This is exactly part of the reason why Sherlock has been on a downward slope since Series 2, the show's creators are simply too aware of the internet. Bits like the "hilarious and random" gingernuts simply exist for social media to regurgitate endlessly. No offence to any of you, of course.

That's something people have been doing for a few years: As soon as someone voices any criticism, they are immediately discredited as a "hater", as if criticism weren't allowed.

Does anyone else just hate John after this just because he blames Sherlock for no reason at all? I think that part was worse than the process of Mary dying. And secondly: Do you really think she´s actually dead? I have my doubts... When Sherlock got shot the blood was just coming slowly out of his wound but when the bullet hits Mary there´s a whole splash of blood right away.
Yep. That was way more painful. I was yearning for some Johnlock and what did I get instead? ... About the second part, I also think she is alive. She faked it. How could she possibly react so fast unless it was planned all along? Did she said that secretaries know everything on purpose?
Martha Louise Sisson I think the blood is more since she was shot lower in the stomach, while Sherlock higher. Although I have my doubts since in the episode two episode one nurse looked extremely like Mary.

Honestly, I could go through all of the reasons why it's obvious he faked his death and that Sherlock's just in denial about that fact, but they're going to reveal all that in the next two episodes so why spoil it for you.

KNOW IT FAST he is dead. They confirmed it and said Moriarty was 100% dead.
They also said The Abominable Bride was totally a standalone episode that had nothing to do with the main series. They lie, they tell us they lie and then they lie to us again.

i am a Johnlock-fan i really liked her in the beginning. Even when she married John, but then she shoots Sherlock, lied to John to whole time, make fun of both of them, lies to John again, drugs Sherlock, correct John the whole time and then lies again. And then she died a hollywood death thats was over daramatic and maybe fake!

anyone who's actually read Doyle's stories knew Mary had to get herself begone at some point, though Doyle never actually explained what happened to Mary Watson - just that Dr. Watson was no longer married and had moved back in to Baker St. At least Moffat and Gatiss gave us an explanation.

I was an exaggeration of course, but since the episode was fake, Mary's death isn't real anyway ;)
Oh, that is typical in fandom. Every girl ever dated by a hero could die, and nobody cares. It's Bonanza Syndrome. The hero never gets a long term relationship, or the girl will die. But have something mess up the friendhip/partnership of the mains, and the fans will rise in revolt.
fancynancypigs I completely agree, the episode might not entirely be fake, but there are definitely parts of it that seem... off
Also, that phone number was one of those fake numbers they have ready for TV shows, EXCEPT for the last three numbers, that happen to match the letters JLC... just saying :)
Kim McCarthy You do have a point. But even though I agree with what you said in general, I think you're wrong to apply it to this particular show.
The problem with Mary is not that she's a main character's love interest. The problem is that she's a villain.
And trust me, as far as TJLC fandom is concerned, all the fuss is not just about John and Sherlock's "friendship" or "partnership" ;)

Flirting isn't cheating... It's slimy and ugly, but it's not cheating. If an ex alcoholic simply walks into a bar, he hasn't failed at sobriety. And I personally thought it was great character development for John. His mind is going to torture him for having the gall to entertain stich a thought before his wife's death. There's no way we're not going to follow up on the woman in the bus storyline.
I have to admit Mary's death didn't get to me. What did get to me, however, was John's reaction to it - his animalistic growl and his rejection of Sherlock. I know that it's a show about John and Sherlock, but still. As for John's cheating... I don't believe it for a second. Of course, that's what we are led to believe on the surface. But is it really the John Watson we know? Does it make sense? If he wanted to escape his new life as a parent, he would have found something better and less commonplace than that.

The first time I watched Sherlock was to improve my English for school. But after I saw the first episode I couldn't stopped watching it. It is a amazing series and I can imagine that this was a really hard work to make each episode. I want to say thank you. I don't know if my English was getting better. Greetings from Austria

That was a badass intro...
Not at all surprised that Mary died - in fact, at the mention of the name 'Norwood', I thought of the original short story, 'The Adventure Of The Norwood Builder', in which it is mentioned that Mary has died, and Watson has returned to 221b Baker Street, after moving out to live with Mary after their wedding. The whole run up to the finale - to stop Mary being killed by the destroyer of the Thatchers, suggested to me that she would die at the end. Sad, yes, but not surprising. Having read the source material makes this show even more enjoyable. I'm hoping that we see the oldest brother, Sherrinford (who appears in other fiction, including Andy Lane's Doctor Who 'New Adventures' novel 'All Consuming Fire', where Holmes and Watson appear alongside the Doctor's Seventh incarnation, and his companion, Ace. It's an excellent read. Sherrinford is even more intelligent and Machiavellian than Mycroft.

I like Mary as a character but for some reason I wasn't at all sad when she died. It was just like "oh". Even though I'm usually super emotional at tv and movie deaths for some reason this one failed to move me.
I have seen all the seasons and now I am watching all Sherlock's videos just to comfort myself

givemepizza I think what happened here it, Mary knew Vivian was going to shoot from previously working for her. So she jumped to defend Sherlock before the bullet even left the gun. We just saw the bullet go first for shock factor. Sherlock misjudged this time.

I was one of those sending Gatiss and Moffat to sit in the corner. I mean really. Even if you put aside Mary's death, the whole episode was ... not really like an episode. More like tons of sketches with the lack of flow. I'm hoping for something a lot grander next.
