*PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT* - If you are watching this video on 3/6/24 or 3/7/24 and you don't fall asleep before the end screen and you see part II is listed as "Members Only." *DO NOT PANIC* Do not send me nasty emails, don't unsubscribe, don't tell me I am an asshole or a sellout in the comments and *DO NOT CALL MY SHOP* to tell me you can't watch it. The part II will be posted on the 8th at 6am just like *I ALWAYS DO.* The reason it says members only is because there are some folks that patronize our CZcams channel by becoming a "Member" and it gives them early access to all videos I put out. Take a breath, slow down, everything is gonna be OK.
Thanks for watching!

Love you supporting your members. Enjoy all the videos.
Well damn Mr. O I Came here to say I stayed awake and you’re a sellout, but you beat me to it. I called the shop to tell you this as well, but Mrs. O didn’t answer the phone?! What the hell man, it’s only 0608hrs on the east coast!! Ppsh slackers man.
If I could afford to become a member I would, but damnit Biden I’m broke!!
Jokes aside, I Appreciate all the content and the fact that yall lookout for those that are members!
God bless~
Bit of a silly question, but how does one become a member Eric? I have looked on the South Main Auto CZcams home page. But I didn’t see a link.
Side note hope you, Vanessa, the kids and Josh have a good one.

In New York, leaking oil all over your driveway means two things. 1.) We still have oil. 2.) Free rust inhibitor.
As a former Subaru owner of 15 years, I stand by that comment
A little oil leak is a good thing, I know, it slows the corrosion.

The best mechanic on CZcams. I think
You are correct! And it ain't even close!!!

So I am still amazed these people think that someone else is going to do it cheaper rather than paying you and then having documentation of the repair and being completely transparent in the process. Can you image if all employee's were scrutinized over their job duties for the World to critique? People just don't do their homework, research or read of past solutions to problems they have. Great Job as always Mr O. Got a little push back 14 hours ago eh? Yea-the public is edgy. Not enough Brake Cleaner!!!
He'll be surprised at all of the little add-on costs and what is and what ISN'T covered at those muffler shops. He'll be much better off having SMA do it for him
Nice of the customer to save up the repairs so you have a longer video potential. 2004 Jeep should be fun. Always enjoy your videos when I get to watch them.
Just making sure it's properly broken when you hand it over to the mechanic :D
Gotta love the Yukon Cornelius test of the brake fluid! Can't get more definitive than that.
Except when he gives it a cat scan.
Does DOT3 taste different than DOT 4? Asking for a friend.
You explain everything so an old fogey like me can understand.
I have always been impressed by Mr. O's knowledge but this time his explanations and depth of knowledge was way beyond any previous videos! This was a master class in automotive electronics.
Hi Mrs. O., nice braided ponytail!! Hi Eric, What were you saying?🥰🥰🥰🤣
You're like a freaking automotive surgeon. Hell yeah!
The “local muffler shop” (Midas), replaced two rusted brake lines on my mother in laws Chrysler. The front one, they ran UNDER the sub frame 😳. The rear one they zip tied to the parking brake cable (not the housing…..the actual cable wire) 🤦♂️
Just remember you have an excellent memory it's just short.😊
I have long term loss of my short term memory!
@@williamrizzo1285 Me too ah what were we talking about?😱
You have said it many times and here is proof positive that you like to trigger people on the internet. Members Only must have got you a boat load of responses. Have a great day.
Years ago I brought my Jimmy in for a brake line. The shop cut the brake line at the ABS module and ran a new line down the center of the car and just left it flopping on the gas tank. Never even zip tied it to anything. They also knocked the vacuum hose off my vacuum accumulator, so I could change my defrost, vent or floor modes. This is why I'm a DIYer.
Eric is probably the only tech I would let do any work on my car. Glass up to a fellow DIYER!
something like that
I'm betting the "local muffler shop" will just weld the pipe back to the muffler housing. Seen it done a few times down here in the south. If they don't just remove the whole muffler and drop an Autozone "Cherry Bomb" in it's place and rock the loudness. It always sucked to be in the woods in your stand, hunting a nice whitetail deer, and hear that guy with the 4.0 with a cherry bomb on it coming. Like a fart can Honda. Scare everything within miles of you out of the woods. Well, anyway, hope to see part 2 cause you and Ray's vids are my daily dose of reality and information. Take care and stay safe.
Quick multi issue troubleshooting. Check off the list.
Eric, Your normal good video. I think you're correct on that poor baby being all but gone. Man, that bottom looked pretty toasty.
The best part was how you managed to have your lovely model, Mrs. O., show off your SMA sweatshirt. Very tasteful. ❤❤❤❤
Finally an 02 sensor explanations could understand.
Professor O to the rescue !
I love your honesty you always tell it like it is & I will be waiting for part just to see the brake line fix & please try not to listen to all whinging assholes we (at least me do not mind waiting ) for the second part to drop Cheers Mr O.
Best auto repair channel on CZcams. Never miss any of them. Great job as always Eric
A lot of dodges use engine temp to control o2 heater circuit. I had a 2008? grand caravan 3.8 that guy replaced 3 o2 sensor himself...kept burning heater circuit up, i found his thermostat wasn't opening fully or at proper time..causing it to run the sensor too long burning up the elements in the o2 sensor.
I’m sure you are happy doing what you’re doing but I must commend you on your ability to teach. If at some point you get fed up turning wrenches, please consider taking a position teaching some of the vast knowledge and experience you have acquired. There are capable young minds out there who have been poorly served by our education systems who could greatly benefit from you.
Mopar, or No car.
I learned by the time I got to my third O2 sensor, but the Jeeps are very particular to the Mopar brand as opposed to aftermarket .
Good morning, Eric and Mrs. O! Spring has sprung! Only -30 here!
Always nice to see Mrs. O.
Thanks for the video Eric!
I didn't have time to watch the entire video but something to keep in the back of your mind on Mopar systems I very occasionally run across an intermittent code on rear O2 sensors. The source for this each time has been a weak battery.
Vehicle would start fine and rarely if ever set the code from say March to November, but cold weather would roll in and pop its head back up.
I accidentally found the source when one vehicle needed a new battery changed battery took it for drive to pick up filters for it. Code cleared and never returned.
Love the 4.0... amazing it's still on the road up there.
If the early O2 sensors at least on GM's would get oil or some kind of junk on the outside of the sensor, they wouldn't work correctly because it sampled outside air along with the exhaust. I never had no luck cleaning them because what you used to clean them would further pollute the sensor. Hopefully you can get the old girl up and running. Good video
Yep good catch it needs clean air (oxygen) as a reference.
This Jeep enough to make Rainman cry! Great video.
He would run the other way
Nice job Mr O. Looking forward to the part 2
Thanks for the video Eric.
Will definitely rewatch this! My '00 Grand Cherokee has the same codes!
I'm actually surprised to hear all that on the O2 sensors. Our 99 has had the had the factory ones in it since new. The front one started to give us issues however I disconnected and reconnected it and it lasted another 2 years. Last year it finally went out so I ordered two factory originals from NTK and its been good. Granted ours is not an emissions version and only has one cat and 2 O2's.
“If there’s no oil under ‘em, there’s no oil in ‘em” Good one😊
Well explained O2 sensor operation Eric. See you on part 2. Thanks.
I had an 04 Grand Cherokee up until the end of January. I don't live in NY but SD and we love the salt. Ran strong for 20 years until the gas tank skid plate finally gave out,
love the videos, and your diagnostic process. always a treat to watch
Glad you like them!
I like how you covered old crusty with fluid film on your whiteboard😊
Despite the rot around the fuel tank and evap canister, it's not too bad underneath there. I've seen way worse.
Another great video.
Eric O,. you point out several things that I miss in your explorer examinations. I have to admit that I jumped ahead in this video looking for the carnage repairs. I guess I'm sick when need that PRNY rust repair video to get my day going. I'll be waiting with my coffee for part II. Thanks for all your hard work that your viewers enjoy.
First class diagnostics. For now, 2 new sensors, brake line repair, and exhaust parts for when his buddy's butchered exhaust repair comes back. Looks and sound's about right! Nice to see Mrs. O.
Good one Mr. O!
Bad grounds was a problem in the 60's with dads all welded construction. yes in rust belt even welds become resistive. ground wire added block to chassis to body fived most problems
Yes but i think it needs a ground strap block to catalytic converter to fix this rust issue!
Thank you for the lesson Professor O. Nice Hat Mrs O. Dammit that brake job was a hack and a half.
Nothing better than whiteboard wednesday
Eric.. A quick way to get around the "reset" issue with the scan tool is to just pull your starter relay and drop a temporary switch (or jumper wire) there so that you can start the car while still leaving the key on... Then you shouldn't lose your live data on the scan tool.
Iv had Two Subaru's in a row from NY, rusted to crap !! And, im in California, one of them I could not get the ball joint pinch bolt out, and had to buy a knuckle, The other one, the CV was so stuck in the hub, I had to torch it for, like a half hour... i DON'T envy you BROTHER !
Brother?
As you say, they are a rare specimen on the roads these days. Even the 05 to 2011 is getting a rare sight. I only know of one and it's got the 4.7 and hasn't moved for over 3 years. Does have a battery retainer on it and thing is covered in cobwebs.
I have an 02 Grand Cherokee for a winter beater on Cape Cod. Looks a lot like that underneath.
Excellent informative video 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Still daily driving my 04 overland. Haven't replaced any sensors yet. Been driving it since 05 every day. Here in the North east thou I might not have it much longer with rocker rust.
Thanks
I think it monitors it by how long it takes it to start switching, if its slow to respond, the PCM determines that the heater has failed.
Great diag!
Nice work.
Well done 👍
Stoichiometric, had to look that one up.
Eric the Professor!
👍 PSA, love yours!
Eric, Love how professional you are. Thanks. Question I have what camera you use for your videos? Keep up the great videos.
What does it matter?
Cool video, I expect the next time you see this Jeep, the tail pipe will have worn through the driveshaft. Question - do your customers ever comment about
seeing their cars online?
come on you know we all come to this channel to see the mrs, actually good video as always dont lose that sense of humour
Do we foresee acquiring a tubing bender for exhaust work in the near future at South Main Auto?
I noticed you had a jeep grand cherokee ZJ. I am curious as to what header brand you would recommend for the 4.0 motor. Thanks!
Good job on the diagnostic and explanation of O2 sensors, Eric! Maybe it's a good thing you don't do the muffler / tailpipe - that thing looks like it's going to fall apart, just by looking at it :-)
O2 sensors need access to atmospheric oxygen, usually through a small vent next to the wire. If it gets blocked with oil or other crud, the sensor will be unreliable. A quick squirt with brake cleaner and careful poke with a probe sometimes brings them back to life.
Nothing like an Eric O. diagnosis first thing in the morning! Couldn't believe my eyes seeing the gas tank about to hit the ground! I would have fixed that first and brakes.
I was hoping for some exhaust welding, I sent ya a gift a while back (welding face shield), keep those eyes safe!
that's some flavor on that fine jeep 😎
you found it all. now you Gotta fix ttheir mistakes
It's very obvious this customer doesn't watch this channel...AT ALL!!!
To get into this shop there's a wait list. Mr. & Mrs. O are only taking local area customers. All of us would take our vehicles to SMA if we could, and most of us like work on our cars or are professional mechanics! Knucklehead customer wants to shop around; if they think a professional like Eric O is expensive, wait til they find out the hard way what amature costs.
A video with, Eric, Mrs O, Luna, Josh and McCoy would break the internet. But I would love to see it just once. Thanks to all of you for all of your hard work. P.S. if you dont think Luna works hard, try walking on all 4s and eat cat food for a day.
What do you come from a point of experience?
Whoa, last of their breed WJ in the PRNY. Get a good look at her, the Grim Wilbert is right down the road..😅
Good day, who would you recommend for DIY schematic's? I have a 2014 Nissan Versa with VDC light on and need to go hunting for a electrical gremlin. Thanks
it's a jeep thing you wouldn't understand LOL
Someone told me the great thing about owning a Jeep is that you will get to work on every part of it.
I had that with my 77 Chevette i counted on replacing every part of the car as it fell apart at 100 k miles something broke every few months, but parts were so dirt cheap it was hilarious 20 to 50 dollars for a rebuilt alternator or master cylinder you could virtually replace whole car for less than it cost originally LOL@@iskandertime747
Make sure you wave at the problem 👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻
4.0, awesome engine.
He owns a WJ that he had a series of videos when he lifted it and upgraded it
When you tasted the brake fluid I just about spit out my tea.😂
I thought everyone did that taste test on all fluids ?(Retired mechanic).
JEEP, Had one in 1999 Brand New, GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED LOADED. It wouldn't stay running, Chrysler Bought it Back, We Purchased a 2000 LEXUS RX300 and NEVER looked Back! Today, we Own a 2018 FORD EDGE 😎, has been a GREAT SUV So far, V6 2WD Titanium Model. The LEXUS was just starting to give us Goofy problems so we Traded it in on the EDGE. The JEEP, We Loved it, But it was Dangerous to Drive and Chrysler Corp New it and Bought it back. THANK GOD!!!!
OMG how dare Chrysler make those "horrible" Grand Cherokees that "Only" last 20 YEAR in hard winnter and salt drenched upstate NY, WTF are you talking about?
U ask ME???? WTF am I talking about??? We had that POS for "4" MONTH'S, It sat in the Driveway or at the Dealership for "3" of those "4" Month's of ownership. It would just SHUT OFF Without Warning whenever it had it's ISSUE, that Chrysler couldn't figure out. It Happened so Often that with Our Grandkid's in the Vehicle and Friends and Family we Could NOT Take the Chance on Getting PLOWED Into from the Rear and KILL some one or Injure Some one and Destroy their Lives or our FAMILY!!!! I give a S _ _ T Less How LONG it would Last Anywhere!!! My Family, & Friends, are More Important than an Un Reliable $45,000.00 1999 JEEP!!! BTW it was the 4.7 V8 if y'all were wondering. A Real Nice V8 As it were, It just wouldn't Stay Running!!! FORGETABOUTIT!!!! The LEXUS Ran for "18" YEARS without Issue!!! NUFF SAID HERE!!! Have a Nice Day/Week/Month/Year.
Stoichiometric -> fun word!
Mr. O, I have two WJ's, a 99 and a 04, both 4.0L, recently had to change the crank position sensor on the 99.
seeing as how most of the sensors are discontinued now, and the Chrysler PCM's distain for after market sensors, what brand have you had the best luck with???
And as always...If I can do it, you can do it. Thanks for watching
Eric “O” you are the expert on human/car/I can save a dollar/nobhead customers the car gonna be in a scrap yard in 2 years…kinell.
I would bet few service stations have a whiteboard in their shop!
Question: on the wiring diagram, the bank 1 downstream O2 sensors ground wire comes from the sensor to a splice. After the splice why does the wire change into a dashed line? What does the broken line mean? I have searched for this information and can't find it in any of the symbols charts. Thanks
How do you switch your Autel's units. Celsius to Fahrenheit kpa to psi ect. Thanks
I love that brake-line repair. I can just imagine the thinking, "Metal tube? I don't need no stinkin' metal tube! This rubber hose will do just fine. See how this metal rod supports it? Ha, do I know how to save money or what?" (Is that worn-through rubber hose even rated for brake use? Did it pass Department of Transportation certification for that use?)
18 tacoma 2 wheel drive, replace cylinder head and have to put together new cylinder head. Customer pay what would you charge hours wise and how long would it take you roughly
Morning EricO👍👍
🏴☠Thanks!
Thank you!
They we’re trying to keep the oil flowing to limit the rust but it took out the o2 sensor.
I can't wait till ya hit a milley
Vanilli or Cyrus?
Just curious what do you have for a compressor ?
Can anyone explain what the high pitch noise is that I hear on my older Jeep Cherokee? I can describe it as a whistle noise and it goes away at different RPMs. If I’m just feathering the gas as I drive I hear it but when I give it a bit more like leaving a stop sign or to get up a grade it tends to go away until I get back to just cruising and maintaining speed. Any thoughts appreciated.
Interesting that an inline engine would have bank 1 and bank 2. Is bank 1 the front three cylinders and bank 2 the rear three?
You know your prices are reasonable when you customer tells you "no" Im going to check around and you still order the parts because.....well.....Im just good like that
The guy and telling you he has a muffler guy that will do things cheaper. That has to hurt after you doing the money light repair. 😢
Lmbo , i don’t know bout mitchells diagrams, but they gotta be better than all datas .
Eric O’…Question; Do you work with any of those repair Ins. companies, the Ox, the Shield, etc. Or are they garbage??
Hey Eric, Did you read my mind LMAO I was going to lose it because I was not allowed to see part II. How dare you!!!!
