  • Let me tell you about my 20-gallon long Amano Shrimp tank because it's been quite the journey. When I first set it up, I decided to take a hands-off approach for four weeks. During this time, I witnessed the tank finding its balance, with algae forming on the Dragon Stone and glass, which would provide nourishment for my shrimp, and I even witnessed the emergence of new life, like this adorable baby Ramshorn Snail with its visible heartbeat. Now that’s truly incredible!
After this period of observation, I introduced a diverse group of Amano Shrimp: 4 Japanese Amanos, which many of us are familiar with, as well as 4 Snow Amanos, 4 Orange Amanos, and 4 Australian Amanos, shrimp I've never kept before. To add to the ecosystem, I included Neon Tetras as tank mates. Now, nearly two months later, all the inhabitants, including the plants are not just surviving but thriving. I’m truly surprised that nothing has gone wrong.
I'm excited to see how this tank will continue to evolve and this is where you come in. Let me know in the comments if I should add Yellow Goldenback Shrimp to this tank. Also, don’t forget to subscribe for more shrimp related content.

Should I add Yellow Goldenback Neocaridina Shrimp to this tank? Yes or No...

I should quit writing books. Especially at 3 am when I have no clue what I'm writing, or if it's even correct.

Wow what an amazing tank! I think the yellow shrimp would pop but it’s honestly up to you! I wish you luck!

Is there enough algae go support more grazing shrimp? You can always add algae wafers, but if you do that, you are taking the chance that you will be throwing the tank out of balance. Not taking into consideration how much your filter takes out of the water, would one or to fan filter feeding shrimp be a better choice? That's not necessarily the case. But you do have snails in addition to Amanos already working on the algae.
In the end, it comes down to what you want. Gold back yellow are a pretty shrimp, and if you think it would look good in your tank, then yes! You should definitely go for it! If you find that it's too many shrimp and snails in one tank, you can always put them in another one. You'll want one set up and cycled though if you're going to use it for an emergency overload. I know the temptation though. When I'm stocking a relatively new tank, I want to buy out the entire inventory of Dan's Fish, Imperial, and Aquahuna all at once. I want all 102 species of hillstream loach in it, and at least a dozen different kinds of shrimp to start with. Add in all the species of snails that one is allowed to keep, and I'm starting to think that might be enough for a twenty gallon tank. Then it's time to plant the tank so densely that you can't tell that the tank is over populated, and that they are all dying of starvation. Lesson learned.
Those gold backed yellows are very pretty though, and I don't think your tank is overstocked yet, so go for it! I don't think that Amanos and cold back can cross bread, and if you can get the gold backs to breed, then they'll pay for themselves. Do remember that neocaradina breed like mice. If you have two in there, and a little bit ov cover, you'll have sixteen jigatons of them in just a few months, and not all of them will have the gold patterning. I'm not kidding. Those things make Malaysian trumpet snails look positively sterile. The difference is that you can get rid of shrimp if you don't want them anymore. The odds of completely removing Malaysian trumpets from your thank are vanishingly small.

Shrimp primarily feast on biofilm and there's tons in the tank. As for algae, there is that as well and I also feed the tank every other day so there's always food for the fish and shrimp. I've got an Aquaclear 50 filter on the tank so filtration is not an issue as a shrimp's bio load is not that much plus there's also plants to help. The two species won't crossbreed but there's a chance I could end up with a ton of yellows.

I would totally add some yellow laser shrimp. They would look nice against the dragon stone

No add a different unique type of shrimp color since the yellows are common
