  • When it comes to vintage kick drum microphones, many people consider the AKG D12 to be one of the best. AKG made a larger model with two of their famous capsules pointed in different directions, the AKG D36. The D36 comes with an S36 box that allows for 8 different polar patterns and 4 different bass cut options. Until now there have been no videos highlighting these microphones, so use this as a rare opportunity to hear one in action!

Sounds lovely ! Cardioid and super-cardioid are definitely its strong suit, and it has a lot of what I love about the RE-20, specifically that throaty upper "gnk" that gets me off. I wouldn't pay more than 20 bucks for it though, given that an RE-20 sounds way better to my ears, AND the RE-20 won't crap out and die in the middle of a keeper take, making me want to go homicidal on whatever hipster thought it was oh-so-twee to hang this decaying dinosaur when there are actual functioning contemporary mics within arm's reach. Then again, I'm completely unsentimental about any and all vintage gear, and demos like these tickle me as a reminder that, indeed, there is no magic in the old mics. Then again again, I love to listen to these demos, so make it make sense I guess. Subbed !

This 2 element principle is suffer from time diffrence and way diffrence isssue and cause problems like smearing atack or messing with the bleeded sources phase with diffrent angle.
So may the result was can be better when only one element is used.
The second thing is better to ad something to chrome grid because without damping is cause a lot of resonance inside and this is ruin everything above 200 hz.
I cover it with sack canvas on a D20 and a D19 and geting the strongest vintage sound and i like how gets clear and fast from low-mid to mid-high.
If u want the best atack from this mike u have to fixing or hardening the humbucker coils on a neck on capsule. If u want open up the sound u need to remove that coil from circuit.
This D36 mike is unique but for me is can be a donor for two closely same sounding D20 what is more useful in my standpint or may use it for vocal recording as is. And the hialuros price is call for a collectors not for the professional users.
The overal drum sound is killer but the bass drum is litle bit slow to me.

These were straight into a UAD interface, but typically an AEA RPQ!
