- Join us in Bakewell as we hunt down 2 places that claim to be the home of the original Bakewell pudding, the predecessor to the Bakewell tart, and put them to the ultimate test.
We begin our day in Bakewell, Derbyshire with a walk by the river and the lovers lock bridge before heading in to the town centre on a quest to find the best Bakewell pudding. First of all we find Bloomers who claim to sell the original Bakewell pudding so we grab one for ourselves before hunting down the imaginatively named 'The Original Bakewell Pudding Shop' to grab one of their puddings.
We find a beautiful gardens next to the river and perform the ultimate Bakewell pudding taste test, but which one will reign victorious?

I loved Bakewell and the pudding and tart 😍
The Rutland Arms (formerly the White Horse Inn) is where the Bakewell Pudding originates from, this was in fact an accident. The cook was asked to make a strawberry tart for some important guests, by mistake she put the jam between the pastry and the egg mixture. The pudding was voted an instant hit by the distinguished guests and became a regular item on the menu by popular demand.
These puddings are now sent all over the world. Whatever you do don't ask for a Bakewell Tart, as you will be told quite curtly that 'Mr. Kipling makes Bakewell Tarts', 'we make Bakewell Puddings!'

I loved the padlocks, very romantic! It was nice to see Fiona and Sharon enjoying themselves. I have never had a Bakewell tart, when I go Into a British store I always get Eccles, my hubby and I love them. The second one did look better, looked a bit like custard which I love too!
Ooo do love an Eccles cake. The Bakewell tart has nothing on the Bakewell pudding it was delicious 😋
Hi guy's have not been to bakewell it looked so lovely, but oh my goodness that bakewell pudding looked the bee's knee's i'm sure it tasted as good as it looked.
It was amazing and I (Jason) don’t like Bakewell tarts so it was really surprising. Beautiful little town too with so many quirky little shops and cafes

Ha ha I had to laugh at the great pudding/tart experience. I don't like Bakewell Tarts with jam and almond taste, but the pudding looked nice like a custard tart and I lurve custard tarts. Could I just say I like your Mum's hair shorter. I have been waiting in vain for the expected box of treats I asked if you could slip off tour Disney Cruise. To date nothing has arrived. Is it too late to ask for a few Bakewell Puddings to be shipped here????? Take care, stay safe.
