- This video is my love letter to the Hoot Trail in Nevada City. It's the first true flow trail I ever rode. Through countless runs it helped me improve my ability to navigate berms, jumps and transitions. It was, and continues to be, a great training ground for me to improve as a rider. I wanted to take the time to highlight a trail that I've come to know and love.
And I know I've shot this trail several times before. Hell. Almost every other MTB CZcamsr in the area has as well. But not like this. Not like this.

Thanks so much! Yea this one was a brutal shoot. I was on the trail for 5 hours filming this one. But really had fun putting it together and glad I could put together a love letter for one of my favorite trails. Glad you're diggin' it!

Thanks man! Luckily I have a local bike shop called Ride B.S.C. I brought the bike over with short notice and they were able to replace the shifter and take care of a couple other things in a few hours! Got me up and running just in time for a run down Georgetown which is famously chunky.

100% agree! I saw a lot of less skilled riders out there having an absolute BLAST while I was filming. So cool to see all the skill ranges enjoying the trail.

Thanks!! Yea that whole area really is a gem. I love getting a full day where I can ride in the morning and fish in the afternoon at the lake. I need to start making CZcams millions so I can buy a house there and just stay every weekend.

It definitely had me worried. But I gave it the old YOLO and ran with it. So stoked it captured that shot. When I looked at the footage I knew it was worth the risk.

It definitely has its limits. I was honestly surprised it got that big sweeping shot. But once in the forest I used the cable feature on it to get the moving shots. To avoid crashing. Even though I still crashed it. 😂

You forgot to mention that hoot replaced a trail called “dead mans alley”, which was pretty much a straight shot down the hill to the road. A local biking legend held the Strava record on that one: @ ~45 seconds!

Awesome video what an amazing trail. For beginners and someone who hasn’t been how difficult is the climb back up?
Once you hit the bottom you can ride the road back all the way to the highway or there's a optional turnout about 3/4s of way up, just a short singletrack jaunt up to the harmony ridge parking lot
This is good. Very good. How is Lower Harmony going down to the (Rock Creek) access road? Do you use that road to climb back up and do loops?
Rock Creek is a super mild climb back up. Paved the whole way. Takes you back up to Harmony Ridge Market and parking. Super sessionable. Just hang a left as soon as you get off Hoot and you'll be on your way to the top.

So the climb up isn't bad at all. It's a paved road with a mild grade. I'd say 15 mins or so back up to the top.

Man. I think back to the last time you and I rode Nevada City. I legit had to take breaks. What a wake up call. I basically kicked it into high gear not long after that and got in MUCH better riding condition. Next time you come out we're KOM'in' it for SURE. 😂

It really depends on the speed you're going. But this run was pretty much real time. So I'd say approximately 4-6 minutes?

Definitely! The climb out is very mild. So I generally end up running this trail several times when I go out to Nevada City. A good route is Hoot, Scotts Flat, refuel at your car, Hoot again...then Miners if you're feeling brave and your legs can handle the climb back up!

I like scotts better, more bang for your climb
Scotts Flat is a blast too! Definitely a bit a tougher climb out for a newcomer. But totally worth it. Our usual day consists of Hoot, Scotts Flat, Hoot, Miners, Hoot. Nevada City is the gift that keeps on giving.
