- This cheap fireplace makeover turned out great! Follow this video for an affordable and easy DIY fireplace update! I used high heat black matte spray paint to cover the brass elements and discolored internal brick of the fireplace. I also used peel and stick backsplash tiles to cover the outdated pink grout and white square tiles on the surround. And finally I used beautiful aquamarine colored fire glass to bring this 1980s fireplace back into style! I am so pleased with how this cheap DIY fireplace makeover turned out!
If you decide to try out this cheap fireplace update, I want to see! Tag me in your project pictures on instagram @AmandaFallonHomes =)
Here are links to the products I used to complete this fireplace transformation for less than $100!
Cleaning Recipe:
-1 Large Home Depot Bucket
-1 Gallon Warm Water
-1 Cup Bleach
-6 Tablespoons TSP
www.homedepot.com/p/SAVOGRAN-...
-Nylon Brush to scrub
I ended up doing this 4x to get this fireplace clean.
You'll also need:
-Painter's Tape
-Newspaper
-Rust-Oleum Black Matte Specialty High Heat Spray Paint (qty 1)
www.walmart.com/ip/Rust-Oleum...
-Mask
-Peel and Stick Backsplash Tiles
*I ordered 3 sets of 6 sheets and ended up using about 15 sheets total
*The exact backsplash I used is sold out at the moment, but this style is very similar:
www.walmart.com/ip/Crystiles-...
-Scissors
-Element Aquamarine Fireglass (qty 2)
www.walmart.com/ip/Element-Aq...
I chose to remove the fire screen completely to not distract from the fireglass. Alternatively you could spray paint the screen.

You cannot put peel and stick on a fireplace because of the heat! Almost all peel and stick tiles will list this on the manufacturers websites
They’ve actually made several peel and stick tiles that are intended for high heat surfaces and fireplaces you should give it a look they sell them at Lowe’s and Home Depot I think they like pretty nice
I couldn’t be happier with this fireplace! Haven’t tested the heat output seeing as it’s the middle of summer but the look is fantastic
Absolutely gorgeous!!! The fireplace is nice also!!
Wow! what a difference. Thank you I know what I'm doing before the holidays! Awesome video! absolutely beautiful!
Hi Tonja! Thank you so much! I can't wait to see your before/after pics!! Are you on instagram? Let's connect! I'm @AmandaFallonHomes =)
Just what I needed! We bought a house and my fireplace has similar tile to yours and i hate it! Glad I found your video!
Yay!! And CONGRATS on your new house!! I want to see the before and afters! Tag me on instagram if you post them!! @AmandaFallonHomes =)
Wow this is such an amazing hack! Can’t wait to do this to my new place!!! 😆
Awesome! Thanks for watching and congrats on the new place!! =)
Peel and stick tiles aren't meant to be that close to a heat source. Minimum 14 inches for most peel and stick tile options, so it seems like you're creating a fire hazard?
taylor rogers she's already a 🔥 Hazzard because she's so Hot
agree. You can buy actual stone peel and stick for about $15 a square foot at Home Depot or Amazon. You need a dremel to cut it. It's about 3/8 inches thick.
I think It would work Amanda good job ..
Love this, but my fireplace is wood burning. Will this work for mine? I love the fire pit glass
Good job! Very creative.
Thank you JJ! ☺️☺️
How did you remove the screen. Having difficulty with that part. lol. I put remote controlled flameless candles with my glass rocks from Walmart. It looks beautiful.
Lol! I would love to see yours! My husband removed the screen so I actually have no clue! Let me see if he knows the trick
Super mam😊
Hi was your fireplace a wood burning and you changed it? Im trying to change mine and wanted to know if it could be done?
I would like to know the answer to that question too!
What about the heat will the peel and stick burn
Very nice. I know you have stated that the tile you got is sold out, but could you please send a link or description? Thank you!
Love the fireplace makeover I need to do something with mine I hate the tan tiling it's so outdated lol
Thank you so much!! I hope you try it out! I’m still so happy with the result! Tag me on insta @AmandaFallonHomes if you decide to do a fireplace makeover! I definitely want to see!!

Nice fire hazzard with the peel and stick tiles!
Not only is it dangerous but now you are teaching other people to do it.
Did you add grout to the tile? Would it eventually fall without it?
Hi April! Thanks for watching! These are actually peel and stick faux tiles! I included a link in the description to a similar item :)
Can you tell me the name of the tile you used or the color?
Where did you get your exact tiles ? Love it
Thank you so much! I got them at Walmart but the last time I checked they were sold out.
Nice job
Thanks so much! =)
Can you see the original grout lines through the stick-on tiles?
Hi Angela! Not at all! I think the key is getting a stick on tile that is on the thicker side. Hope that helps! Please tag me in your pics @AmandaFallonHomes if you decide to try it out. Would love to see the result! =)
I have tile on the floor too. Can't peel and stick that.
Remove it. That’s what I did when I replaced my flooring.
Nice
Thank you so much!
People need to upgrade to a direct vent fireplace from Hennings in Vista, CA. Most efficient fireplace that actually puts heat in the room rather than out the chimney.
Amanda, this was beautiful! I'm using your great tips to DIY mine,🙂 TFS. You have a new subscriber!👍🏼
Please dont. Its a fire hazard!
Hi Amanda, nice result!
In the beginning of the video you said you were going to spray the peel and stick tiles black.
I didn't see that in the end result.
Did you try to spray paint the peel and stick and did or did it not work.
Reason I ask is because I want to buy some and change the colour.
Hi Angel! Thank you for watching! I ended up loving the tiles the way they looked so I left them as they were! I did test a piece of tile using that black matte spray paint and after 30 minutes it still wasn't fully dry, almost like the surface was just too slippery, so I'm not sure spray painting them is the best idea after all. If you try it out please post pictures and tag me so I can see! @AmandaFallonHomes =)
Amanda Fallon, Realtor® I've decided to stencil my tiles...
Would love to see the finished result!
Thanks for answering this question. I was just about to ask as well.
You are so pretty .
Thank you beautiful! You are so sweet!! 🥰
God pink grout is horrible. 😆 I'm looking for ideas to build my new fire place im glad I came across your video. I love you! Muah!
That’s great! So glad you liked it! Thank you so much for watching! Follow along on IG @AmandaFallonHomes ☺️
Im going to look you up on facebook instead. I have to set up my Instagram account.
So is it safe for heat?
Hi Maribell! Make sure any products you use are safe for heat, especially in regards to the spray paint that goes in and around the fireplace.
I did this, it warped and peeled off.
Doesn’t seem like it would be very durable
OMG NO NO NO! The area near your firebox needs to be fireproof. A gas fireplace gets hot too. Not only will the heat melt the plastic, it's not to building code.
You’re beautiful
Will cost more than $100. Those plastic tiles will melt too
Right. The new owners are going to be really mad the first time they light the fire. Never use peal and stick. Never trust a realtor for diy advice.
Those stickers are going to peel off after a few heat cycles.
No no no no plastic on your fireplace no
borderlands 3 gameplay
Omg, get rid of the music
You are setting up clients for disaster, possibly lising their home. You really should take this down. That stuff is not tile and will melt and catch on fire and its petroleum based so will burn in an instant!
WARNING. A realtor should know better than this. Some DIY projects may look great but are a health and safety hazard. Check with local building code regulations before applying any materials around the opening of the firebox. Most require at least 6 inches of noncombustible material. Vinyl tile and vinyl adhesives can melt and emit toxic fumes when exposed to heat. Code violations make you liable in the event of injury or fire damage and they affect the resale value of your property. You can be fined for violations. Insurance companies can reject your claim.
I think It would work Amanda good job ..
