The GOAT's Wizard years are underrated and underappreciated.
If you look at those years with CONTEXT, it is pretty impressive.
The team was headed for a playoff spot and run until Jordan got hurt and sat out the rest of the year. Even off the bench (that he chose) he was still fire.

MJ was way ahead of Barkley in '93. That was the biggest MVP robbery for MJ. So he should have 7, actually correct that, he should have 8 MVPs.
in '89 he averaged 32.5/8/8 shooting 54% with 3.0spg and 1.0 BPG. He was a scoring champ, total points leader, all NBA first team and defensive first team, and steals leader.
Magic averaged 22.9/7.9/12.8 shooting 51% from the field. 1.4 SPG and 0.4 BPG.
Magics assist per game were incredible, but MJ as a SG was averaging 8.0 APG that season and averaged more than 10 PPG than Magic, double his steals per game, and double his blocks per game. Jordan should have at least 8 MVPs.
But regardless if he deserved them or not, the league could not keep handing him MVP after MVP after MVP. So if anyone got anywhere near him, they gave it to them to detract from any favoritism concerns for MJ. Even though he deserved all 8.

Growing up in the MJ era I saw his footwork, killer mentality, dominating, absolute scorer, and a intense strong will to win. Even when he came back in 2001-03 I could still see an aged Jordan with that. Oh and one more thing never seen a game seven and 6-0 in finals. 10 scoring titles, all defensive team pretty much his entire career, could fly in the air, avg 30 40 and 50 in games and playoffs, and more. Dont forget Larry Bird himself said it was God disguised as Michael Jordan. Thats a legendary compliment from on the the greatest if not the greatest clutch shooter in NBA history besides Kobe.

I was just thinking this and had wizards on pace to make playoffs b4 his injury
He was genuinely good that first year on the Wizards before he got injured. People look back and gripe about his efficiency but the whole league was pretty inefficient. Early 2000s were rough at times. But you also still had more than the current small handful of guys who would shoot midrange jumpers so it was a fair trade off for the aesthetics of not seeing five-out offense generating two outcome basketball ("three or layup").
This reminded me A LOT of the 55 against the Knicks. Same on fire status from the jump, I think he had 20 in the first quarter in 1995 at MSG. Just feeling the defense, toying with it, hitting dagger jumpers, little footwork in the lane, bankers and layups. This was a vintage performance of a vintage performance. One more for us mortals.
I was around back when M.J came into the league and was around when he and his Bulls became a dynasty. To this very day I feel like Mike could come out of retirement, lace up his Jordans and torch all the teams in the N.B.A! M.J was so good that people who were around back then honestly feel like he could make a third comeback even now! M J is the G.O.A.T and dudes like LeBron James could only wish to be as good as he was, amen.

Also I believe many yougsters don't understand how competitive MJ was, some say in this era he couldn't carry the load of the social media exposure as back then medias were less intrusive, but they really don't understand that MJ would feed on that and he would thrive even more as his only goal was to play better than anyone expected for him to play, so having every single day social medias trying to thrash you and say you're not as good, would be a huge challange for him, would be like a drop of water during a day's walk in the desert or as a log in the fire.

Let's try a few examples to see what kind of grief he would get today. When his first child was born, he asked the press to not report it, because he wasn't married to the woman. In his career, he had five paternity lawsuit claims from five different women. Not covered.

Kobe had 115 points in back to back games during the 06-07 season. It was the first two games of the 4 straight 50 plus point game streak. People forget, the Lakers were on a 7 game losing streak leading up to this historic streak by Kobe. He took it upon himself to start winning again!
Yeah very impressive. However, that was a prime Kobe who was still in his 20s early 30s playing against people in his age range. MJ was 40 years old banged up dropping 96pts on some 20+ and 30+ year olds. The difference is significant.

He’s also the only player to be selected to the All-Defense First Team, Win the scoring title, win the MVP, and the Finals MVP all in one season - he also accomplished that feat 4 times. In three seasons (95-96, 96-97, 97-98) he never missed a single game. He’s the only player to play 82 games in three different decades and has more 82 game seasons played than Curry, LeBron, and Durant - combined. The fact that his field goal percentage is only half a percentage point better than Jordan, is not a good look. And LeBron has to rest on defense, in order to maintain his offensive efficiency. He hasn’t played real defense on a consistent basis since at least 2015. And unlike Jordan, LeBron - at 6’9 - NEVER in his 21 season has recorded 100 blocked shots in a single season. Jordan did it twice despite being 4 inches shorter. I can keep going.

But if we take away OT, MJ still had 61pts, 16 rebounds & 6 assists and the Bulls only won by 4 while the Lakers won by 18. MJ got the clutch rebound and hit clutch FTs.

Here's another aspect that I really don't hear anybody bring up about MJ. After leaving the Bulls, If winning another championship was really that important to MJ he would have picked a more talented title contending team, the fact that he still had the skill set to play at a MVP caliber level but chose the Wizards!? And the fact he cared if Coach Collins still thought he could play and factor his age and with all that he had already accomplished, he still got in the gym worked out all night, no sleep and killed two teams in back to back... C'mon man! I Love Kobe and LeBron but that right there is God level. I more than anything admired MJ's tough mentality and killer instincts. I Know for a fact if it was still about championships and rings MJ would have had more even in his 40's
