    Awesome book. Monty Roberts is an amazing person who has been knighted by the queen of England and has had amazing relationships with horses. Starting at 3 years old. I have personally read all his books. A+

      Monty Roberts could not have been knighted as he isn't British. That is the basic requirement to become knighted, the same as you can't become president of the USA if you weren't born American.

    I loved the cassette tapes (bought many years ago now and listened to endlessly!) of Shy Boy's story so much I cried, especially when that little pony turned and came back to Monty's camp. I bought a signed copy of the book too and Monty signed it again for me in Snetteron, Norfolk, UK a few years ago too. Bless you Monty. XX

    I've worked with horses and ponies before , and I think mr Roberts is right about horses responding to body language! Like dogs , horses can tell when you're scared, and they respond in kind. You have to stay calm when you're around them , otherwise you can't do anything!

    @rathmiron The Dually halter is Monty 's patented gentle schooling halter whereby the horse trains himself to come off the pressure when he is negative and get immediate release when he is positive. The noseband is key with its rolled cotton core and soft nylon that glides through the rings for immediate feedback. Monty has used a form of this gentle technique for over 50 years. See more MontyRoberts.xxx

    @showjumpinggal108 Yes, Monty says incremental learning is the way to calmly train your horse to get comfortable loading in a trailer. Horses are not cave dwellers :) and it is a bit much to ask for them to be comfortable naturally. We can help them trust us by spending time when there is no place to go and just practicing loading. For no other reason, what if there was an emergency - fire or something - it is our obligation to be fair to our horses and spend time calmly learning.

  • @showjumpinggal08

    I love how monty trains the horse to load and makes it look so easy! :) I have tried this with my horse but he always runs away and refuses to walk near the box , it makes it very stressful on the way to a competition and on the way home as it takes about half an hour to an hour to load him . Is their anything else i could do ?? :/

    I love Monty, hes amazing. I just bought an appy X sports horse. She will be 6 months when I bring her home. I wish she could stay with her mother longer. But this is the age her breeder says she's ready to go. What I'm wondering is if you can start join up on a weanlings? It shows Monty teaching join up on this little weanling, but everywhere I've read you should wait til they are 2. The thing is if I can join up with her when she is a weanling, teaching her to be brave will be much easier.

    @Shokara2 Presumably pmu means the horrible 'pregnant mare urine' industry that treats foals like waste products. Shut it down by boycotting the products, humane plant product alternatives exist. I work with rescue horses and I have also raised orphaned kittens who were tiny, my cats. My experience is any type of rescued animal will bond even more deeply with the rescuer - their love and gratitude is very strong. I have experienced this many times. I have used Monty's system already - fantastic!

  • @debbieloucks
    @debbieloucks Před 14 lety

    @Shinypants52 Yes, Monty has done a Join-Up with a wild mustang on 1000s of acres. You want the horse's energy to flow as opposed to stopping their flight mechanism down in the corners of an arena. Some people have used bales or jump poles in the corners to round out the arena.

  • @Shokara2
    @Shokara2 Před 14 lety

    @debbieloucks LOL exactly Diazreta. Breed doesn't give 100% give temperament... the horses experiences do. PMUs are taken away from their mothers EXCEPTIONAL young.. far from even being weaned some when they are only days or even hours old. They severely lack trust from that bond being taken away too soon... or having never been allowed to even form.

  • @Shokara2
    @Shokara2 Před 14 lety

    @TheTimeTells yep of course. Ive also done something similar to this with useing a regualr haulter and a flat lunge line run up through the side rings, looped around the nose forming a circle and back out the other side then clipped under the chin. I do that with horses who also like to rear while being led. I do NOT like chains. I prefer to have the loop that tightens then looses to a chain that pinches and can hurt.

    I really love the people who don't just stick die hard to one particular trainer. I think that all the famous horse trainers have great ideas on horse training. Its all about blending and finding the right combination for you and your horse. Although, Monty Roberts is my favorite

  • @jumping4free
    @jumping4free Před 14 lety

    @gemorge most racehorse trainers just want their horses to be the fastest. They could care less if the horse is jumpy or not. and yea ALL horse trainers should see this. You can still have a fast horse without it being jumpy as all getout. or gate shy

  • @debbieloucks
    @debbieloucks Před 14 lety

    @debbieloucks The Dually lets the horse decide where he is most comfortable and teaches himself the sweetspot. It is where horses follow Monty around the pen naturally with nothing on their head :) Watch Monty do a Join-Up(R) and Follow-Up and see where the horse follows him at his shoulder.

  • @debbieloucks
    @debbieloucks Před 14 lety

    @TheTimeTells You can - but it takes much longer and can be more forceful for the horse. The Dually twists slightly (like when you get a twist in your sock) and is less comfortable. So when the horse pushes into or pulls back from the Dually, he is less comfortable.
