  • In the field of recording, it's a common practice to blend ribbon and dynamic microphones! Ribbons tend to pick up warmth and depth, while dynamics pick up the brightness and high end details that a ribbon microphone sometimes doesn't cover. Sometimes, the blending of ribbons and dynamics is a match made in heaven! In this video, we listen to a 1960's Turner Model 87 Ribbon Microphone and 1970's Shure SM56 Dynamic Microphone both soloed and combined.
I post videos just like this one every Friday night, so subscribe to stay up to date on what's next!

Do you EQ the audio in your videos or are they raw recordings of the mics?

I don’t use EQ for these videos! Sometimes I will use compression if it’s needed, but I try to keep them as clean as possible.

First up, we need some full songs, my man. Always nice melodies on your playing. Second up, I don’t even know what to say about that Matchless.
Third, love hearing all tones of these old mics. Seems like full frequency response capturing is pretty overrated.
