Embedded With Special Forces in Afghanistan | Pt. 2

- Coffee or Die's Marty Skovlund Jr. was given exclusive access to embed with a Special Forces team in the mountains of Afghanistan, and accompany them on a combat mission into ISIS-held territory.
These Green Beret’s fit the common tropes associated with Special Forces: beards, long-ish hair, and relaxed attitudes along with a few sleeve tattoos sprinkled in for good measure.
Although they sport ball caps and Glocks in lieu of cowboy hats and six-shooters, they are frontiersman all the same - charged with taming the Mohmand Valley.
The team operates out of COP Blackfish, an isolated outpost in the Mohmand Valley and only a short walk from where the controversial “MOAB” was dropped last year.

What year was this? I think I was there lol
@@armygreen82nd thank you for your service from the bottom of my heart! I'm here for you!
You should have a link to episode one in the description
The local police commander, whom many in the comments section mistook for as an informant, was saying in Pashto; "Before you shoot at an American, you will have to shoot at me. Anybody who shoots at Americans, i will not spare his mother, wife, father or he himself". The translator did his job in a more subtle and "politically correct" manner. Whereas I have provided the word by word Pashto translation.

Badass. Middle easterners are fucking warfighters
Thank you for the translation.
@@johnnyultor Pashtuns aren't Middle Eastern. They're from Central Asia.

Thank you for giving us a look behind the scenes.
A big thank you and God Bless to those men who fight in the valley and to all our men and women in the military.
Thank you, Marty and CoD for giving us this hoofing content!
Thanks Coffee for bringing us this footage. Those Brave men Rock. Awesome the way our Air supports them !
Wish there were several more installments to this 2 part series. Badass! Enjoyed the hell out of it. Thank you.
This has got to be the coolest documentary ever
Phenomenal job putting these videos together brother!
Air Force Combat Controllers are some of the most well trained, toughest, and most important guys in any spec ops crew. Unsung badasses!
Rob E Most powerful warrior on the battlefield.
Not meaning to start a debate or argument but, Either tied or a very close second to combat controllers.......E.O.D. Never before or since have I felt such a strong feeling of fear and clarity, than I did when I was a an E.O.D. technician
All of AFSOC is unsung badassery. Most people have no clue. While SEALs and ODAs get most of the airtime, a huge percentage of the data that is crucial to their mission planning is collected and compiled by the USAF. CCTs, TACPs, SR, PJs, and SOWT are incredible force-multiplying support assets whose capabilities and information are often pivotal to mission success.

They really are. My dad's an air traffic controller and trains them and he says their some bad ass dudes
They are absolutely brave. Imagine what the taliban could achieve if they had more advanced army equipment. O wait.. they just got handed over a complete country.
They’ve got it now. They fought hard with what they had. Imagine now. Geez. Smh
Equipment they have no idea how to use or maintain...
@@zacsmith2026 agreed. However, they own the people within ANA and the former military too now.
If the coalition started with supplying knowledge about maintaining, they can easily keep tanks and other armored carriers. Plaines however, another story!
It's not the soldiers fault this happened. The politicians no exit strategy and no plan achieve their goals. The corruption should have been dealt with immediately it read its ugly head. Th President should have been got rid of and someone better than put in. The army issue should have been dealt with much quicker instead of being let stage on without proper equipment although it was always going to be a big ask to get everything in place. But it should have been planned for and executed from day one.
As much as anything it the bureaucrats mistakes that led to this. I BELIEVE THEY got sidelined looking up the Turkey's tail feathers and lost s out get of their end goal or never had one.
Thanks to all soldiers who bravely and selflessly risk and even sacrifice their lives fighting for peace and to keep us civilians walk safe around. Their strength and courage is insurmountable, their enormous kindness to defend the oppressed. Soldiers are the toughest people, they’re the real heroes indeed. Superhumans. How resilient they are to keep standing firm and keep fighting despite being in the middle of the battlefield, witnessing chaotic and horrible scenes. They are are amazing.
So much respect to all types of military. May God bless you all. Your work is extortionately difficult and significant. The world is grateful to you.
"Your work is extortionately difficult and significant. The world is grateful to you.
er no the world isn't grateful and their work is insignificant as the war against the Taliban was lost by the Americans.
The US has been fighting for peace for every year of it's existence apart from 18.
In order to have peace you have to stop fighting at some point (stopping searching the world to find enemies would also be rather helpful)
Very glad to see you blurred out their tats as well
Enjoyed your video and gave it a Thumbs Up

Death and danger aside, I find this land to be quite beautiful. The colors, textures...it's truly unfortunate that it is under such circumstances.
I was there during this time. The mountains and valleys are amazing. The green terraces in Nangarhar and Laghman are beautiful. If it wasn't for IS and the TB I would hike all over that area. Goes for Kunar, Nuristan, Laghman, and Nangarhar
It’s good now. You can go for hike as a tourist. I did it. Went up until Nuristan. Whatever u guys did put aside, we don’t want problem with US and the world. I hope the won’t either.😊
@@SS-gq1qh that’s bullshit
Du hast völlig recht. Nur leider leben da auch gute Menschen nicht nur die IS.
@@Bigunk-hc2ri hardly. The Taliban didn't want a war with the US, they offered to extradite Bin Laden if the US provided any evidence that he was involved in 9/11, the US refused. The Taliban kicked ass, they have no reason to not want to move on.

@@plutoisacomet Yes, really "dude". As a matter of fact, those soldiers have been doing their jobs for 20 years non-stop, but it's gotten us nowhere. Tell the numb nuts running the show maybe next time we can just wreck the place, then NOT spend 20 years handing out Band Aids. Fuck 'em!
@@billdanosky You are incapable of just wrecking the place, they don't have cities. You tried this in North Korea and now they're pointing nukes at you.
@@-BuddyGuy Yes we can, and we did. In the first two weeks of the Afghanistan campaign, the Taliban thought we had broken them. It wasn't until we started hanging around that they realized they could actually get at us. BTW, we didn't do this in North Korea and they don't have anything they can point at us.
@@billdanosky You "wrecked the place" with carpet bombing and they have the Hwasong-15. And if you did this in Afghanistan, as you just claimed, then why did you claim in an earlier comment that you should have just wrecked the place? Seems to me like a contradiction, and that you'll say whatever you think backs up the idea that the US is some unstoppable force, regardless of whether it makes sense. I made a mistake by wasting my time on someone of such inferior mental capabilities.
@@-BuddyGuy You can have the point for the Hwasong 15, although everybody knows it would have to be empty to make it here. However, I stated earlier (above), "maybe next time we can just wreck the place, then NOT spend 20 years handing out Band Aids". If you can't understand the meaning, I'm wasting my time on someone with limited reading skills.
8:47 is that Halsey in the background?! These guys are a whole different level of bad ass.
Legends thanks for your service team
Yeah, I'm all about the heavy metal music in this vid 🤘🏻🤘🏻
dude should protect those local Afghan informers identity
u probably know what will happen if taliban or isis find out who was spaying on them
I think they didn't because he is a Taliban member and they know it or because by the time they got around to editing the video, he might have already been dead....or they wanted him dead because he back-stabbed them. So lots of possible reasons.
@@wigon but he works with them and at the same he saw their faces maybe even gain entrance to ther camps that person must be protected at all cost otherwise he will expose camp layout defences and strength of the officers
@@ghostshooter6242 Most likely the other Taliban already know his role as a liaison between them and American forces. ISIS I'm sure already knew who he was so it likely didn't matter whether or not they showed his face. As for the layout of the camp, when you're working with ANA forces, or have locals doing work at the base (which is likely to be the case), it's pretty much a given that a detailed layout of the camp will be given to the Taliban and ISIS. What makes this video unusual is that it basically shows U.S. forces and the Taliban cooperating against a mutual enemy. For many of the Taliban, ISIS is a bigger threat to them than the Americans.
@@wigon Yep. The Taliban were not our enemy to start with, only became one because they help OBL and Al-Qaeda
. They are no saints, but it seems we have no choice but to try to broker peace with them to achieve peace in the area. Trump has been attempting to do that but then they go and do some stupid shit over there and mess it up for themselves. The whole situation is really complex in the tribal areas.
@@tar5us452 I don't think Trump has much to do with it, but at least he's not getting in the way. We've been trying to get out of Afghanistan since the Bush administration. The bigger problem has been that the U.S. military has been at war with itself. One one hand you have the "Hearts and Minds" officers and SF soldiers who really want to win over the Taliban to our side away from Al-Qaeda's influence. On the other hand however you have the majority of the military for whom "hearts and minds" means a 5.56mm double tap to the chest and to the brain. So basically you have had one hand of the military undermining the other hand. For example, very often in the past Special Forces and HTS (Human Terrains Systems) teams would spend months painstakingly developing relationships and alliances with tribal leaders after learning the local politics, economy, culture, religion, language, and world view. But then some new theater commander would get rotated in wanting to get some rank and kick some ass and would order an aggressive operation with conventional Army or Marine infantry units where they'd kick in doors, arrest people, and destroy all of those months (and sometimes years) of work that SF and HTS did in those areas.
Finally we are seeing, out of desperation, the conventional military finally letting special operations run the show there getting themselves embedded within villages and communities. The conventional military sees Afghanistan as a lost cause. The Special Operations community sees opportunity now with the spread of ISIS, to win over the Taliban to our side and end the war. Notice on this video how many of the SF guys walk around with no body armor. That demonstrates to the locals their trust in them. So oddly enough....all these years later, we MIGHT actually be seeing what should have been done years ago.
I would sometimes think these special forces unit are unfortunate to be where they are and had to do, for the sake of our freedom. in constant danger and far from their families and loved ones. On the other hand these are exceptional soldiers Who loves to do what they are called to do. The adrenaline experience keeps these guys going.
Thanks Got for air support.
