That's really cool. I'm in Ohio and today was gloomy and damp so I decided to do some light pruning. I think I will wait till late fall to do anymore pruning. I have alot of fruit trees ect. I have been thinking about doing a CZcams channel. Thanks for the video.

Have you had any issues with planting them so close together? Everything I am reading says 10ft spacing minimum. I have a total of four plants and was thinking of building a trellis like this spanning approximately 24' long. Overkill?

The vines produced fruit for the first time last year. The first time I tried one they were not ripe enough and irritated my mouth but then I learned when hardy kiwi are ripe and they become very sweet and juicy. czcams.com/video/4o4Pm_aM3PY/video.html

Hi, Thanks for recording this video. How old was the plant when you did this?
It's hard to say how old the plant was when I bought it but I had it sit in the pot for a couple of years before I planted it in the ground. They did not fruit until after the second year in the ground for me but I found this information online. Hardy Kiwi takes a few years to produce fruit. Depending on the age of the vines you purchase, it could be one to three years before fruit is made. Yields will increase after the first year. Male plants need to be older than the females to perform their function.
@@NewEnglandgardening I just ordered some cuttings off of ebay. So, I guess I have a little bit of time before I need to even think about building the trellis!

What kind of wood have you used?
I just put to use scrap wood I had around. The posts are pressure treated but the rest is untreated pine so I don't know how long it will last.
Any fruit yet?
I noticed flowers on it the other day but I don't know if they are on both vines.
New England Gardening That's got to feel good. My Kiwi are about 3 to 4 years old and now flowers yet. Do you have a video on Kiwi pruning?
From what I have read the pruning is similar to grapes. They are currently growing every which way. I have multiple main vines on the male and female that I need to reduce to one in the fall. I just did not have the heart to prune anything. I had these kiwis in the pots for a couple of years before I got them into the ground and I think that was two years ago so they are about 4 or 5 years old I think.
Make it wooden with the help of the Woodglut instructions.

The only thing I see wrong with his trellis is that I'd have to spend hundreds of dollars on tools I don't presently own to build it.

Most of the tools can be rented at very low cost. :) And if not, ask your neighbors if they have tools laying around that you could use. That's how I myself do it when I need to build something and I just don't have that particular tool for it: renting it or asking my neighbors. Same goes for my neighbors when they need something: they know where to find me and can always use my tools too at any time given. :)
