    Unpopular opinion:
Federer 2017 was the real Federer prime. Competing against Rafa and Nole in their total prime, and beating Rafa with a 4-0 record over the season was insane.
He might have been even more dominant in 2004-2007, but in 2017 he was playing against way more versatile players and the other 2 greatest in their prime.

I don't look at the statistics.
Lionel Messi has never won a World Cup. But every time the ball gets to his feet you expect something magical to happen. The same is with Federer.
One thing nobody mentions is the power of his wrist. Nobody gets the racquet behind the ball like he does. And the flick of his wrist is where all the magic happens. Just like holding a ping pong bat to a ping pong ball.
Good compilation, by the way. Cheers.

Redemption. The maestro deserved this. He worked for it. Through losses and injuries he came back to the top. I cried when he won the AO. Beautiful tennis. In fairness, Novak and Murray were tougher match ups for him on hardcourts than Rafa. Del Potro was always tough for him. I will miss Delpo too. I don't know if someone in his team advised him, or whether he figured it out himself, perhaps after playing against his friend Stan Wawrinka so often, but whatever caused him to change his backhand in 2017 made that comeback possible. He always had a decent backhand, but more often than not he seemed to favour floating the ball back rather than smashing it. That new lethal backhand together with the rest of his excellent and varied shot repertoire, made him a more complete player.

My family and I watched all US open tournament in 2017, we usually don't get to do that, we had gone to Florida for a holiday from the UK in SEPT 2017 and were lucky/unlucky lol to go when hurricane Irma decided she was going to batter the state. Fortunately for us in Orland it was just, terrible winds and a lot of rain, the parks were shut, but our hotel was good we had power and TV reception, it was 4 days later when the food started to become an issue as everything was still shut, and we had run out of our emergency supplies of crisps and chocolate lol, but the tennis was great .

I think, Rafa is a brilliant player, but with all his twitches and OCD, I find it very difficult to watch him, Novak is also a brilliant player , but when you watch him it feels like he is working his arse off to win. THEN there is FED, he just makes the game, look and feel beautiful and effortless, IMO he is the greatest male player of all time .

Federer is the guy who wins slams when the others falter. He's not the guy who beats others at their best..fedsqaush had lots of success with B players and B tournaments where he won 50% of his Tiltes 250/500 circuit ..only beat Djoki/ndal 1 out of 3 tries at GS matches and couldn't even beat nadal once at French and lossed to djoki 3 times in a row at wiimbledon finals on his supposed best surface and even had the crowds

He's the MJ of tennis. Lebron could get more points or more titles but no one in their right mind could ever actually think he could beat MJ or Magic. They were physical forces of nature (as Rodger is too in Tennis) but used their minds to find ways to win and make it look so slick and effortless. Graceful. Like he was born for it

I don't care for the narrow focus on the numbers game. Whether Roger has one, three, or more slams, he is the greatest and most complete player the game will ever see. Having said this, now the world has been captivated by young Carlos Alcaraz. We may never see Roger play Carlos, but if anyone can battle the stunning prodigy, it would be Roger. Both Novak and Rafael have been defeated by the kid. My question would be "have we seen the last of the GOAT? If I'm honest, I would hope not. What Roger did in 2017 is nothing short of a tennis miracle. He reinvented not just his backhand, but his entire mindset to grind and win against the dirtballer from Mallorca, even as all hopes seemed lost. What a man!

Why mention Novak and Not Sinner who has defeated Alcaraz twice?
Nadal,Sinner and Novak have been battling Alcaraz pretty well. Nadal 2-1, Sinner 2-2 and Novak met him only once on Clay and lost in a 3rd Set Tie Break. Roger at 41 years old without a knee problem wouldn't beat Alcaraz.

Novak Is the most complete player of all time and I'm a Nadal fan. He proved it by winning all 9 Masters 1000 and winning each Slam at least twice. A record 12 HC Slams. Won 11 Clay Masters. Federer only 6. 27 HC Masters. Federer 22. Defeated Nadal twice at the F.O which Federer couldn't do. Most weeks at #1 , YE #1 seven times and if it wasn't for Covid would be YE #1 this year also.
Had the greatest Season of all time in 2015 winning 6 Masters and 3 Slams and the WTF. If it wasn't for Covid he'd be the Slam leader.
