Friday night dances and sock hops were always the best part of the week.* I could never count the number of times I've danced to "In the Still of the Night." I didn't understand at the time how special it was to grow up in small-town America in that era. Looking back, I can see it clearly. How did I get so fortunate??
*Just need to add that, during the summer, teen night at the pool was right up there with the Friday night dances.

Music has a beautiful ability to heal and it doesn't matter if that healing is to the mind or spirit. Life can be hard at times. Why not remember try to remember the feelings of long ago..the beginning of all our hopes and dreams. If we are able to lose ourselves for awhile .. remember and feeling can be a blessing. Ill take all the blessings I can get. I don't think everyone will have such memories and to me that's sad. Enjoy your music Jim!

I was 12 years old in 1956. I remember when Elvis started. And now He is gone. It just doesn't seem right. The 50s and 60s were the greatest time in history. People trusted each other. You never worried about getting shot on your front porch or at a store. People went out of there way to help each other in the 50s and 60s. People Preach forget about the past and think about the future. I don't want to forget about the past because it was a past worth remembering forever. The future is something to worry about.

Ronnie Milsap sure can sing. Lost in the Fifties Tonight was Milsap's 42nd single to be released. At the same time, it was also his 27th No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot Country Singles. Sad that his Mother did not want her own child because he was born blind and thought God was Punishing her. Thankfully his grandparents took him as their own at the age of one and a half. God had plans for Ronnie who is now 73 years old and is releasing Hymns...God Bless you Ronnie!~

Don't know for sure what it is about this song that brought me here but I sit here listening to it while thinking of my parents. They were married in 1948. My dad passed away in 2002 and my mom was buried today. They were more of your "old school country" kind of folks and my dad loved his bluegrass but my mom really enjoyed Ronnie Milsap's music. I imagine them dancing to this now.

Sounds exactly like my youth. Depending on which year (sophomore, junior or senior), I may not have been able to whisper how well my guy had played since the one in my junior year was mostly a bench warmer. 😆 But it was okay with me because he was a good dancer. Those Friday night dances and sock hops were always the best part of the week.* I could never begin to count the number of times I've danced to "In the Still of the Night." I didn't understand at the time how special it was to grow up in small-town America in that era. Looking back, I can see it clearly. How did I get so fortunate??
*Just need to add that, during the summer, teen night at the pool was right up there with the Friday night dances.
