Imagine being Johnny Miller - you're an elite talent, however you've spent your whole life falling short of Jack Nicklaus and you've almost come to terms with the fact that he is a once in a lifetime legend, and just better than you at golf. I’m not a big golf fan, a massive sports fan though. This is top 3 moment of all time, incredible shenanigans from Jack.
One of the top ten for sure.
It's on the short list with Kirk Gibson's HR in the bottom of the 9th of WS Game 1 and Secretariat's win by 39 lengths to capture the Triple Crown, setting track records at all three races that have yet to be beaten over 50 years later.
Huge shoutout to the Caddie who tended the flag, super clutch 😎
Probably wouldn't have went in if the flag was there too, the ball bounced around too much.
yea, likely the only way it goes in is the way it did- hitting the exact back of the cup- it probably would have ricocheted off the flagstick
Bouncing off the stick would probably have gotten about the same reaction though… still means he had dead aim on the hole

As soon as Jack said, "You want me to show you how to putt it?", it was already in.
It's just ridiculous how casual he was the whole time 😂😂 what a legend
Your a fool
Exactly.
Didn't even take a practice shot. What the hell.

This NEVER gets old. I have to watch it every time it comes up in my feed.
And this people is the reason Jack is and will always be the GOAT of golf......along with his 18 major victories of course
I feel like the audience didn't react enough. This is beyond incredible. Super underrated.
My guess is as follows....The hole looks as big as the Grand Canyon to him, conversely it looks like a dime to the rest of us mortal beings. I saw a very funny interview once with Arnie, Trevino, Chi Chi, and Jack. Arnold Palmer said "Jack just had a lucky streak, It lasted forty years, but it was just a lucky streak" Everyone laughed their tails off!
But the putt was hit super fast. If that doesn't go in, and it circled before dropping, it's way past the hole.
are you trying to be sarcastic? because the tone of voice in your head as you typed comment that doesn't convey well to people reading it. it's impossible to do subtle sarcasm with text. if you're not being sarcastic I apologize and have no idea what you're talking about.
They didn't but, they only got to see it once. I appreciated it more after watching it twice and realizing no hesitation, no practice swing, and he hit it before Johnny Miller finished talking.
Maybe they didn't react enough because it was beyond incredible. I know I was in shock for a few seconds when I first saw it.
I love how he just walks away after he makes it like "See... I told ya so!"
Yeah, but he was thinking, "how the fuck did I do that" ?! While being cool about it. lol I'll bet.
Man proceeded to drop a ball, barely read the break, slams the ball with a putter with enough momentum that the ball would have skimmed over the hole had it not been dead center, and still made the putt.
Absolute legend.
He didn't have to read it. He designed it. He knew that green in his mind before it ever even existed in dirt and grass.
I love how after nailing that impossible he just wanders of throwing his hands in the air at being so inconvenienced. Brilliant moment.
Easily one of the greatest impromptu sports moments in history. Not sports related, but it reminds me of the guy who won a new car on a scratcher ticket, then during a tv interview when asked to reenact with another scratcher, he wins a quarter mil.

Like someone else commented, this is super underrated. That is an incredibly tough shot. The dialogue leading up to this, the ball drop, no setup, super relaxed footing, and no hesitation shot that pops in the hole. A movie couldn't have scripted this better. Top-fucking-tier moment in all sports right here. I don't even care for golf, but you gotta appreciate how this went down.
Not to mention Johnny talking while he was putting
In what way is it underrated????? Who gave it a low rating? Did you read the comments here or listen to the crowd yell in appreciation or here the announcers exclaim their surprise? This is very highly rated!!!
@@brians9508 You're incredibly naive, lol. This has nothing to do with a physical "rating". It's characterized as underrated in it's overall appreciation in sports. Because golf isn't a "major sport" like football, basketball, or basketball.
@@USAFMike Too bad you don't understand ironic humor. I will attempt to speak more plainly to you. The use of the term underrated is VERY overused in YT comments - mostly by people that don't even realize the true reason that they are using it. It is a juvenile (and transparently self-congratulatory) way of saying "hey, look at me, I am superior in discerning quality, and the rest of you do not have the ability to appreciate truly good things" :) Oh, by the way, you can take that "incredibly naive" comment and put it where the sun don't shine. lol

The stupidest too. Publicly supported a crimminal, liar, cheat etc. for prez.
I’ve heard the phrase “luck is where hard work and opportunity intersect”. Jack put in the work over his entire life to develop the skill that he has, giving him the best chance to at least roll the dice on that shot, and the opportunity was there to make it. Those two things met in the middle and… well, there it is.
It didn't hurt that he had designed that course and that green. He knew that green in his mind before it ever existed in dirt and grass.

Something beyond skill is luck
He designed the green
How many times in his life has Big Jack gotten into his putting stance, and done that very movement. 10,000 times..25k...100k, it's now programmed into his body and brain, like a natural reflex. Back in his heyday, Jack was famous or infamous for how long he would stand over his putts, especially the 4-10 ft.long ones to save par. He would almost meditate over them, before striking them, usually hitting dead center cup. That's why he was the master, dominating his time, and even knocking Arnie off the throne. Tiger came close to that manner of dominance in his time, but Jack still stands alone as the Man! Now he can play around and clown acolytes like Miller, but he still has the touch. And he still enjoys winning, even at almost 80. Hail Jack...

Jack has been shutting Johnny Miller up for 30+ years.
See 1975 Masters^^. The putt obviously went in, which was the main thing, but had it missed it would have shot past the hole by a large amount. A perfect putt is the one that slows as it approaches the hole and barely drops in, meaning the golfer measured both the distance and the speed completely accurate. That putt zoomed into the hole and hit both sides of the cup as it went in. Perfect or not, it still hit the bottom. Nicklaus is amazing.
