    Additional Disclaimer:
As mentioned in the video, Buganda is one of the very few “modern kingdoms” in Africa (established well before the 18th century.)

Your thumbnail is incorrect, "Buganda" is not Africa's Last Surviving Kingdom, let alone a real kingdom. They are literally a tribe in Uganda. I'm from Africa's Last absolute Monarch which is in fact a sovereign nation ruled by a royal family that have reigned for hundreds of years. The country is called The Kingdom of eSwatini (formerly known as the kingdom of Swaziland) or simply eSwatini. The country has been ruled by the Dlamini Dynasty currently led by King Mswati the 3rd. There's also another real kingdom that's a neighbor to us called Lesotho ruled by King Letsie the 3rd. Check them out, I'd like to see an episode about them one time. I'm a fan of the page

Awesome video. I'm Ugandan and it makes me really happy to see our history shared on a global platform. But just a few add ons, Uganda got independence in 1962, Uganda is also a union of sorts of several kingdoms and chieftaincies albeit the Republican constitution of 1995 that's in force today. A few kingdoms you could look into are Bunyoro Kitara, Ankole, Tooro and Busoga. Other so called non kingdoms states in Uganda would be Acholi, Lango and Karamoja. You could look at the 1962 independence Order in Council to see how these kingdoms and chiefdoms were set up all those years ago. Again, much love for the work you're doing.

found it a bit strange since even the acholi have a kingdom ( writing this as an Acholi ) believe that with other "non kingdoms" which is also a non accurate term. it mostly has to do with funds how influential the kingdom is.
Furthermore the Acholi believe in decentralised system of governance, because power should never fall into one persons hand.

Came here to say this. While there are a number of nominal kings still left on the continent - including not just the Kabaka of Baganda but the king of the Zulu, the Emir of Kano, etc., Eswatini is an absolute monarchy - matched today only by the likes of other despotic monarchies like Saudi Arabia. The king is, however, hated by Swazis as he ruthlessly exploits his power, wasting money on luxuries while his people suffer in poverty.

Baganda are so wellcoming, and generous, they gave President Milton a wife, and He said, a good Muganda was a Dead One, He Killed so so Many Baganda with the Aim of Wipping them off the face of the Earth.
When Museveni came, Baganda welcomed Him with Warm hands, He was a Refugee from Rwanda, they loved His family and Supported Him to Become President of Uganda.
Recently He said, All those who Brag that are Baganda, He will Crush them as He has been Doing since He took Power!
Right Now, He is Planning to Steal the Land of Buganda which is the Only wealth Baganda people have!
So many Baganda are being, kidnapped, tortured, imprisoned, poisoned, others disappearing, or found murdered in Uganda by Museveni Soldiers!

Important Corrections. 1. The mythical first man , Kintu ( the equivalent of Adam in middle east) is different from Kato Kintu the first Kabaka/ King of Buganda kingdom who lived around 1330 AD. Before Buganda kingdom, the 3 original counties were known as Muwawa and had clan leaders who ruled on rotation, 44 of them before Kato Kintu. The mythical Kintu , the first man, was joined by Nambi, daughter of Katonda/ Gulu/ God from heaven, God had 3 sons and one daughter. Nambi requested her father, Katonda ( meaning creator of all) to change her from spirit to human to join Kintu on earth. Her request was accepted with rules, one of them was never to look back during her journey to earth because her brother, Walumbe ( meaning sickness that kills- lumbe) will get to know if she dares to look back, and will descend to earth with her, later terrolise her and her family. She broke that rule when she forgot her chicken's millet grains. So Walumbe also came down with her ( but in spirit form). Nambi and Kintu had children, grandchildren and Baganda call thme selves drand children on Nambi and Kintu. The story of Walumbe terrorizing Kintu's family is long. Nambi at one time cried to God- Katonda for help. Katonda sent his other son Kayikuuzi to catch Walumbe and take him back. Walumbe was a very fast runner and had dug over 200 under ground tunnels and caves in Mityana at a place called ttanda. they are still existing, estimated to be over 140 feet below, and who ever tries to put a foot near will fall in and never returns. Kayikkuuzi went back to heaven and reported his failure to catch walumbe. God then sent his other son to help and protect Nambi's family from sicknesses and clamities. He sent Kiwanuka ( a spirit that comes donw as a thurnder) translation:" that which comes down like a thurnder". It comes down to a chosen child, mediun or daity that will possess the spirit of Kiwanuka and get the powers to fight off Walumbe, tell the rituals to perfom to heal the sickness etc. So Kiwanuka is the equivalent of the Holy spirit in the bible. Walumbe is the equivalent of satan in the bible. Kayikuuzi was a son of God who was sent several years back before Jesus was sent to Middle east( 2022 ago). Katonda/ God's angels ( in swahiri called malaika) are known as misanga/ misangwa/ misambwa. There are those who are bad ( evil) and those who are protectors ( the good ones). Misangwa means 'those spirits who existed before human being" and are different from those spirits of dead humans ( Muzimu/ Mizimu). Buy books in many Ugandan bookshops if you want to know more

@HomeTeam History.. Bro, there are quite a few surviving monarchies around Africa. Lesotho, and Swaziland are two wholly autonomous kingdoms of which I am aware just off of the top of my head, but there is also the Zulu Kingdom, if you count the Bhekuzulu lineage as a recognized monarchy. I'm also told by many of my South African friends that there are various others among the Xhosa/Tembu. In fact, I'm good friends with the daughter of one of the chiefs who explained a lot of this to me..

The most influence is in the hands of Ankole/Nkore people. They have a monarch but the kingdom was not reinstated because of the foul cast system they had before and some speculate the current president does not want it to be (he is from it).... (You can compare that to DC being its own state). Other than that Buganda, Toro, Bunyoro, Busoga kingdoms were reinstated when the president took power in 1986. The reason Buganda is bigger than the others is they collaborated with colonialists for protection from Bunyoro, as such the capital of the country, Kampala was set up in Buganda and the country was later named Uganda.

Even for them to come into power it was with the support of the baganda who gave them the crucial central location and resources to wage war against that government. So I disagree...the most influential are the Baganda. @hometeam history

Our king has had a Prime minister (Katikiro) and ministers and ministries, we have a parliament (Lukiiko).
We have divisions in our land (Masaza), and there has always been a system where the last person down the system has a way to reach their message to the king. And these were not brought by the brits the only problem is that we never kept records the. This is the reason why the kingdom is so strong and it survives all the waves

A lot of southern African kings and chiefs utilize this method, the child of their great/royal wife. However, there have been instances, where non-great wives try to use western law e.g Roman-Dutch Law to dispute this, and becomes difficult in countries where traditional and western laws are not separately well developed, and intertwined at some level.
