What a excellent production…my amano shrimp will look different to me now
That's awesome! That's high praise. :-)
I was saying the same thing 🤣. i had to subscribe
I don't know what's more impressive, the videography or informative narration. Thank you.
Wow, thank you! I work hard to put out the best videos that I can.
So basically each time I add a new critter to my aquarium I’m going to find an amazing video with incredible close ups that you’ve made. Sweet.
I sure hope so! 😁
Wonderful film as usual. Best aquarium documentaries on the planet.
I use my Amano shrimp as a cleaning station. When driftwood gets too much algae on it in another tank, I move it to their tank and they all jump on it and feed off of it until it is clean. I also keep my tank (15g) at room temp, so 67-75... maybe that's why they're 4 years old and going strong. They do love to fight over pellets. They're only tankmates are ramshorn snails.
I use them in a similar way. Such a great cleanup crew.
Really its a complete video about amano shrimp. In my small planted tanknto get rid of algea, initially i kept horn nerite snails but three different varieties of cory doras i thiknk kill or ate them. As i noticed no movement after second time introduction of hirn nerite snails. So now thinking about keeing amano shrimp so that they do their work in cleaning algae from rocks and leafs while peacefully stay with my tank other mates like corydoras, hill stream lloach and guppies. I shall try with amano shrimp as you said its best for beginners and hardy as well. I have heard that keeping shrimp means need to maintain many things in tank but now after watching this video, i am feeling confident to keep 8-10 amano shrimp. Thanks for such detail video, covering all necessary points. I am impressed with the videography.
Thanks for watching the video. Amano shrimp do a great job eating many types of algae, the Nerite snails do most of their work on algae that grows on the glass. I highly recommend them.
Good lord getting this wonderful footage must have been a true labor of love
Yes, all of my films are labor / time intensive, but I really do love making them. Thanks for watching. :-D
This voice was wildly soothing 😌
Thank you. 😌
I absolutely loved it. looking for an everyday aquarium keeping video....this is more like a nature documentary and yet, all the practical tips are in there. Impressive footage too. I wanted Amanos just for cleaning, now I love them. Can't wait to get mines.
Thanks for watching the video and taking the time to leave a comment. Best of luck with your new shrimp. 😊
Amazing photography, I have good vision but have never seen the Amano shrimp in such detail.
Thank you so much. I have more! :-D
Had a group live for 4-5 years. Very impressive how well they do in planted tanks.
That's awesome! They really are helpful in planted tanks.
Got three of them in my endlerXwild guppy tank.
One female, two males.
Absutely love them
I love them too. They do an amazing job keeping hair algae under control.
I'm liking the more frequent uploads, your content is so great!
Glad you enjoy it!
Love the high quality and zoomed in shots. Love the way you've captured their movements in high-def.
Thank you so much.
Absolutely stunning footage WOW Nowhere else have I ever seen aquarium shrimp so close ! Great info and very complete guide too, they all say they're hard to breed but never that they're so hard even breeder have a hard time and the ones sold are mostly wild caught.
Wow, thank you! I have lots more high quality videos. 😁
You shoot some incredible macro video. Awesome presentation.
Thank you very much. I'm just getting started. :-D

This video was so well put together! Thank you for sharing!
You are so welcome!
Thank you! I just picked up some Amano today and am already fascinated
Awesome! Enjoy the new shrimp.
Thanks for another great video, the close-ups are amazing! I keep Cherries, Amanos and Bamboo shrimp; the Amano's are definitely the most aggressive with food. I'd be very interested to see some macro shots of the Bamboo's fans in action!
Thanks for checking out the video. I have some footage of Bamboo shrimp, but I might need more! I tend to be a bit of a perfectionist. :-)
Thanks for the video Dave.
You bet
What a great video, very informative mate, cheers
Thank you so much. 😁
My favorite video about amano shrimps on youtube so far! I have different amanos in my aquarium (amano, amano snow & amano orange) and i love them... fascinating little creatures.❤
Awesome, thank you! Shrimp are fascinating in so many ways. Incredibly complex little creatures. 🦐🦐🦐
Good show~ I'm so glad I spent time here learning about Amano shrimp with you.
Thank you for being here, and for taking the time to leave a comment.
Of all the shrimp you have, the cherry shrimp are my favorite. Because they are strikingly beautiful and they kinda look like northern prawns or pandalus borealis! ❤🦐🦐🦐🦐
I love freshwater shrimp, and I wish I did more with them. ❤
Love this video! When I was getting a tank for my Japanese rice fish, I asked for a snail to keep my tank clean, and the shopkeeper asked if I would like a shrimp too. Only after getting it I realized how fun this little amano shrimp was to observe and I started to do some more research into making conditions for it better, so thank you for this video! They are really interesting animals, aren't they? :)
Amano shrimp really are amazing little animals, and they do a much better job helping keep the tank clean. How are the Japanese Rice fish doing? They're pretty awesome too!
Excellent video full of useful info. Close up footage is fantastic well done Dave!
Many thanks!

Love your voiced videos. You have a very chill voice that fits these documentaries well. I don't keep Amano shrimp but I do keep Cherries and they are fascinating to watch.
Thank you very much!
Your videography is the best I've ever seen. I seriously wish I had the equipment to get footage like this.

Thank you so much. Greetings from Massachusetts 🦐🦠 ❤🐠🦈🐟
Very nice video of the Shrimps.
Thank you
Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it
Love this.... I have only one amano, and right he always hiding. The minute I add another 6 in incubatory box inside aquarium, that one amano get out from hiding as if it hears the sounds of other amanos.. Beautiful creatures..... Nice documentary btw, subscribed...
Thanks for watching the video and subscribing. I really appreciate it. Yes, Amano shrimp do enjoy the company of their brothers and sisters.
I found 3 of my 5 shrimp living in my eheim filter... two were in the bottom before the first media tray but one was actually in the middle tray! All seemed well and were returned to the tank, and I now have a foam sleeve or the intake.
Good thinking! They love moving water and tend to follow it when they can.
Very in-depth video totally appreciate 🦐💕🦐
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! ❤ Dave64
Agree lighting is a killer for plants too if you have natural light on tank and then a tank light it burns them
In my setup
Natrual light as soon as open blind in morning
And aquasky takes over from 3.30pm to 8:30pm. In summer months aquasky need is reduced even futher as natrual light is on tank longer
My shrimp are quite happy to appear in day as my tank has minnows and they are peaceful fish
It sounds like you have a great setup. I really think that natural light, in moderation, is good for all living things.
Great footage!!
Thank you very much!
Another excellent, interesting and very informative video. Many thanks 🤓✌️
You're very welcome. I was a fun one to put together. Fascinating creatures.
Cheers this was very good

Nice story telling ☺️👍👍

Amazing video!!!
Thank you!!
Whoo Hoo, been waiting!
Great video🍤
Thanks. . . Cool creatures
Great info!
Thank you!
Your imaging quality is spectacular, and lets us see so much more clearly the distinct attributes of a species. I have always been fascinated by shrimp, lobster and crayfish, they are always so busy. Actually watching the way they pick up food with those legs was interesting and beautiful, I hadn’t realized how precise they can be with all of their legs. Being able to look inside their bodies while they go about their regular activities is a special bonus. I loved the way your opening shot made the shrimp seem to be narrating. The tank is beautiful, and your camerawork and editing brilliant. You give clear and useful directions for those who want to try keeping them, and I know it must give extra confidence to a beginner. Thank you Dave, for always providing quality content, and just for being you.🖤🇨🇦
Mother nature sure does some beautiful work.

Great video

Another amazing video 👀👍🏽🐱
Thank you so much 😀
best close ups
One very informational video! I enjoyed it, and this video provided me with all of the info I needed to take care of my amanos 🙂
Now fast forward to today, I have a colony of 6 amanos in a community tank with a betta and some MTS and other snails and I enjoy watching the amanos feed on the food that my betta avoids haha
They've been growing, and I think soon enough they'll reach maturity. Might try my hand with raising amano fry. From my understanding, the mortality rate in the wild is 90% and probably a bit higher in captivity. I'd think it'd be worth it, though, if it adds a couple of amanos to my population.
You can try to breed Amanos, and I don't want to discourage you, but it's very difficult to do and I don't feel that it's worth the effort. If you haven't breed cherry shrimp, then I highly advise that you do that instead. 😁
Very excellent video
Many many thanks
damn im stoked this is gonna be good
that was great dave. did u study fish in school?
Yes, Fisheries conservation and biology. I've been a nature lover since I was a little kid. Started with reptiles, then went to water and fish.
Wasn’t that a lovely and informative video 😊, thank you The Dave !

This is very great advice to keep Amano shrimp i should get some
Yes you should!
@@TheDave333 thank you this is a good idea
I love your content!
Thank you. I love what I do!
Awesome work! I may have to pick some of these up to mingle with my cherries some time!
Great for helping with algae.
I subscribed after watching 2 mins of your video.
Thank you. I really appreciate that!
Wow ultra nice video
Thanks! I love making them. 😃
Very nice!!!
Thanks!!
Thank you for a very useful video! I bought five amanos a month ago. The next morning (after I introduced them to my bigger tank) I found one of the females on a carpet about 10 meters away from the tank😢 The rest four shrimps were hiding behind a filter sponge for a week. Now they forage freely on the bottom of the tank and sleep in java fern. Luckily, non of them ever tried to escape thereafter. They behave like they own this tank now😁
Thanks for watching the video! The Amanos can be a little pushy, as well as adventurous! Love your yellow corbicula video by the way.
@@TheDave333 thank you!😊
My pleasure . . .
What gears do u use to capture this macro footage ?
Its just look so AMAZING!🤩
Thanks for watching the video. There's a link to the same camera in the description section. I also use several macro lenses that have been specially modified to fit the camera. 🤩
@The Dave, I love your high quality, high resolution videos. Thank you so much for sharing and keep it up!
Thanks, will do!
Super informative xxx
Thank you :-)
Awesome
thanks !
excellent!!
Thank you! Cheers!
This was wonderful. The footage was amazing to watch.
With some improvement to the script writing and voiceover this will rival David Attenborough documentaries. (This is meant as a massive compliment.)
Wow, thank you!
Mighty-fine shrimp you got there!
Thank you, he's small, but effective.
Wonderful video!!!! As all videos you made and hope will do! My 5 cents: i bred them, but it's a lot of labor ;-(
It does seem like a lot of trouble. Thanks for watching my videos. 💜
Did you breed it successfully? I tried many many times and fail every time. I did not do enough research to know the picking out more mature babies into the freshwater. As always this video is amazing! Please have one more episode about how to transfer them from slat water to fresh. It does not need to be Amano shrimp. I am very curious about how to make it happen in the home aquarium.
I did not bother to raise the young. . .
To change the water = Remove half of the water, then use airline tubing and an airline valve to control the drip rate of the different water ( salt or fresh ). Fill the tank. Then, do it again and again until the water is either completely fresh or salt. Gradual changes work best. it's the feeding and keeping the water clean that's the hard part.
Fascinating 🦐! Due to watching your video I may feel like l'm descending beneath water surface into shrimp kingdom 🦐🦐.
Actually l research now what shrimp species would be best for my guppies and think about adding some or one to lonely Gustav the Ancistrus. However I'm reluctant to last idea, Gustav is quite strange.
I would use cherry shrimp with Gustav. Get them to breed = make more shrimp. Amano shrimp help with algae, but their babies won't survive.
Thank you, cherry shrimp are funny I like them. Indeed, Amano is bad choice for Gustav - if they come from wild risk of carrying disease to him is high. Gustav is specific because he knew only his family friends, only six plecos in their little world. They passed away one after one (genetic!) . Last lady pleco leave this world about half year ago, Gustav still search her, mourning her. I am surprised how long memory they have and how strongly they were bounded to each other. I don't know how Gustav can react for another living creature. Every pleco had/have different personalities.
Except above, his aquarium is open , never was there anything as a lid.
But l will introduce cherry or filtering shrimp to guppies.
Gustav's story sounds so sad. He's all alone. . . He misses his friends. He needs a lady friend, so you can make some baby Gustavs!!! 😊
Oh, yes it's sad. I decided to leave Gustav alone. He really can react very nervous and his mood may worsen. Babies in his cases is bad idea because he is from inbred, he may carry bad genes - his mother and her sister both died due renal failure. His brother was deformed. I only wish Gustav long happy healthy life.
Shrimp I will buy next month and add to guppies.
i love it❤️
This was really helpful, thank you! I’m planning to keep some shrimp soon and is it necessary to test pH/KH/GH?If so I’m not entirely sure where I can find testing strips. And also can I use an actual (elec) filter instead of a sponge? Will they get ‘sucked in’ by it? (I’m fairly new to keeping fish/shrimp, so any other tips please share! :) )
@Dorothy Summer
Hello and thanks for watching the video. The most important thing is that the tank and filter are fully mature, or "cycled". Sponge filters are easiest in the long run, but any other mature filter system will work. Just be sure to put an intake sponge filter over the filter intake, so it doesn't suck up the babies.
Helpful advice. . .
Take your time, use live plants and sand, resist the urge to over-feed, keep things simple, resist the urge to keep adding new creatures to the tank. Aquarium coop has a great deal on test strips, and you can find them online. . . . Learn as much as you can about the fish/shrimp before you buy. Watching lots of my videos will certainly help. 🙂🙂🙂
