Everything was great except the graphic sex scene. No one wants to watch something that’s damn near soft gay porn without at least a warning. Or soft straight porn, I was watching it with my daughter. She’s mostly grown but I don’t think I need to explain the level of cringe 😓

I was just trying to watch horror show and the first clip where they had g a y s e x shows up. First of all, I don't have anything against g a y people mind you. Hey, you do you! It's just as confusing as "why do people have lightsabres in Star Wars"? Simply, it isn't necessarily a part of your reality and therefore explaining either the necessity or their existence comes down to "this is cool" or any general personal belief due to the very nature of the genre: "fiction"!
The implication of "homosexual romantic plotlines" + "gay sex" --> to some this implies a questioning of their orientation. Similarly, seeing sex-scenes between a man and a woman is entirely normalized, but not with your parents - generally - due to stigma, shame and other repressing feelings related to sex as a topic - again, as with gay sex (just browse the comment section and you'll see some more stigma around it being shown).
So instead of being stumped by "why is it there?" and also not having an answer but being entirely roasted by your new family, the answer may simply be that, sometimes the director will cast a movie with a gay-romantic plot-line, not that you can help it - it is what it is. Best of all - like now - it didn't even negatively affect the story-line's quality, you could almost argue it enhanced it - conservative Christian stereotypes ++ plot-reversal aside, it was overall a very well made short-film.
Anyway, just my two cents on the matter.
