In this video, I finally had the opportunity to take the Rift Zone 1 Medium 27.5 out on the trail to give it a shake down and see how it rides.
I was way impressed with it! For $1799 you get a pretty sweet full suspension mountain bike with modern geometry, capable X Fusion air suspension, hydraulic brakes, and a 5 year warranty. It does not come stock with a dropper post but you can add one for a couple hundred dollars if that is important to you.
As mentioned in the video, shorter and smaller people tend to feel better on 27.5 rift zones while taller people tend to go for the 29ers. I ride both at 5’8” but lately have been riding my 29er Forbidden Druid. I enjoyed the 27.5 though on this ride. Maybe it was in my head but it felt very lively and sporty and nimble in the turns. #bikingroots, #marinbikes, #beginnerfullsuspension

Which Rift Zone would you buy and what color? Right now I’m leaning towards the medium 27.5 in the orange and blue!

The purpose I use it is to cycle long onroad and a little time offroad
I used to run the xcaliber 8 trek, it's an XC bike.
In terms of parameters, Reach 430 - 350 is suitable for me (height * 2.5)
size M riftzone 2023 size M has a Reach of 460.

Medium 29 rift zone 3 in black. Love ❤️ the different pedals colours. Looks like the perfect bike for these trails. Are Marin still doing the rift zone xr for 2023?
Thanks for the comment, and glad you like the pedals! Yes, they did away with the Rift Zone 3 and now have the XR which is the highest non carbon model. They look pretty sweet. We actually just ordered one for a customer so it should be here soon and we will do a short video on it when it comes.

I like the rift zone, had last years model rift zone 1 in 27.5 had to sell it for financial reasons, but this year may get another one, or the norco fluid a4, also comparing the trek top fuel 5 as well as the rocky mountain element a10

yeah it would be nice to have, anytime I've had them, I rarely use them though and/or forget to unlock them before I head down!
You didn't mention this but the first thing I did was do the axle upgrade from 141mm boost to a through axle(I do not know why they do this to begin with given how easy it is to upgrade and while I was at it swapped out 1 M6100 10-51 cassette and chain for linkglide and yea it shifts way smoother than the SunRace/KMC setup along with a PNC dropper post.
Oh nice, yeah I wish they came standard with the thru axle but I guess they figured the price difference between a hub w/ QR and a thru axle was worth leaving out to get it at the price point they wanted. Nice, yeah the M6100 shifts much smoother, I agree. Congrats on the upgrades
what do you think about the shock absorber and shock in this bike, because a lot of people say that in this version xfusion shock absorbers are medium
Thanks for the comment. You said a lot of people say that this version of the the suspension is medium? Not sure what medium means but regarding performance and feel, I think the X Fusion options on these feel good for most people. Yeah there are nicer forks and shocks than these which are lighter, more plush, and more adjustments, but for the price, it is pretty good with this setup in my opinion

Here in spring, tx. Timberlane is the name of the trail. It’s a fun trail with more things being built all the time. You can find it on trail forks (although the trails kind of disappeared on there for some reason). and maybe alltrails (I can’t remember if it’s on there). It is off of aldine westfield or google maps “timber lane park dgc”
I’m torn between this bike and the 2023 Marin San Quentin 2. I live near Knoxville and ride at Baker Creek Preserve a lot, so leaning towered the San Quentin as Baker Creek has pump tracks, jump tracks, and downhill runs. Also the other trails I ride are only about 12 miles long with about 2000’ climbs. What are your thoughts as you’ve been on both bikes?
That's a good comparison and not too much $$$ between the two of them. For me personally, if it was my only bike, I'd go with the Rift Zone as I'm getting older and enjoy having some cushion back there. The San Quentin is fun and I take them out every now and then, but for day to day riding I'd prefer a full squish (for me). But if you're younger, don't mind the bumpiness, want less maintenance, and have some extra cash to put towards upgrades, go with the SQ2.
Hi im finally upgrading from hardtail to full suspension and im torn between the polygon d7 or Marin rift 1 any thoughts? Our local trail has mixed uphill and downhill not much rocks just dirt mud grass baby jumps and drops.
Thanks for the comment and question. Good comparison and a common one for a lot of our customers. Polygons are less expensive generally and usually have some pretty good components. The biggest issue I've seen over the years is the geometry, pivots, and overall frame material is usually dated and doesn't age well (I've had some come through with a lot of play in the pivots over time). They are significantly less expensive and on sale right now though so it wouldn't be a bad buy, just letting you know my experience with them. In the end, Polygons and Marin's come out of the same factory and are built to a price point but can give you a lot of fun out on the trails for a pretty inexpensive price. Since Polygons are direct to consumer, if you're able to test ride a Marin at your local dealer, I'd encourage you to do so which helps especially if you're in between sizes. As far as the trails in your area, either bike will be perfectly fine. In the end I'd compare the geometry, specs, price, and color and then decide. Good luck and happy trails!
Hey, do you know if 29' wheels will be good for jumping medium jumps and for typical trail riding. And is it possible to give this model wheels with a size of 27.5? Because I found a bargain where this bike costs $ 500 cheaper, there is only a 29' option ;/ ?
Lots of guys jump with 29ers and some prefer 27.5. You can do either size. If you found a deal though, then I’d probably go for that one. Good luck!

I bought Rift Zone 2 27.5 Large, and I'm 6ft. Didn't want to go to 29er as I'm coming off old 26" hard tail. Tires on my Rift zone 2 suck though. Feel sluggish and heavy.

Wats the medium u are talkin about? and wats the 29 and 27 u also speak of? as im confused and new to this cheers for any replys.
Thanks for the question and sorry for the confusion, it probably makes more sense in the previous video we made on the new rift zones. The rift zones come in sizes XS, S, M, L, and XL. 27.5 wheel sizes are available in all those sizes. 29er version are available from Small to XL. Everyone is different and some people prefer the 27.5 wheel with the shorter wheelbase, while others like the longer 29” versions. I’d say from my experience, shorter people tend to like the 27.5 bikes better and tall people like the 29ers better, but there are always exceptions. They are both fun, just different! How does this bike compare to giant trance x 29er???
Trance X 2 would compare more with the Rift Zone 2 than this Rift Zone 1. You do get 4 piston brakes on the Trance though vs the 2 piston on the Rift Zone. I haven't weighed the two, but the Rift Zone is probably a bit lighter but has 10mm less travel as well. Both excellent bikes.
Is the Marin rift zone xc bike or trail ? Am thinking to buy either rift zone 2 or XR, but worried about its weight a bit heavy for climbing, or you won’t feel the weight?
sorry for the delayed response! It is considered a trail bike which is probably the most popular category of MTB because of pricepoint and weight. XR is going to be heavier and built to be more aggressive. The 2 will be a bit lighter. Either one, I'd go to less aggressive tires. With climbing you would feel the weight more than a more XC focused bike but usually have to pay a lot more to get the weight under 30lbs. They aren't bad climbers just a trade off for having great descents

New to the sport. Would you suggest a 27.5 or 29? Would you suggest the Rift Zone 1 or Rift Zone 2?
Thanks for the question. Are you shorter or taller? Generally taller people seem to prefer the 29. 29s will roll over things a bit better and be faster, but 27.5s are a bit nimbler and shorter people tend to prefer (for standover and turning). I like both but currently am on a 29er which I enjoy. If you're able to ride both in the same size, I'd recommend that before you make your decision. Regarding 1 or the 2. If you can afford it, go for the 2. They lowered the price on it recently, has a lighter, smoother fork, dropper post, thru axle in the back, etc

No, this is alloy. Marin does make a Rift Zone carbon (29 only) but at a much higher price point

Yeah in this day and age, you’re probably right especially the way the market is right now. We are actually going to start including them with the purchase of the bikes especially since the Norco Fluid (which we also sell) is not $1899, comes with a dropper post, and thru axle in the back

Appreciate it. With your inseam, I’d go with a large over the XL so if you ever go to a dropper post, you’ll have some leg room for it since you seem to have shorter legs and longer torso (like me). Good luck with your goal weight, you can do it! Cheers
