    I use plankton for food, has a mini bubble filter and i kept the light on 24/7 for the algae. Water is nice, warm and green meaning there is food supply.
    Not sure if too much light or something else causing them not to survive.

    How would you go about adapting all this for bamboo shrimp? Me and my girlfriend had a welcome surprise when we were acclimating our new purchases the other day and we're currently in the process of trying to rescue the zoe, but we're kind of having to make it all up as we go along as we weren't prepared for it. One thing I'm really unsure about is how quickly we should acclimate them between brackish and back? Should it take all day or can it be done in a few hours?

      @Pinhastubes Před 4 lety +2

      Hi!!! I don't know much about bamboo shrimp, but I believe that to acclimate them from brackish water to freshwater it will be the same process, you can change 30% of the water for freshwater every 10 minutes until the water is completely freshwater, and then don't forget to acclimate again to the water of the tank that you want to put the bamboo shrimp!!! I hope this will help you.

      Hi, thanks for your message!! I don't use any heater because my water is always above 25C°. Don't use any filter, green alge and diatoms will work as a filter consuming the nitrates and phosphate. I use a straw connected to the clear pipe that is connected to your air pump instead of a air stone, because the air stone makes very little air bubbles which kills the zoes, and the straw makes bigger air bubbles which is fine for the zoes, just make three bubbles per second.
      Keep the good work and you will succeed.

For the other glasses you really don't need a heater, because those classes are to aclimate the baby amanos to fresh water and to the new tank. That you can do it in 30 minutes with the water from the tank where they are going to that is already heated!!! In theory the amano shrimp can go straight to fresh water, the problem is the PH, that is why you need thoes 30 minutes adding in the glasse where they/he are/is small quantities of the water every 5 minutes from the tank that they are going to. I may be mistaken that you didn't have a brighter light on because you were filming however, in my experience breeding amano shrimp for 5 years now my yields were always massively increased when the light was brighter and 8000K plus.
    Salinity for me has worked between 26ppt and 35ppt. Better at 26. Temperature has never been an issue as always at a stable 22c. Aeration is always a good idea. Filtration is pretty pointless.... the algae growing should consume any nitrite, nitrate or ammonia. This is where I believe the strong light accelerates the natural filtration process.

    If you see this, any advice for getting enough food for the zoes? I had amano zoes hatch recently and tried to raise them in a small aquarium. I did a sponge filter, though, and had a desk light with a CFL bulb on 24/7 and I had zero algae growth in over two weeks until I bought some live rock to put in there, then I got SOME algae growth, but mostly on the bottom of the tank, some on the sides. I tried to feed with phytoplankton and ground up spirulina flakes but all of the zoes died. Also, what temperature do you keep them at? I was using a heater, but not sure if I should. I also hear so much mixed information about whether to do pure saltwater or almost pure (like 34ppt salinity) or do what you recommend, with the water being more brackish. Basically, I'm just hoping I can get some to survive next time, the same female has eggs once again and I'm still running the little tank with the light on 24/7. But definitely no green water like that. Is that because of the sponge filter? Anyway thanks.

      Thanks for you nice message!!!
      If I was you I would take out the filter, it is really not necessary any kind of filtration for the all process, filtration just reduce the alge growth and makes water circulation that is to strong for the little zoes. If your water is above 20C° you don't need the heater also. Don't bother with food for them, we always worried about food, but you must remember if you have any green alge on the walls and bottom that means that you have algae spores in you water and that is exactly what they need for food. I also read different things about salinity, full salinity, half salinity, i respect all the theory's, but what workes best for me is around 23ppm. Apparently there is different kind of amanos shrimps that do better in different salinitys, I am talking about raising the zoes ofcourse, you just need to figure out what works better for you. @@Pinhastubes Hey, I just wanted to thank you for the great advice! As soon as I removed the sponge filter I did start to grow a lot more algae. Now I have quite a lot going in the tank. However, I just wanted to ask for your opinion on my most recent attempt. Just about five days ago now I got another batch of zoes, and I put them into the tank, feeling much more comfortable because I have lots of algae. Salinity was around 30-32ppt because I thought I would try just a little lower than last time first (and will think about going even lower next time.) However, my zoes didn't last nearly as long as last time (about two weeks last time, even though I had no visible algae), and have all disappeared now. But, interestingly, I have noticed that I not only have quite a few copapods living in the tank, but also some strange tiny creatures that look somewhat like jellyfish and have two long tentacles. They swim around the tank, though, rather than sitting in place like I would expect hydra to. I started to remove them when I noticed, but my zoes all still died. So I am now wondering if these creatures are predators that may have eaten up my zoes. In any case, it's strange to me that they all died so quickly this time, when there was far more food, and the salinity wasn't bad enough that I would think it would kill them. It's such a challenge to figure this out.

    • @Pinhastubes
      @Pinhastubes Před 3 lety +3

      @@v.4549 I am very happy for you. That is the way, you must try different salinitys and strategies to figure out which suits you best. I did exactly the same, I had more fails then successes, and I kept trying until I discovered the best strategy for me, even now there is some batches that fail completely. For me when they die very soon it is because the pregnant amano release the zoes to early by stress or diferent water parameters, you can only put the pregnant amano in the breeding tank when you see the black dots on the eggs, that means that the zoes are ready to hatch. About those creatures, are you sure it is not algae? It is a life creature? If yes i am not happy then, I never had nothing alive besides the zoes in my breeding tank, I would start from zero again. Keep the good work and you will succeed.

      @Pinhastubes Před 3 lety +1

      Howzit!!! You must remember, you must maintain water salinity at the whole process. So once the bucket is full to the line with sea water, from that point you will never introduce sea water again, from that point just add fresh water and when the water from the bucket evaporate, if the water evaporate 3 millimetre you add 3 millimetre of fresh water to the line again. You must remember when water evaporate is just the H2O that evaporates not the salt, that is why you add just fresh water to maintain salinity. When you add water you can put spirulina to that water to help feeding the zoes but little very little. Green water will come with 24 hours of light. I never change buckets. What you see there is different buckets in different stages so I can make the video in less days, otherwise I would need 45 days at least to make the video. Never change the bucket you will kill the zoes they are very weak, the less you touch that bucket the better. Cheers.

      Hi!!
      Nothing, that is why you have lights on 24/7, to produce green water and diatoms. This is the food for them. Anything else you put in the water will rot and kill the zoes!!! Remember you have no filter to filter the water, so that water is very sensitive.

    • @Pinhastubes

      Hi Alina. I hope everything is good with you. Thanks for your question. Sea water or water with sea salt doesn't matter. As you know sea water is 35000ppm. And for me the ppms with more results is 24000. So 1/3 tank water and 2/3 "salt water", other sea water or fresh water mixed with sea salt, just increase salinity slowly.
      For green water, just use spirulina powder, it works wonderful. See the video carefully, everything is in this video. Keep trying you will succeed. Keep well.

      If the water is cloudy, that is very good, it means there is nutrients in the water to feed the zoes. I don't use any filter, not sponges, nothing, just air bubbles, one big bubble every 1/2 second, not the small ones, the small bubbles bring the zoes to the surface and kill them.

      Thanks for the reply..
      I have little zoeas now in fresh water.
      Three questions..
      1. Just for my knowledge.. What is the scientific reason why the zoeas die in fresh or low brackish water? Do they need a kind of salt-shock to activate the next step transformation? Or what else? Just brainstorming..
      2. What is the best way to aclimate the zoeas to the salt seawater or can they go directly in the seawater?
      3. When I put some of the zoeas in the brackish water they die in less than an hour.. 😞
      Temperature is 27 degrees Celsius, is green water a must in this stage? Are there other key parameters that are highly recommended? I assumed they need no food yet..
      I have bought atyopsis shrimp food (by Dennerle), at what moment this is suitable?
      Besides all, I am enjoying the attempt, but it is getting a bit frustrating when you see the zoeas die..
      I have more females carrying eggs, so more attempts will follow 😄😄😎👍

    • @Pinhastubes
      @Pinhastubes Před 3 lety +1

      @Seth de Boer according to my knowledge, I must say I am not a amano scientist 😉, in nature the zoes are hatched in fresh water up the rivers, and they are so small that they go with the stream to the sea, and then they stay there until metamorphosis to small amano shrimps. At this stage they will swim back to the river because soon they will not tolerate salt water anymore. That is how it works and you must cimulate this process.
      Now what I understand from your process is, you take the zoes from the fresh water and introduce them in to brackish water, don't do this. After they hatched you take the mother out from the bucket and start to increase slowly the salinity(less then 12 hours to the final salinity level) of the bucket where the zoes were hatched until desaire salinity level. You must remember you must aclimate the mother to the new water otherwise she will die also.
      They don't need any kind of shock.
      They don't need any kind of food for the whole process, besides green water.
      Be persistent, you will succeed. Cheers.

    Hi, awesome video!! This is my first time keeping amano shrimp. I have a 29 gallon tall tank with soil covered with sand. The tank has pothos in the hang on the back filter, aponogeton mainly, and now I have a mini lotus seed sprouting in a net that I have hanging so the seed isn’t too far from the surface. I’m going to get some floating plants soon. There are 9 amano shrimp and two nerite snails. I was planning on getting some neon tetras and then eventually some hatchet fish. Today I noticed all the shrimp swimming around and at first was worried until I seen that they were chasing the biggest one around and then mounted on top of it. After doing some more research I found out that was the mating process and am now not sure what to do. I don’t really have money to buy the correct equipment at the moment for the breeding process. If I were to cover the intake of my current filter with a fine mesh or something would the other shrimp in the tank just eat the larvae? If not then they would die anyways?

One of mine just released them Sunday before I was able to remove her to the hatch tank, and I saw them coming out of her, but I had to head out for a few hours before I could take them out. Now, I can't find hardly any, and I'm wondering what the heck happened. I had several juvenile amano's & ghost shrimp in there and lots of snails, is it possible they were all eaten?? I'm so bewildered as to what on earth happened.... it looks like there are a lot of eggs that went down into the substrate, but the last time I had zoe's it seemed like they were swimming immediately and I was able to remove them right away..

      Ok, I will do my best to answer your question.
      Sea water salinity is 35000ppm, equivalent of 35 grams of salt for 1 litre of water.
      The salinity that works for me for the whole process is roughly 24000ppm.
      When you are acclimating the baby amano to fresh water, you don't need to know the salinity of the glass jar, you just need to change 50% of the water inside the jar for fresh water every 15 minutes until the water is fully fresh water, you need to do 5 to 6 times this process until the amano shrimp is considered acclimated.
      The water that evaporate you just need to add FRESH WATER NOT SALT WATER.
      Light 24 hours a day is to create algae and diatoms to feed the zoes.

You can try this salinity, if it works good, otherwise try a little bit more or less, you must play around. Thanks.

    How to measure salinity in ppm

    • @Pinhastubes
      @Pinhastubes Před 4 lety

      Hi Rohit!!! Actually I don't measure salinity, I just use 1/3 of fresh water and 2/3 of sea water. Sea water has 35000ppm, so if I use 1/3 of fresh water and 2/3 of sea water, the salinity in my bucket where I raise my shrimps is ruffly 23.33ppm. There is a lot of tools for marine aquariums that measure salinity in ppm, you can buy one of these and monitor your salinity.

    Boas bruno posso te adicionar no Facebook? Estou aqui com uma dúvida, fiz recentemente a primeira tentativa mas usei água salgada e, de 50 tenho uns 20 prontos para aclimatizar a água doce, já se perecem todos camarões, mas só comecei a aclimatizar os q nadam bem para a frente os outros ainda não, devo aclimatizar todos, ou esperar mais tempo para os q ainda não nadam? Na minha segunda experiência usei água a 1.016 de salinidade que é 75 salgada 25 doce, já têm 2 semanas e até agora sem baixas. Um abraço, Francisco Sousa

      Oi. Tens que ir aclimatizando à medida que vão começando a andar pra frente, como amanos adultos. Imagina que hoje começa um a andar para a frente, tiras esse e aclimatizas, pode ser que o próximo a andar pra frente seja só daqui a 2 dias, então nessa altura tiras esse e aclimatizas, esperas pelo proximo, e assim sucessivamente. Ok?

Fica bem.

      Howzit? Thanks for your message. You don't need to wait that much. When you separate the baby amano into a new glass, you just need 4 to 5 times 50% water change every 20 minutes, this water must be from the new tank so he can be acclimated for the new tank, after that you can put him into the new 100% fresh water tank. Cheers.
