- Custom motorcycle trailer built by my dad for easy ground level loading of bikes… no need for any ramps, and can easily load and strap bike when you are alone without the need for any extra hands… doesn’t get any easier than this to tow your bike places.
Amazing trailer!
Thanks! And thanks for watching! It sure makes it much easier when loading the trailer solo.
Great design..
Thanks man… my dad is certainly a jack of all trades
First off, THAT CYCLE!!! 😍🥰. im 5'1", so im stuck with the kawasaki zx4rr😂........badass trailer, but too much work just to get it off. a simple pull-"Ouut" (you midwestern people)😉 ramp, hidden underneath would do too. for 1 cycle, this is overkill, and with no side rails.....eeek. but i do like the idea. 😊
Sounds like you have a nice bike as well. I would totally love to have the zx4rr as an extra bike for track days on a small track.
Very nice trailer but unusual in that you have torsion stub axles. What a concept to have a clear drop for the platform. Can you give some details in another video?
Hey, thanks for the kind words and for watching. This is my dad’s trailer… assuming I borrow it again next summer, I’ll try to get another more detailed video out together. It certainly does attract a lot of attention.
Nice, if you can share the details of this trailer would be nice. Thanks to you and your dad...
Sorry for the late reply... I don't have anything to share right now, although my dad is working to make another trailer (maybe 3 more), so whenever I see them, or get to use his first one again, I'll plan to take a more detailed video. Hoping to borrow it again in the next month or so to get back out to the race track.
This is a great trailer among all you great videos!..Can you/do you haul the VW Beetle on this trailer?…I noticed the flat platforms on either side of the center section!..Just great!
It’s funny that you ask that… I asked my dad back when he built it (this is his trailer) if a beetle would fit as he has several VW’s as well. He doesn’t this so, and I’m pretty sure I agree as the post for the winch is in the way. I think our dune buggy’s would fit though as they are 14” shorter in length. You could easily cut the winch post off though and make it a removable slip in design, like a hitch receiver. Although, we have always just towed around our VW’s using a tow bar that bolts onto the front beam… very simple to tow these old VW’s.
Do you have the plans? Great build!
Thanks, I think my dad did awesome on this. Unfortunately I don’t have any of the plans.
Hi, super trailer, how did you manage the suspension system
Hey, great question! My dad built this trailer and used the independent torsion axles on each side. Here is a link to the exact ones that he used…. www.princessauto.com/en/equalizer-torsion-axle-ends/product/PA1000000369
I’ve seen other people build similar trailers, but with out any suspension at all.
Lots of designs out there where you don't have to disconnect from tow vehicle. Deal breaker.
Yeah, I seen a video of one the other day actually like that. Definitely more convenient to use than this one, although disconnecting from the hitch only takes a few extra seconds. I still think it’s pretty cool that my dad (retired) built this in his backyard, basically just to keep himself occupied.
Sooooo the trailer has ZERO suspension???
Yep, has suspension… uses individual torsion axles on each side… here’s a link to the ones used: www.princessauto.com/en/equalizer-torsion-axle-ends/product/PA1000000369
What did you use to mount your wheels without the axle
They are torsion axles. Check out my last video on this trailer (czcams.com/video/JFOn7KdmH80/video.html) for details on that.
Pitbull TRS
Definitely! My dad built this trailer for his cruiser, but I ended up borrowing it a few times for some track days last year… easier than using the ramp into the back of my truck (that’s a pain in the ass when solo). A few other guys also suggested the pitbull… my dad is planning to build a second (but same) trailer… will definitely need to pick up the pitbull system myself for that one
@@JMKGarage Hi average 25 track weekends a year all over the country last year I put 50,000 miles on my truck and trailer for track weekends alone
@@JMKGarage Suggest you put a rock guard upfront inside toolboxes for fuel cans in your track gear and also you can put airline track for EZ Up, tires etc
@@joemeyer2726 good idea… thanks! Planning to do much more track days this year. I have designated totes and a pretty comprehensive checklist for track days, but anything extra to be more organized and prepared will certainly be of value
Dont suppose you have the plans/drawing for it do you
I don’t, but my dad has his sketches on a note pad. I think he wants to get them to me draw up on AutoCAD
@@JMKGarage I would also be interested in plans. This is exactly what I have been thinking of making, and learning from your (and your dad's) experience would be a huge help. Thanks!
@@r.johnlye3298 sorry, but all he basically had were sketches on a notepad. He’s partway through making another one for me, so once he’s finished I can put together a better video.
It has been about a year since I first suggested a followup about drawings. For me, some basics of the geometry would suffice and just a smapshot of basic measurements on paper and a material list. I already have the torsion axles, I know that from the video - have a sharp eye for details. Please?
Hey, my apologies… I was hoping to have something by now, but life has been hectic and haven’t gotten my hands back on the trailer for long enough to take measurements or film anymore detail yet. Hopefully this coming summer as I hope to get opportunity to use it again for another track day.
I've been thinking of building a trailer just like this. Did you get anywhere with the AutoCAD drawings? If not I would be happy to do them for you. I'm in London, Ontario. If you're not ready to do the drawings yet, would you consider sharing the dimensions of; the frame, the platform the bike sits on, length of the tongue? Did you and your dad use steel or aluminum? what size was the tubing 2x4? wall thickness?. Would your dad consider building one to sell? $? Thanks for making/sharing the video.
Unfortunately I haven’t got around ti making any CAD drawings yet. Doing them won’t take long, it’s just getting all the measurements taken and noted down. My dad built it out of steel, I think mostly 2” x 3” tubing. It’s stored away now, so not sure when I’ll get opportunity to get my hands on it next. He had started working to build another, which he may sell, but he’s got so many other projects on the go I honestly have no idea when he will get around the finishing it. He likes to bite off more than he has time to chew, if you know what I mean… a lot of vehicles that are mid-way through restoring, and now working on his shop to make room to get more projects inside.
I am also near London btw.
