Rudy I really liked this type of video, please teach more, like do you send all shipped packages tracked ? What about the cost ? And how do you mail so much without getting shot by the post office people, my post office people are angry when I take a letter to them :) also talk about pallets etc, shipping and most efficient methods....if this post gets liked by Rudy, I'll eat a 🌮 tonight ....

Insurance may help but selling boosters for so low profit isn't worth it as insurance would kill the profit. Priority mail is $50 insurance btw. Did sell to a military base once, so it does help to ask USPS (APO/FPO I believe) about weird addresses if you can't find. Can send tracking for cards $10 or more, especially if multiple states away if you want. Not sure of any sites that are more convenient for buying/selling cards as gameflip is good for digital gift cards/video games.

    • @psychozen7169
      @psychozen7169 Před 6 lety +8

Depends on how you list any card 1$ an under usually no unless the account is new or has low to zero feedback is my advice. Or the address is wonky. Just remembered 1 million transactions with 1$ profit is a million. Dollars. But with magic cards you only need to about 250,000 transactions to make million dollars do to price difference in cards. Also the cheaper you can get packs boxes aka cases is the way to go. Rudy gets close to distributer pricing on cases so it hard to beat him on single not to mention he sell cards at his prices which is pretty cool.

As a seller on eBay for 15 years, this is one of the best videos I've EVER seen on the eBay platform. Many of these tips I've been using as a smaller seller for years.... This video should be mandatory viewing for all new sellers. Also, I would add to video all returns you get! eBay will take it as evidence against a scamming buyer

I remember the good old days on eBay, when we could leave buyers negative feedback. That went a long way towards keeping things balanced. Ebay has little to no regard for sellers now, they have incrementally made buyers have more and more power/protection. I also miss usps freight shipping, they annexed that around 2005. I use to be able to ship cards over sea’s for about a dollar a pound. Usps rates have gone up a upsurd amount in the last 10 years. Particularly for international shipping.

    • @awjre
      @awjre Před 6 lety +6

The problem was that sellers would give buyers negative feedback if you returned or complained about an item. It created a toxic market where some sellers basically blackmailed buyers into not giving negative feedback.

Many disputes that were under $30, I would issues a courtesy refund. BUT the owners wouldnt be happy because I didn't take the money from the buyer. " It's the principal" was such a common saying by my clients that it became a joke around the office. Great video RUDY!

Rudy, thanks for the Ebay video! I Hope you do more videos about Ebay Selling. A few questions:
    1. Do you fight cases against you or give in to the scammers when they open a case? (I once had a case as a seller where the he claimed he did not receive the card and a few weeks later the case because the "buyer received the card")
    2. What are is the price threshold for you to ship a package with tracking? I have thought that somewhere between $20-30 is correct but Id like to know what your thoughts are.
    3. For singles and playsets: Toploaders vs semi-rigid card holders vs penny sleeve and price thresholds for each.
    4. How important is it to dispute bad feedback and keep your positive feedback percentage high? I currently have ~200 and 100% positive and I strive to keep it that way.
Thanks and If I ever meet you in person the tacos are on me!

      1. Refund their purchase and immediately block them.
      2. General rule of thumb: Orders over $10 should be sent with a tracking number. When in doubt, ask the customer what they would like.
      3. Put the card in a sleeve, then in a top loader, and then in a team-set bag. Don't put tape on the top loader.
      4. Very important to fight it. Honest collectors just want their cards.

well informative video. sold a lot of my old vintage games, so many messages where people trying to play me, either ignored them and/or immediately put them on the block list.
my favorite was "I am not looking to bid on auction" after i refused to offer half of my starting bid as the buy now, when my starting bid was 50% the loose price collectors value. replied back "maybe ebay isnt for you then" and immediately blocked. sold the game for collector's value at end of auction.

As an eBay seller, I completely agree with the block list. If you let these people buy from you again after hosing you once, it's going to happen again, guaranteed. It will save you a lot of time and hassle in the future. Especially if they message you before purchasing with 101 questions about the condition of the product. They are going to find something wrong with it, send it back, or even worse try to extort money out of you, so they won't leave negative feedback.

I love your advice about blocking anyone that is a high-risk buyer. Anytime I get somebody who starts asking very specific questions and it sounds like they are just going to be looking for a reason to ask for a refund I block them. Like you said, maybe they are a nice person, but people can literally find any little detail and open a case and eBay typically will side with the buyer and it’s not worth the hassle.

It's not just buyers engaging in shady stuff. There are some terrible sellers out there. The most common of which is people who fraudulently grade their cards. Saying a card is SP/LP when in reality it's HP/Damaged. The other big complaint is people not packaging high end cards properly. I bought a revised Taiga that was shipped raw, no sleeve, no top loader. It's risky on both sides.

I liked it. I mostly buy on eBay but I do some risk management of my own. Haggling can save you money, lowering your exposure, and reveal information about the seller. Once the day goes by when it was supposed to be delivered start the case process. Respond to sellers in a timely courteous manner. Double check pictures. Hold off on feedback till you've verified the item is as described.
If everything goes well you get the item and leave them feedback. If it is late you close the case and leave them positive feedback. If you never get it you get your money back sooner.

It is very good that you emphasize difficulties and risks in selling cards. From watching your channel I got an impression that you encourage people to speculate on cards (instead of on stocks). You have a sense of humour so I like the channel but I have a strong feeling that magic cards will end up like postage stamps (understood as collectibles), anything with bigger printrun is almost impossible to sell nowadays. Collectors die off, and kids are smarter nowadays not to startcollecting an overpriced product. Add to this counterfeits which are of very good quality already.

The worst Magic buyers on ebay are those who buy cheap cards (those that are so cheap that trackable shipping is cost prohibitive). So much more obnoxious than those who buy more expensive cards. I have had several instances in the past year (only having 50-100 items listed each month and selling anywhere from 10-50 singles) in which someone bought a card for $1-2 shipped then opened an ebay case, claiming that I mailed them 3 junk commons rather than the card they ordered. I unloaded all of my junk commons long ago in bulk lots; I only have decent uncommons and rares left. Always seems like they're claiming that I sent 3 junk cards in place of the 1 card that they ordered... never 2 junk or 4 junk. Seems like I have a "not received" rate of these cheap untracked packages with printed (not handwritten) envelopes of 1 in 12-15.

Hey Rudy, I'm a long time $20 Patron. I have been selling Magic on E-Bay for over 10 years off and on, over $18,000 in sales for singles only. I've been pretty lucky, only having lost about $250 on lost cards/fraud/corrupt post offices. Brazil and Italy are risky. Unfortunately E-Bay protects the buyer more than the seller. Getting worse every year with the rules. Thanks for the info!!

As a private collector, I sold a few cards on Ebay around the time that Lorwyn was the newest standard set. I think I got lucky, no one ever gave me any crap. But, I got out once I realized how much of a pain it could be when someone has a question about a purchase. A seller really is at the mercy of whoever the buyer is.

Selling singles casually can hurt a LOT worse if you're a bad. I listed and sold Teferi and Dawnbringer on release day for around 20ish each. Monday when I went to ship, Teferi was 35, Dawnbringer was 30. The pain!

Ive been using eBay for 7 years, its been very hit and miss. In the early 2010's I must have sold at least 100 cards in a pwe and didn't get scammed once. Any one of those could have turned out bad, I once sent a foil Koth when scars was released(70) card without any skepticism. I would never do that today, have had too many bad experiences as a buyer and seller recently. As a buyer this week(of a lot worth at least 150), my package arrived damaged. Half of it was stolen at a USPS facility, they refused to reimburse the seller(no insurance I'm guessing). I got a full refund, but the seller lost out on 100 bucks. I felt horrible for them, they didn't even want me to send the remaining cards back. Ive had a few purchases that were never shipped that I needed to get refunded for and items seem to take forever to ship recently. As a seller, i've had someone send me a Vulgar message because I wouldn't accept a low ball offer last week. I reported and blocked them, but that just seems like the type of person to try something vindictive to sabotage an account. I'd say eBay is very good for buying as they will mostly back the buyer. For sellers, you can easily be extorted, get bad feedback for no reason, and pay significant fees and shipping.

I used to work at a gaming store and the crap we had to deal from ebay. One bought the product on a saturday night and left us negative feed back when it hadnt shipped the next morning. There were people would buy model that come unassembled and when they got them wanted to know why they werent put together even with the pic showing them in pieces. Hell we were selling grab bags with random cards in the store and someone caught a new employee and asked to exchange cause they didnt like the cards and when i opened it they had taken the rares out. That employee got their behind chewed out.

Like this kind of content. As someone that also sells on ebay (not mtg or tcg's) this is something that I do as well. That is managing the risk. I haven't had to add many people to the block list yet but it has happened a few times. Right now I do high return low volume so it's not too bad. I will be moving a bit closer to the high volume low return side of things as well so that may pop up more in the future.
The latest was an issue with a buyer that bought an item and said that I listed it as compatible with something (I did not, it was on the box itself that I photographed). Either way I knew it was the right part he said it didn't fit and asked for a refund. Rather than getting pissy and saying that they are wrong and going through all of that BS and trying to fight it. I just gave approval for the return shipping (I have buyer pays for return shipping in my listings, but they falsely claimed it was not as described so I had to pay for return shipping). A few days go by then and nothing. When the date comes that they were supposed to mail it back pops up, I wait another day just in case then still nothing. I called ebay and well long story short they closed the case in my favor, the funds were released and they are blocked from leaving negative feedback. After it was resolved I blocked them in ebay as well.
To close this out. If I fuck up, and I do something or say something in the listing that isn't true and or something I overlooked, and they can take some photos or otherwise show some proof that that happened then I will do what I can to resolve the issue satisfactorily. Part of that is to be as nice as I can and hopefully get some return business but also it's a CYA deal. If you have to partially refund someone on a large costly item it's easier to do that than to have a potential issue where they send it back but in a damaged state, or the wrong item or one of theirs. Or hell just a box of rocks. You at least get some of the sale without having to get the item back that you may or may not be able to resell for the same price or less. It's just mitigating the loss. 20/30% loss is better than 100%.
Well one last last thing... You have a minor amount of recourse with ebay as a seller. There are times when you can fight it and win, but mostly they side with the buyer. At that point if someone is truly trying to scam you by sending the wrong item back, and or just an empty box or something? Ebay doesn't really care, all they care about is that tracking number and showing delivered to your address. Once that happens your ebay options are almost exhausted. Especially if you haven't taken steps to protect yourself. I for instance take photos of the boxes on a scale as well as taking it to the drop off location and getting a receipt showing the weight as well. When I get an item returned I look up the photo, look up the receipt etc and put the package on the scale. If it's close or exact I examine the package without opening it. Even if it looks/feels like what I sent, similar weight etc I will set a camera up and record opening the box, and take photos. Well depending on the cost really. If it's a 10 dollar item I probably won't, but 50+ I will.
Either way good video, I really enjoy your content. I wish you did more of the buying ebay mtg kinds of things like in bulk. I haven't seen too many videos take that on. I am buying and will likely buy quite a bit of the bulk buys on ebay and make some videos about it. Like reviews and whatnot. Not under this account though, it will be entirely separate.

A video about shipping would be great. I used to be able to buy shipping online through Paypal even for items that were not sold on Ebay. Recently that seemed to disappear. I set up a Stamps.com account and then learned they charge $15 a month for that access.
So I don't know where I can cheaply buy shipping online that's affordable.
Also.... what the HECK is with all the confusing categories of shipping with USPS?!? Why is First Class literally the cheapest shipping method. And why can I not buy it online for so many small packages!?!? If you have insight here it would be greatly appreciated.

Selling via ebay, I ship 90% of my card with a good old stamp. I state in my description that it is shipped standard mail. Only is the card is of a higher price will I ship with tracking. Even with the paypal discount it drops it to around 2.50 for a standard bubble mailer. 2.50 vs. 50 cents thing about it. Like Ruby said you got to be willing to take the risk of being burnt. I take that risk for anything under roughly 15 bucks.

Yup watch out for ppl doing that shipping scam. I lost a 12$ card only since but they changed the address right after purchase claimed they moved. Then put in a ticket for the card slipped it out from under me. They actually lived in upstate new york. Which never showed me the first address blocking me from getting my card back and still had to refund him. So frustrating but that also made me highten my restrictions. Now I get less sales but all are genuine! Great vid and topic rude dude!
