    the dually halter has and extra strap across the nose that tightens when you pull on the lead rope and softens if your not putting any tension on the lead rope. Monty Roberts uses it a lot to train young horses and its not harmful if its used properly.

    @rathmiron The Dually halter is Monty 's patented gentle schooling halter whereby the horse trains himself to come off the pressure when he is negative and get immediate release when he is positive. The noseband is key with its rolled cotton core and soft nylon that glides through the rings for immediate feedback. Monty has used a form of this gentle technique for over 50 years. I don't have a dually halter (yet) but I took the tip I saw here and started using a very long rope (and a lot of patience -no pressure) to take my boy in the trailer. Loading went from 2,5 hours to 20 minutes is progress is being made.

    i have an andalusian who just shuts down as very smart and very cheeky. we have been stood due to his napping half on the yard half off and stood there for an hour. cannot reccomend this headcollar enough. worked within seconds of using it. expensive but works! he makes decision himself and walk on no problem.... brat he is!!!!

    During Join-Up, when I send the horse away from me in the round pen, I am saying, I am giving you an opportunity to choose for yourself. Flee, if that is what you feel is best for you. I want the horse to be free to choose his own course, because in that state of mind learning will occur. I patiently wait for the requested gestures of renegotiation.

    @rebonfie Some horses feel as if they are falling off the end of the earth to back out of a trailer that is a step up. Monty prefers ramps for that reason. Having said that, for schooling a horse to a step up (less than desirable) you can dig slight holes where the tires will drop down into a bit and bring the trailer level down to a less dramatic height for the horse to back out of. This will stop down his stabbing at the ground to find where the ground meets his weight. Hope that helps.

    @TheTimeTells yep of course. Ive also done something similar to this with useing a regualr haulter and a flat lunge line run up through the side rings, looped around the nose forming a circle and back out the other side then clipped under the chin. I do that with horses who also like to rear while being led. I do NOT like chains. I prefer to have the loop that tightens then looses to a chain that pinches and can hurt.

    walk behind her with a lunge line (works with my horse). Make sure all possible doors in the trailer are open making it as light and airy as possible and so it doesn't seem shut in. If you can travel her with another horse or sit in back yourself cos horses don't like being alone. And hang a haynet right at the back for the journey. Hope this all helps :)

    Get a dualy halter, along with "Join Up", I worked a Monty Roberts show when I was 12 and bought a bunch of training tapes along with a dualy halter, for one horse in particular, we usualy had to force him on by tieing a rope behind him and pulling him onto the triler, wich was so bad, and it scared him and it took 2 ouhers to load him that way.Now I can just let my horses go and they laod them selvs.

  • @debbieloucks
    @debbieloucks  Před 14 lety

    @debbieloucks The Dually lets the horse decide where he is most comfortable and teaches himself the sweetspot. It is where horses follow Monty around the pen naturally with nothing on their head :) Watch Monty do a Join-Up(R) and Follow-Up and see where the horse follows him at his shoulder.

  • @debbieloucks
    @debbieloucks  Před 14 lety

    @TheTimeTells You can - but it takes much longer and can be more forceful for the horse. The Dually twists slightly (like when you get a twist in your sock) and is less comfortable. So when the horse pushes into or pulls back from the Dually, he is less comfortable.

    Part 2 When the horse exercises his option to come to me rather than to go away, I welcome him as strongly as I can in the Language of Equus. I reinforce his choice so that we can work together in harmony. It is my hope that we can go forward from that point in the certain knowledge that we mean no harm to one another.

  • @debbieloucks
    @debbieloucks  Před 13 lety

    @showjumpinggal108 Yes, Monty says incremental learning is the way to calmly train your horse to get comfortable loading in a trailer. Horses are not cave dwellers :) and it is a bit much to ask for them to be comfortable naturally. We can help them trust us by spending time when there is no place to go and just practicing loading. For no other reason, what if there was an emergency - fire or something - it is our obligation to be fair to our horses and spend time calmly learning.

  • @sdas3
    @sdas3 Před 15 lety

    wonderful as usual, and can I say, cld be wrong, but isn't it the case that, especially for loading, the timing is absolutely crucial, that pull at the wrong time on the halter and you give the opposite message - it's like with a new language, you can have the right word and say the right word, but if the accent's wrong, that word will prob be incomprehensible to a person of that language? can't remember how much MR emphasises timing, maybe he's so fluent in equus he doesn't notice it?

    @rebonfie What may help is teach your horse to step up onto ground levels of different height...have you ever seen videos where people get there horses to stand on logs and stumps and bridges, if you have anything similar to that then that could help with loading into a trailer without a ramp :)

Is their anything else i could do ?? :/
