Mahalo for this! I actually have an 8th-gen iPad that can run that iPadOS 18 calculator...at long last. Now. I'm REALLY looking forward to downloading the update!
Question: Every reviewer says you can place the apps "anywhere you want" but I ALWAYS see them align the apps to the bottom, top, left, or right.
Is it possible to, I don't know, have a page with a single app smack dab in the middle of the page? Is it truly "place apps anywhere you want"? Because the amount of reviewers I'm watching only sliding apps over to align to the sides or top/bottom concerns me.
now my m4 ipad can use its full potential to change the app icon colors

I'm a Samsung Tab S9 user but have an iPad Mini. I can't believe there is no WhatsApp app for the Mini. As for many of these features, my Samsung devices have had them for years.

I know you can create a shortcut to turn off Wi-Fi or Bluetooth in the control center. It’s just I thought after this many years you could do it without having to create a shortcut. Thanks for the iPad review.

Modern iPads are very powerful, but their power is useless with iPadOS.
I agree the chipset is, but depends on your workload and what type of computing you do. It’s the best light work machine I ever used!

it is not like apple can't make ipadOS close to macOS; they just won't so that there is differentiation between macs and ipads, this way they can sell both
I was wondering what was the major improvements from the previous version apart from the customization
Not sure about IpadOS but I uninstalled 18 Beta from my 15 Pro….at first I didn’t really see any bugs at all but then I happened to check the storage on my phone a couple days in and it was using 77gb of system data. Apparently it’s piling up cache and all that in the background. I got some storage back after restarting but it quickly used the storage again….so keep an eye on your storage if trying the Beta. If your storage maxes out in the background it’ll jack your phone up

So since iPad Air doesn’t have face ID it can’t hide and lock apps?
I just want 3 things;
Finder comes to iPad (could even be a fun Ad)
Being able to run MacOS apps (could also be MacOS itself)
Background task monitor on the control center (so things like exporting video don’t close when you close the app)
(The snapping when using stage manager would also be welcome)
They will never put MacOS on an iPad because it would hurt sales on Mac books and iMacs. Apple doesn't want to compete against themselves in that way. If you could use an iPad the same as a Mac Book, why would you ever buy one?

I wish iPad would let us use fullscreen in an app while using the task manage with multiple apps open.
Why nobody shows the Mail app?
You forgot the feature called clean up in photos and if you can are you able to use Apple intelligence on 14 pro/pro max and 15 pro/pro max and 16 pro/pro max with the new cleanup feature in the new photos app for iOS 18
File app needs to made more stable. It often hangs and freezes in my M1 IPAD AIR

Regarding the potential "cheating" in classroom using the new math notes, how is it different to using any other scientific calculator?
Much smarter than a scientific calculator, students can literally draw out the exact problem they are being asked to solve much faster. Regulations in schools and classrooms or no phones and iPads policies might curb the potential of that though.

As an ipad mini user the fact that this is even an update in 2024 is embarrassing to say the least. This customization should have been available 10 years ago given the way Apple prices its products. Having to wait this long for a calculator app is absurd also. Nonetheless, still love my little device.

I’ve been using my daily. I’d say it’s stable enough, but it’s not stable enough for serious workflows. I would only do it if you use your iPad casually and don’t depend on it as your primary computing device. Otherwise I’d wait a couple more betas for polish

I defintely don't expect them to introduce anything like Desk mode because they want you to buy Macbooks. But I was hoping they add some more features to stage manager.

The apple calculator now looks like the google calculator because you have calculation history and it shows your calculations when calculating
You can turn off Bluetooth and WiFi you don’t have to go into settings
I never saw Samsung with that feature in the calculator

They don’t want to cannibalise the MacBook by giving iPad more computer like features. I personally don’t fancy desktops or notebooks so I use my Samsung tablet as a “computing” device, and I truly believe that tablets can potentially replace all other forms of computers if the companies and the costumers wanted, I personally do

iPadOS 18 is great for a $600 tablet.
Of course the hardware is a bit lacking because currently for this amount of money you should get a device with 11.5” 90Hz display, 12-14h battery life and eSIM capability.

I am disappointed with the iPad OS update. It doesn't include Finder, it lacks multitasking capabilities like macOS, it doesn't fully support external monitors with all features, and it doesn't have fully-fledged applications. Using it as a permanent computer with an external screen is a pain and suffering. They could have given us a simplified version of macOS on the iPad, but no, unfortunately. The iPad remains a big iPhone, nothing more. The iPad will remain primarily a professional CZcams and Netflix machine. ))
there is a multitasking feature thats been on the ipads for years, it will fully support that very soon. and keep in mind that this is iOS 18 beta so dont jump into conclusions
First of all if you want something like mac go buy mac. Ipad and mac is different never in the future ipad gonna be like mac.

This is really disappointing and shameful. There have been numerous opportunities for improvement in multitasking and the OS itself, with key functionalities missing for quite some time. It feels insulting to divert users' attention solely to the calculator app. It's the same cycle of teasing us with new, powerful hardware that ultimately does pretty much the same as the 2-3 previous versions. I'm frustrated and disheartened by this lack of meaningful progress and childish diversion to empty customisations… Really?
To all non apple and android user. Guys if you think apple is worst and behind. Just copy everything from android and fool us. Why every year you watch all videos and invest your time trolling apple and apple user. Simply ignore and live your life.
