      Funny you say that because in my Awakening of the Rebellion play through as the Rebels I destroyed the Arc Hammer with nothing but fighters and bombers and that ship is absolutely covered in laser cannons. I had 60 active fighter squadrons and lost four. I was stunned and honestly disappointed.

      @@starcaller6448 well its pretty accurate, starfighters are so overpowered in star wars I honestly wonder why anyone bothers with capital ships. All it takes is a couple y-wings to disable any sub-dreadnought capital ship.

      @@vanguard6498 in real life we stopped building battleships pretty much immediately after carriers were invented, though. In star wars they somehow havent gotten it through their thick skulls to stop with the battleships even thousands of years later. It would be like if today we kept building gun cruisers and dreadnoughts with machine guns for AA, even though they were just constantly getting destroyed by attack planes.

      @@lenkagamine4145 That first sentence isnt true, battleships and CVs fought in WW2 around the same time. HMS glorious was sunk by German battleship gun fire. My point is that starfighters/planes/jets are op in real life and in the star wars.

    Unlimited torpedo strikes by the bomber groups (infinite ammo) accelerated the speed of the battle, but the overall outcome is the same.

      @@DIEGhostfish well remember what 300 proton torps did to Lusankya at Thyferra-collapsed her bow shield and tore her armor up. A Torpedo Sphere can fire 500 torpedoes in a volley. It's a siege platform designed to collapse planetary shields on fortress worlds. That kind of firepower would slaughter regular ships(look what one did to Grunger's Armada) and SSDs aren't very agile to dodge or flee so ramming was likely a last ditch desperation tactic or one out of spiteful frustration in the case of Grunger.

      @@grandadmiralzaarin4962 300 was the number of targeting systems wasn't it? I'm not sure if the exact launch amounts were confirmed. Also unlike a bunch of freighters at max range, it's hard for a Torpedo Sphere to dodge return fire.

    Can you do the Battle of Bilbringi? I've listened to the Thrawn trilogy audiobooks a couple of times and still can't understand how the Empire lost, sure Thrawn was assassinated but he'd already mouse trapped the New Republic fleet and the battle should still have been an imperial win.

      @nikolasrhine3252 Před 4 lety +1

      If you read the last chapter of that battle, it becomes clear the battle is going south for Thrawn, while he is still in command, and even if he hadn't been assassinated, the New Republic would have wiped the floor with his forces. Thrawns death changed nothing, once he died, Pellaeon immediately ordered a retreat, because the battle was already lost at that point. Thrawn lost, had his fleet wiped out in his own trap. Bilbringi was a second Endor. All of Thrawns numbers advantages and mind games failed when faced with an experienced enemy backed against the wall, same as what happened at Endor. The reason for that, imo, is one of the first sentences in the entire trilogy: Pallaeon standing on the Chimaera's bridge and realizing that the entire crew is trained conscripts with no experience. The Empire has no capable commanders, no more veterans, only recruits fresh out of the academy, and when push came to shove against experienced New Republic Veterans, they panicked and choked. Bilbringi would have been the end of Thrawn's campaign one way or another, even if he hadn't been killed.
