"Nobody expects the 40k Inquisition!"
Joke's on you, Jay. I read the video's title
Same
Bought an airbrush kit today... next level of the painting journey starts soon.
Good luck brother remember
Keep some ....
Airbrush cleaner handy
Keep ur tip clean
Never let paint dry out in ur bowl
Airbrush thinner 4 to 1 everything
If paint is really thick like Abaddon Black thick 6 to 1 it
If it seems difficult don't get discouraged! It's a whole learning process.
Good luck and have fun!
When it starts acting funky, and it will, check for dried paint in the brush even if it seems like it's in a place that shouldnt matter.
@@theezekarion164 Thx man!
Get silly putty and hoppes 9.
Silly putty is one of the best miniature masking options.
Hoppes 9 is a harsh but wonderful cleaner and will keep your air brush running smooth.
It keeps mine working at burning man or in the paint booth has for over 15 years.
They should bring back Inquisitors like they were in 3rd ad 4th Edition with characterful Minis and the whole entourage. Also the old imperial priest/missionary minis from 2nd (?) Edition are still 10/10.
I only joined the game in 9th but I’d love a true inquisition force.
I feel, like rogue trader would work for such team even better, only some inquistors would also take xenos, and rogue traders could take even more xeno races and have more narrative freedom. Inquisitors work great as a core of very varied army though. Knightly devoted Sororitas, fanatical lunatic priests, flagellants, crusaders, holy paladin demon slaying Grey Knights, unique teams supersoldier commnado Deathwatch, specialised indoctrinated forces of Scions (or hardened veteran stormtrooper/grenadiers), supervised Imperial Guard regiments, a**hole marines of Minotaurs chapters. Maybe even Sisters of Silence or mechanicus force if inquisitor is friendly with the cult.
I used to use the Heroes of the Imperium list as an addition to Space Marines back with 3e...still use that book off and on because of the everything in the main rulebook part of it. Used a lot of the old Death Watch upgrade kit parts on them to make an affiliated group.
Got the idea of an Inquisition force who managed a win against a chaos force, but the system was caught and trapped in a Warp storm for a couple thousand years, where they protected the Imperial world there for that period. Then the storm ended and they re-established contact as a strange, blended chapter of marines that descended from those stranded there for the duration of the storm
@@Willqer This is true, and they should just release a game called ‘40k classic’ on the old system with their old sculpts. At GW they have a bunch of scrapped classic do-over sculpts like proper jet bikes that could be tossed into a boxed game or something. A combo of RT and/or early 2e rules would be perfect for it.
That being said, if you remember how force organization used to work on the old system, basically every ed from 2nd-5th suited this force better. The % of army ally rules were amazing for Imperial soup lists that Inquisitors or other agents would be involved in, and the 2 troops and an HQ era made it possible to run an Inquisitor and his retinue as your army.
Still though, the complete lack of RPG and good campaign mechanics, let alone events, in the last several editions make this force so soulless. I guess you can have Eisenhorn stand around next to your Cadians?
I kinda miss the old days, as it was possible to see who sculpted the miniature just by the looks.
But I prefer the rendered miniatures of today as the whole setting is more coherent and the personal "touch" of the sculpter is portrayed in other ways.
Looking at you Bel'akor and the new Inquisitor stabbing the Chaos Book (Both are designed by the one and only Darren Latham).
And here I am with my pretty much complete collection of Inquisition models. One day I'll be able to use you, one day.
I bought that model back in the day! I still have it, and the Ordo Malleus Inquisitor in Terminator Armour that it came with... unpainted... never built. My backlog has had a lot of time to expand.
That's a fine paint job, and I loved the journey through his kitbash origins.
3E-4E was the golden age of the Inquisition, they had two entire armies, Daemonhunters and Witch Hunters, and Alien Hunters were promised many times, but never came to be.
I will admit that's by modern standards the best rogue trader sculpt I've seen
I like how he immediately said "no" to the Tau. I needed that. Lmao
It's his leg that gives it away, the era that is.
Rouge trader loves bionics.
Still holding out for an Inquisitor's Retinue kill team in KT21, I've collected, converted and built some counts-as models for Talons rules a but it's just not the same... Great work as always!
Yeah, an Inquisitor kill team would seem like a natural fit for KT. Can't understand why it's not there.
@@DigitalOrigami I wonder if KT21 will go on to develop the detail and flexibility of Warcry's Warband creation? I live in hope.
That style of metallic is really cool, I gotta try it out for myself.
Thanks for the inspiration Jay :D
What a character. That classic kit-bash just SCREAMS personality.
I wonder though, how would you use it on the tabletop in 9th edition?
Regardless, great ebay rescue. Now put him next to your chaplain on jet bike.
That's so weird. I was just googling the rogue trader inquisitor and by the time I got back to CZcams this video was up. I thought it was Google being creepy and this was an old video!
This was my first army. Love the deamon hunter codex. After that I took a long break and came backin 2021. Everything changed since I've been gone
you should use a teeth brush to get it 99% clean (put you teethbrush within acetone and brush it slightly that will clean te rest off. or you can also use an ultrason batch) :) surprised you put the base in it as well ! :)
That's a great find Jay, although when I saw the title I thought you were going to break out a 54 mm scale Inquisitor - I'd love to see what you'd make of big ol' metal Eisenhorn.
I used to have the "Daemon hunter" one of these and it was one of my favourite minis. Currently figuring out how to kitbash an updated 2022 version of it - one thing is the primaris phobos librarian has the exact same head design, but better.
I always wanted a small inquisition army consisting of sisters and grey knights led by an inquisitor and their retinue. Couldn't work in any game of 40k but I still 💬 nk it'd be cool
I'm building an inquisition army of tempestus and sisters, in terms of how they play I'm envisioning that the sisters are going to be ground forces while the tempestus use grav chutes to drop in right next to any nice and big points sinks wielding meltas and/or plasma.
Honestly an entire faction of inquisition would be sick
I still have both of these old Inquisitors around somewhere. They came together in a blister pack and were new and cool when I started playing 40k. Yeah I'm old..
NGL for a Rogue trader era model, that sculpt holds up really well
Another vintage Old'Hammer model given a make over and brought up to scratch for your collection. Nicely done. It makes me happy to see them get this kind of loving 👍
You’re ability to create unique content with old GW pewter while there is a constant over saturation of new products in the market is why you are the goat!! Awesome job my dude!!
You’re correct Jay, I didn’t expect you to make a video about the 40k Inquisition.
I like the camera shots you incorporated in this, well done!
I know this is a random comment, but dude I love this channel. I don't know what it is about the way He talks or cuts the video that keeps me watching these while i easily get bored with other similar content. Love this.
using an pld toothbrush is a good method to remove the 2% of paint still sticking to the mini
came here to say this. also Jay you used enough acetone to strip a whole army. I hope you poured it back in the container
@@AubLambe exactly! that's a lot of waste, but you can keep it and re use it
Wooo! I literally painted that Terminator Inquisitor (the body, anyway, with different weapons - I did use the funky power fist with the pointing, accusing finger!) about 3 month ago! I bought it brand new in blister way back in 1990 from a specialist game store that no longer exists.
On reflection I probably should have painted it sooner...
I've done this with scale 75 metalics since they work amazingly through airbrush and they have black-white metalics so basically did black metal and then zenithal of speed metal it looks really nice
eob: no one expects the warhammer inquisition
anyone who read the banner before clicking: your expected
They didn't forget them immediately... they did make that Inquisitor side-game with larger scale models. If memorystalgia serves correctly the game was pretty fun.
I still have 4 of the larger Inquisitor minis. The marine, the assassin, the flagellatent and inquisitor
I love his broken terminator leg. It reminds me of fallout power armor
It's not a broken Terminator leg. It's a bionic replacement leg.
@@kmoecub rad
I have two witch hunter inquisitors some of the coolest models
As a guy that runs Greyfax in his Sororitas army…… not everyone has forgotten the inquisition.
I have that model. Unpainted. So cool to see another one.
i started at the beginning of 9th and it was the Ordo Mallus inquisitor in terminator armour that got me and hes been in every battle he could be in.
I bought him back in college (in the 90s) just for the bionic leg for a Huron Blackheart conversion I made. I used him with the pointing hand and the other held a belt-fed minigun.
“Maybe the Tau?NO”
Seems like games-workshops thought process to me
Nice job, looks great. . This and the other Ordo Malleus Terminator inquisitor are my favourite models from the Rogue trader era. . This one was painted white and purple in the early white dwarf I saw him in, 126 or around there. . The other one was purple and gold. . They really stood out from everything else at the time. .
7th ed had a really awesome book, that allowed you to do an inq soup. I think it was called Codex: Imperial Agents.
Amazing work! Thank you for this video.
i feel like this guy could totally get away with being a space marine captain tbh, i really do love the old style minis but dear god i just wish terminators had a torso that made sense
Awww, soo thick... Love it... best way to start my day.
A legendary model and you did him proud, great job
Classic model, I have the original metal one, from about 30 years ago. I recognised the sword arm as being Dark Angels, but couldn't immediately place it. Thought the storm bolter arm was as well, but interesting to see it was space wolves. Nice work on updating the paint job, I think the original looked good, standing the test of time if it was from the era. I think it would be interesting to do a like for like between my 30 year old paint jobs, and what I would do with the same model now.
Stunning mate stunning
how freaking good is that face sculpt in the 80s wow
I have this model I my queue to paint when I'm mobile enough to get to my work area again (I broke my ankle and leg in February and have not been able to access my modelling area since). This gives me some idea on painting it.
I've had it since I started with 2nd edition as well so it has had a journey! I have the correct arms too.
I remember those three, I always wanted them as a kid 😁
11:17 I see this Inquisitor slew a zombie from the 70's Dawn of the Dead movie. Fluorescent blood with a heavy orange tone.
"Maybe the T.. Noooo"
I just about spat out my coffee. xD
I got this inquisitor in a carboot sale haul. Missing both arms though so have just been waiting for the right pair to come along.
got the same model.. and i love my old inquisitor
I know this isn’t Halo but 8:15 reminded me of Craig the Brute, and now I can’t unsee it
Awesome mini and kit bash
That kitbash goes a bit further than you think. I have that mini, and the book isn't a part of the original release. Mine is Inquisitor Alice (after Alice Cooper), and mainly consists of a white primer covered in about 10 layers of green ink. Details were done with Citadel paints. I did essentially the opposite with the Ordo Mallius Inquisitor with a rendition representing pen and ink as if it were drawn by John Blanche.
I’ve got four of these kicking around if ya want them!
I just saw max miller tasting history and he also made that "nobody expects the Spanish inquisition joke" this is just pure gold dejavú
I love how there's absolutely no way a human body could fit into those old terminator armor suits... especially with the size of the head. LOL
Look so cool have done some painting video for eldar at all.
Jusr over a month ago I hat the old logan grimnar as a comission on my painting desk
Hint: To clean the miniature from all the old paint, you could use acetone in an ultrasonic cleaner and use a toothbrush immediately after that. Ultrasonic cleaner are surprinsingly cheap. ;)
Idk how they function as an army tbh(they r legit detectives but have the right to blow up planets) I feel like they would be better in Kill Team or just there for some narrative battles.
It would have bveen inteeresting to hear more about his faction witch hunters or deamon hunters.
Really nice find .
The arm position is similar to the librarian in terminator. Seems wrong but hey it was custom like that. It is what it is. Lovely paints Jay
Since reading Eisenhorn, I'm so hyped 4 Inquisition ❤
In the newest rules for the Inquisition (that I know of) You got Inquisitors, acolytes, daemonhosts, Jokaero weaponsmith and that really specific Land Raider
That's it.
HQs, Elites and one rare heavy support.
Acolytes are super versatile though so I dunno.
Awesome Video. I love watching these Retro models get a fresh paintjob using modern techniques.
He looks amazing.
LA's TOTALLY AWESOME All Purpose Concentrated Cleaner And Degreaser Spot Remover works great for stripping minis also...
As with any stripper be careful to keep the fumes away from you.
Also, maybe a metallic white would work out better instead of just a pure white?
At first I thought the glue joints and base survived the acetone.
Also looks like you need a 2nd ed Tyranid codex.
I had a whole panic attack at first because you're putting a model in acetone but they're remembered he Is a metal model
Apple Barrel! love it.
Noooooooo I had this mini back in the day! The paint scheme for inquisition was purple. I remember spending ages glazing the bugger because it was before inks came out.
What mix ratio do you use on the Apple Barrel paint for it to spray?
Nice, and good detective work on the origin of the arms. Has it been 30 years since I painted mine with the original arms? I went with a pale blue-grey to link mine thematically to the Grey Knights
They would make an amazing faction in Kill Team, though would need some balancing, as you could build a retnue with operatives from other factions. To caledown the power grade, could be a rookie Inquisitor on his first mission.
Unless they elease another Commanders style expansion.
I love the music and gear up scenes, but a quick cut one a la American Werewolf or Shawn of the Dead would be fun.
Edit: Army of Darkness*
Latex gloves and Industrial techno. Getting flashbacks to a Berlin gay bar.
Actually Jay. That IS the old Asmodai model!
I'm old I loved all the old terminators 30 bucks for a box of lead minis.
New to warhammer 40k, spent weeks looking at what army to pick, lore videos, game battle reps......ended up liking / ordering Grey Knights [only a small 1k army] but i didnt really like the GK HQ models, Crowe was nice looking but i didnt want to ebay bid constantly to pick one up......with lots of advice, help i picked up Tor Garadon [kitbashed into a Brother-Captain with Daemon Hammer and shoulder mounted Psilencer] Then cam Inquisitor Karamazov! Oh my, it was a awesome model and i knew i wanted it to be my "stand out" leader in my army, i was gutted i couldnt have any more Inquisition type models boohoo GW
GW forgets every faction that is not Space Marines, which I used to like before I got into the game and saw that they come out with units instead of other factions
If he had his original weapon it would be easy because the Rogue Traders weapons are very unique. However, as I had the other Inquisitor from that time I thought directly he was from that time
You could try mixing white paint with Army Painter's Fairy Dust? I haven't given this a go yet
I like Vallejo Aluminum for a brighter metallic than silver.
I would like to ask. I am trying to paint models and I am practicing. If I wanted to remove paint from my plastic models, what do I need and do to remove the paint from plastic models if I wanted to do in the future. The paints I use are acrylic Vellejo.
Damn things older than I am by a decade
You should try a pearl colored acrylic, basically just a metallic white.
I have that inquisitor model somewhere about (with the original arms, badly cast and with missing detail as those arms are).
hopefully they will put them in with imperial guard perhaps as a few pages
Im not sure what the actual lore is behind power swords, but to me it *feels* like the blood on the sword should be boiling or burnt or something, or maybe blown clean off by the energy just leaving a red stain. The fresh opaque blood doesn't quite seem right tho.
if you want to do proper metalic highlights dont mix white with silver, that dulls down the "metalic" aspect of the metalics which can make the model actually look darker
you want to get a pearlescent paint of some type, hobby paints dont seem to have these but they are common enough in acrylics, essentially a metalic white
you can then use that as your highlight/mixing colour and you dont lose any "metalic" shine
What airbrush should I get for an apartment? Small, and quiet as possible.
Good job.
Where'd you get the mini colourwheel, please? I bought what was supposed to be a "pocket" one on amazon, but it's quite big.
its an enamel pin:www.etsy.com/listing/802178766/the-original-color-wheel-enamel-pin?click_key=76195970f545fa8d62fa0a319d33fba740b5d691%3A802178766&click_sum=16656260&ref=related-1&pro=1&frs=1&sts=1
Still got the model😀
