I agree Patti, it's just disrespectful of these guys to NOT ask you. It's not even about marriage. It is about being respected. I mean, its not like we can't move it up and find a guy who's serious about us.
I absolutely love Patti and her advice for women. I myself have wasted so much time invested and loved these men that would not commit and tragically became very hurt.

My God....I would so drop a woman who ordered me to buy a ring with that smarmy attitude...just as readily as you'd drop a guy who insists he want's to start fucking other women with a similar attitude. What a recipe for an unhealthy relationship- your attraction for him will plummet when he capitulates. You know how my girl got me to commit (not married...just dating exclusively for the first time in a long time)? By being better than the rest of the girls...independent, funny, beautiful, active, etc. After about four months she said she wanted to be exclusive or she was going to have to step back so she wasn't so emotionally invested, and she kind of went cold. I thought about it long and hard (like two weeks), and agreed because I valued her more than my promiscuity. I traded something I valued less for something I valued more. I think in a sense she valued me more as I was the first guy in a long time who wasn't busting her door down in hot pursuit. She knows I'm a man with a lot of options, just as she is a woman with a lot of options, and in the end I'm choosing her above all the others- not settling. What she did was not different in concept than what this woman is recommending, but in execution it couldn't be any further apart.
Interesting. So you say it was this girl who brought up the commitment part. Would you have been okay being as you were? or would you have brought up that you wanted to be exclusive?
I would've preferred to be promiscuous but spend most of my time with her. She was better than the rest, but variety provides a different kind of satisfaction. That said, I wanted to spend most of my time with her, so I valued that more than my promiscuity. Still with her.
So staying single would have meant killing off over 50% of the time you loved so you considered it better to drop being single because it only affects the smaller half? Thanks. So that's what it takes...

if you are a guy and can't commit within a year then you are not serious in the first place and should have never entered into a serious relationship. I actually think it is sound advice because i see too many crappy relationships where the people aren't happy but they stay together just cause when there is someone 100% better for them out there

Why do they need to get married. It's too risky for men to get married these days. Marriage involves money and love. When the love is gone money is the only thing that is left and women will take you to the cleaners. The family courts will probably take the kids away too. Men only seeing them every other weekend. DONT GET MARRIED MEN PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DONT DO IT.
then tell the women upfront that you never want to get married. don't string her along!
