    Seen John play live several times, incredible musician with a great voice as well. Makes playing guitar look so incredibly easy.

    Forget the tuning, this is someone who intrinsically knows the guitar :)

    I was introduced to this cat through Mick & Dan @ That Pedal Show, when they had him on about a year or so ago. I was absolutely blown away - What a masterful musician, and seemingly, an all around nice guy. Now a big fan.

    Just heard John play on Mark Radcliffe's radio show so got here cos I love the sounds. I fumble around in DADGAD intrinsic like. So this interview with John really brings the cows home, if you know what I mean. So glad I tuned into mr Radcliffe to discover this amazing musician!

    Beeswing, one of the greatest songs ever written. Amen to that.

    Beeswing is in Drop D, but Richard has other tunes in DADGAD. No matter, this video is wonderful. Pierre Bensusan plays exclusively in DADGAD - in my mind he is a master of that tuning.

    So this is the John Smith who made the Hummingbird album. Wonderful music, especially Willy Moore. For anyone interested in hearing more DADGAD music, Laurence Juber's The Jig Is Up is worth hearing.

    What kind of pickup is that?

    • @petergoddard1960
      @petergoddard1960 Před 3 lety +3

      I believe it's a vintage DeArmond pickup that John was experimenting with for a while. He subsequently replaced it with a Vanden Mimesis Kudos Blend. That little Fylde Alexander (his main guitar) has some complex output options that feed a three way signal through a custom pedalboard giving John a very flexible set up for live work.

    The interviewer seems to have trouble getting out an English sentence. Spit it out, or ask someone else to do it.
