're so welcome! Glad you enjoyed it
Hey dude love your stuff! I love the advice you give and in this video it was the same, however personally think however that DMPC can be done okay, as long as you make sure they aren't a true PC. So in my current game I have a character that joined the party. I gave her a stat block based off of soem class abilities just to make it easier for me to see, but I don't plan on ever really using them. She's kind of in the background, and I only plan on putting her a little more to the front of their attention (and not the battle) right before she dies (which I also have planned) so there's that. You said the important part though, don't let them outshine anyone. Make sure they're an afterthought in combat, and not an actual force. And then you can have be powerful, but let it go under the radar. She's helping you attack, doubling off your blows! She dodges underneath, using your opening to strike at the monster. It's more of assisting and making sure the attention remains on the players. Either way, to start don't do it, it can be tricky
Thanks for the summary of Matt Colville's advice :'D
I liked what you said when you said “you can roleplay while speaking in 3rd person.”
This is so often not seen but isn’t a wrong or worse way. Sometimes it’s more important to give a certain messsge and the particular dialogue isn’t important
Always looking to improve 😁
Yes, theme, premise, or leitmotif are such underused tools in the hobby. And since you mentioned NPCs but did not outright stated it, I always tie those to the theme, premise, or leitmotif, which usually helps with the second point you made of making them more memorable.
Immersive is for different people different things, the music example for example can pull people out of the game instead of making it more intensive. Thus I go the other way, I want everything more expressive instead of immersive, thus the experience at the table usually gets much better for everyone when everybody is playing outward and not inwards. Which ties in to the fourth point you make about roleplay: there again I would say not to write a backstory, since that is inwards again, it is telling not showing, no better live the moment, make up the backstory in the moment as needed for effect!
The challenge and difficulty advice is probably good for D&D, but I prefer to run other games that revolve around other things, so I have not much to say here. Overall, still a good video!
Totally agree with everything you said. Different things work for different tables, I wanted to make a baseline starting point but you're right that people should find what works for them!
I think you are a Legendary Legend @ All Things Dungeons & Dragons.. Very Talented & Super Smart.....👽👽👻😉
Wow! Thanks!!
I just like your videos. They are very well produced.
Thanks so much!
Yes, I am VERY good!!!!!
Hey Eric I am curious which mic you use? I got one years ago for my PC to play D&D online over discord but it is too big and bulky, and lately I’ve seen a lot of folks using these slimmer ones, which I hope are more lightweight! Thank you!
I thought DM meant private messaging?
🙋 *promosm*
Okay good video but I hate the background music. Can't concentrate on what's being said while having to actively ignore the noise.
Idk, this video feels like "in order to be better DM, you need to be a better DM"
Nothing groundbreaking, no dark arcane long-lost knowlege of running the game
