I wish I had thought about this earlier. I've been in a relationship with someone for 10 years, starting when we were in our early 30s. In that time span, I did a significant amount of growing due to a significant loss of a family member and being diagnosed with an autoimmune disease. I also built my career from the ground up. When we were first dating, I was serving part-time while doing contract work and now as a full-time professional, my projects are being reviewed in prominent publications, and I am constantly asked to serve as a panelist or juror, etc. My stbx on the other hand, has changed very little while we've been together. He has ADHD but refuses to address it in any way, even through non-medical approaches. We moved into a house three years ago so he could fix it up, and it's been a construction zone ever since, with half-finished projects literally all over the house. When I try and have adult conversations with him, it's like talking with a teenager, he's either hyper or angry. He has major anger issues. I honestly stayed so long because every time I talked about it with about half my friends, they'd tell me that I need to focus only on the good, etc. etc. I decided to cut a few of those friends out. Thankfully, I am moving out in August, but I stayed far too long. He thinks he will be a bachelor for the rest of his life after I move out because he knows he isn't a good partner, but he doesn't know how to change. I don't wish him upon others, even though I also pity him.
