How many of you’ve been screwed over with payments?!✋🏻
Always value your time. Never work for free and never work without payment. BEST lesson learned in the creative biz. Our time is valuable!
Thanks for dropping your opinion!👍🏻
Gordon Ly What do you think of that monitor for editing? Looks dope
The ultrawide monitor is dope! So much space. It’s not 5K but it gets the job done for me and I’m super stoked with it
Super useful and solid advice Gordon!
coming from the legend himself - thanks boss!
Thank you!
You’re welcome!
Dope as always!
Appreciate you!
Great vid!! Super helpful!! 🙌 Would love to hear more about how you price your work and possibly draw up contracts.
yo danny - i can definitely cover this topic.😎
Great video as always! We’re also collecting 50% upfront and the rest is due the day off the shoot. I had clients that wanted to pay the remaining balance upon delivery and at the beginning I agreed to that and they tried to screw me over and over. Now I don’t move a finger before the first 50% arrive in my bank account. I also agree that it just feels better getting paid twice instead getting the full amount upfront. It motivates me more for some reason!
Andreas Viker agree with all this homie! Yeah they ‘think’ they have some leverage on you with making revisions and extra shit before paying. Haha glad you feel the same way!
Solid advice! I recently started requesting 50% up front. It keeps my clients from bailing out and it guarantees food on the table.
100%. that's the way to do it!
Good Stuff!!! I'm definitely going with the 50% upfront!! Thanks for sharing!!
Of course! Yeah you’ll never want to go back to not doing that 😅🙏🏻
Great tip Gordon! I find that the one advantage of getting paid after the deliverable is that I do get more tip. Of course that only works on very reliable clients and jobs you can wow people on. Other than that, clients and I like the 50/50 method. 👍👍
That’s awesome bro! Wish people tipped in AZ 😂. Never came across that situation other than weddings.
Is your 50% up front payment non-refundable under any circumstances? Say you've taken a client who wants a shoot in 2 months time, they pay 50% up front but 2 weeks later they come back and say "hey we need to cancel". At this stage you've done no pre-production because you've still got 6 weeks until the shoot date. Are you still saying no refunds although you haven't done any work? Or would you refund a percentage of that 50%? Curious to hear your stance :) keep up the great vids
Yo Rhys - yeah I hear you. Each situation will be different. I could offer to reschedule the client at no cost if I wanted to and had another date available. Or if it were extreme circumstances and they NEEDED to cancel, I may possibly refund them. But for the most part, no. I spent time meeting with the client (calls/ in person), time to do contracts & invoices, and may have done some pre-production already. But the biggest factor is that I already secured that time/date for this client. That means that I may have missed out on another potential client that wanted that specific date as well. That's why I like to make sure the client is 100% on board before the send over the initial payment. Hope this helps!
Gordon Ly this definitely helps, awesome question awesome response. Thank you thank you thank you
LET'S GO! Give me my money! haha
Great tips, man!
Thanks josh - not trying to hunt them down for the 💰!!
@@GordonLy I'm still learning how to price from the video side of things. I understand an hourly rate as base, but I'm sure there's more to it.
Yeah there’s so many factors that go into pricing each video for each client. They all vary slightly. You’ll get the hang of it! I can create a video on this too 🔥
@@GordonLy That'll be awesome, man!
Let’s get it!🙏🏻
It would be super helpful if you do a video of how a freelancer should do a contract ✌️💯🤘
Yeah I’ll add it to the list David!
