    Great project!
    Just got ten of these drums for free, going to make 20 firepits and sell them for about $60 each after I paint them. Should profit about a grand after material expenses. Easy money!
    I'm even considering turning a few of them into some fancy hanging lighting for above pool tables or in a man cave space.

    Good vid mate, you’ve probably already done it by now but cut some holes in the sides of your drum, 2 each side maybe 2 inches long by an inch wide, gets the air under the fire and makes it hotter

    Drill a few holes in the bottom to drain out water or flip it over when not in use. You could make grated cover using flat bar and expanded metal get the flat type just a thought . Cheers

    Think of bacon frying in a pan with sound and try when your welding with MIG anything from 15.5 to 17.5 with your current and your wire feed speed 2 1/4 to 2 and 3/4 ipm ( inches per minute) I like to do a whip and pause motion or small circles depending on your position, and also with flux you can run straight beads instead of using a weave pattern but it takes practice man the more you do it the better your muscle memory will get also welding tips and tricks with Jodi on youtube helps a lot he's an ol timer and has a lot of cool stuff you can benefit from keep welding bro your doing great I appreciate you sharing your idea with us.

    I would like to give a suggestion of some holes for drainage of water or some sort of trap door on or near the bottom for clean out

    Looks great! But just a tip, when welding make sure to wear long sleeves cloth clothes, jeans, hide the laces in your boots, and keep wood, or other flammable materials away. I am a welding student but the welds looks great for someone who doesn’t weld all the time! Keep up the good work.

    Good rule of thumb is don't weld on concrete. Look up what happens when an electrical current passes through concrete

    I love this design it’s brilliant. But to permanent. If you need to replace the drum it will be a drama. I’d probs introduce gussets for support then you can take the drum off after she’s rusted out. But yeah I’m so steeling you’re design for most part 👍 thanks for sharing.

    • @samwilkinson9670

    Big thumbs up for a first welding project.
    Have you created some vents in the bottom/ends of the drum for air flow?
    If you can get hold of some reo bar, it is great stuff for making a removable rack to sit your fires bed on - helps with air flow under and around.
    With a good frame like you have, before you know it there will be a spit rack.G'day from Sydney

    Thanks for the excellent video and instructions. I'm going to have a go at making one of these. Perhaps two. I'm just wondering if you only tack welded the drum to your steel frame, or eventually used longer beads? I guess you've got that length of steel underneath to support the drum when it has a load of wood in it? I also saw one recently with a grate in the bottom of the drum. I'm guessing that will prolong the life of the drum and improve airflow? Does your one work okay without a grate? Sorry for all the questions!

    • @samwilkinson9670
      @samwilkinson9670  Před 5 lety +1

      Nugget S. Afterwards I went over with longer beads ! But tacks should be fine :)

    When welding if it sounds like bacon cooking your in there and should be a a pretty decent setting it will vary tho the thicker of the steel that you go but just try to remember if it sounds like bacon your good lol
