In this lesson I’m going to show you an epic bass lick you can use over ANY chord!
Seriously - whatever groove you’re playing, whatever chord you’re playing over, you can use this lick - but the secret is the placement and timing of how you use it.
As always, remember to jump into the conversation in the comments!
See you in the shed,
Scott

You know a lick is awesome when you pull that face
Scott's Face Lessons
Jeffery Scott "x4=k
Lmao! 😂 I love the bass faces, I look awful when I'm playing bass pmsl. expression of feeling the groove! ❤
Thanks for the bracelet shout-out, Scott! So happy you like it!
your website (webshop)?
Don't have one... yet! ;)
Rachel Rhodes I want one!!
Tried it and it says you don't exist.
Marion Duldulao Yeah, sorry! I needed to make some edits. Check back in about 30 minutes! :)
Scott I learned this lick from you 4 years ago ... and I still use it today. my strings get old but that lick never gets old...
youre playing on 4 year old bass strings?
Danny Hood No
You can play it like this ? 3:55 I never heard another bassist play this lmao. Good work.
You have helped me play and understand my bass way better than ever.
Love it Scott! I've been trying a couple of things with it, including moving down with that lick as you demonstrate, then back up with the slides on both octaves...sounds killer!
love it! using it tonight at band practice. Thank you!
I actually discovered your channel with that exact video and since this is one of my favorite licks to end a jam by breaking down the tempo ! ^^
Thanks, and keep going the great work !
This video poped up of nowere while i was preparing my bass stuff and as it was playing my mind was blown.I have been struggling with this licks for weeks and there it is! A new video with a link for the tab for this lick! Thank you so much for this video.
Reminds me a lot of Adam Neely's Bass Lessons intro.
I was searching for this lesson to review it. Thanks for reposting, it's also helpful to practice string crossings.
I could (and already did) watch this guy all day long.
Man, I love the photo of those cats in the sea together. Randomly brilliant!
Great lick Scott.... Thank you always.....
Love it! Thank you for this lick!
I'm gonna lick this lick and see how it sounds. Great job, Scott!
I'm trying this on my guitar tonight! Thanks, Scott!
Scott. You're friggin awesome. Thanks for another rad insight!
The finger movements for "slide" with the pointing. Surprisingly helpful 😂
3:54 absolutely gnarly groove
I love your lessons!
Bass sounds great!
wow i did it after 5 hours of practicing coooooool thnx Scott :)
Thank you scott! You are amazing brother!
the descending lick he's playing sound like when link dies in legend of Zelda on original NES.
Beat me to it, I literally was about to comment on how it reminded me of that!
Lol, epic! :)
chuck thomas I read "link dies" and thought it was a breath of the wild spoiler. 😱
Are you sure you're not mixing it up with the dungeon melody(bassline?)... seriously it's almost note for note but slowed way down...
Wow u just brought me back to my younger days
Thank you, fit the link, Scott. Keep up the good work.
Just noticed you redid this video. I messed with the riff off and on for years since watching the first time and finally just got it down about 6 months again and I use it all the time now. Glad to hear you stole it too! haha. Had to get some other things in line with my playing before I could conquer it. (aka busting through SBL Academy courses). Keep it up man, thanks!
Beast of a lick! Thanks Scott!
Lovelovelove that bass' sound. That London bass workshop sounds too good to be true! I've been putting it off too long, definitely signing up today!
I'm liking your/somebody's editing decisions!
Thank you so much for this Scott.
Lots of fantastic bass lines on that Motown album. Nathan is a beast!
Scott, you the man!! Awesome vids! Greetings from Augusta Georgia!
Nice. You taught me something again. Thanks,
Yes Thanks Scott-very useable!
YEEEEEEEEYYYY!!! I'm gonna try it straight away! Awesome! Thanks
Awesome lick, thanks Scott!
Great lesson as always, Scot! I would also suggest players might also try playing this same riff coming back up the neck (same riff just reversed). I used a similar effect with keyboards (percussive tone) doubled in octaves tracking along, and created a nice prog rocky/fusiony break in a composition. Just a thought.
Excellent....Thank you very much Scott
Just WOW Scott! Im 13 and I love bass.
Dude! You're so happy and friendly!! Great lick too!
Awesome lick! Thanks
What a good teacher.
Man that lick in the begining was nasty! You’re the man!
I remember watching the original video! Nice to see this pop up again!
Great lesson, love it, greetings from Brazil!!!
Really wicked, thank you for sharing mon 👍
You scott's, simply top!
I'm Brazilian, but you're a great reference for me today, on the 4 strings!
I'm going to learn this lick on the double bass. GG.
Awesome lesson, Thanks!
...and that's how you sound like a boss on bass!!!!! cheers!
tell Rachel to start marketing that wrist band because it flops the nuts!!!! I'd have one tomorrow.
Eco too! :)
Ha. Thought I would make one for myself :-) But it seemed to have some added value with a copper wire or so. So, yes, would also be interested in a link to Rachel's website :-)
damn you're bringing poker terminology into a bass video, I like it.
Great tip! Thank You!
Wicked!! Sweet line!!
Thanks. Its help me a lot
good job,very sick! :-)
Love it
Scott man the short, concise videos you used to make are a million times better than the new vlog-style videos. I love what you do, but I didn't pay to join the academy because I wanted to see a training montage of you setting up gear. Only about 50% of this is worth watching!
Thank you!
That bass sounds delicious!
so wicked!...thanks!
YOU ARE THE MAN.
I'm gonna take Scott at his word and just play this on every song from now on.
so cool!:)
The sound! Oh, the sound!!!
Awesome lick Scott!!!! Subscribed a few days ago as I just found you. I'm a Bluegrass Bass player that has had the privilege to play with some great musicians and I use to do this same lick but a tad different... in Bluegrass! lol They loved it! All I was doing, (a little shorter version), was going down 2 ½ steps starting at the root instead of the 5, then back up to the root again. Trying to explain the timing as half the licks as yours, 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and 1. I will definitely steal this!!! Super awesome!!!!! Big thanks for sharing!!!!!
Johnny Bellew
You just found Scott???? was your Internet connection down for the past 10 years? . . .
Welcome man... I love blue grass.
Rashy Doxx
Ha! I hear ya! I'm now playing Contemporary Christian music at Church, (hence the new search for ideas and finding Scott) along with being a spare tire for various other bands. Trying to expand my knowledge... found the source!
The man is beyond.
Sweet!!
Too much sauce 🔥
That's super insane I use that specific shape a lot
The Moollon sounds Awesome
very good. thank you.🐶
Thanks!
Too Cool!
Way cool! I wish you (and the internet) had been around during my gigging daze (er, days)! :0)
Hey Scott. I've been checking out your lessons and I just wanted to say that Jesus loves you so much and he gave you this amazing gift of teaching. God bless you. Stay safe my friend.
Get it in!!!!!
Man im a guitar player, but i love your videos mannn
good lick!
That wristband thing is cool. I have enough old strings to do that with. Thanks for the idea. I don't normally wear jewelry. 🙏🏿
I play this differently than you, but it's the same groove 3:04. In fact, because of you and Ian I worked out a groove and I use this to practice a double thumb run and it's coming along good, thank you. You guys with your secret licks are impressive. 3:55 wha ?. Hell yeah dude, that sounded really good. Your timing there is SO different, than anything I have heard seriously. You are using a strumming technique, wow. I have to play this groove different. Everything I play is like Ikea furniture, it's been recycled once or twice already. Who else besides Scott is playing this ?. I steal information from the source code, of the Matrix.(Scott) : )
Nice one
Superb
I do love that silver P bass:D
Its a classical ground base in reverse that goes in reverse that can be see in "Dido and Aeneas" specifically "Dido's Lament" of the earlier classical era.
This is cool.
Nasty Fill Brother...,..Thanks😊
