Sorry to burst your bubble Corry, but annoyingly water and oil don‘t have the same roll in their respective paints (watercolour and oil paint). Oil is the medium as you were saying in which the pigment is suspended and is applied by thinning the paint with a solvent for better handling, whereas in watercolour the medium is traditionally gum arabic (or other) which can be solubalized with water, hence the name. Great appreciation for the paint drama though from an art conservator in training!
