Agreed, it would be ideal to have an Open WC. My goal is qualifying for world's in open and I can't wrap my head around how I'd be able to do a decent pro time as a lighter competitor
Thats a great way of putting it, comparing pro and open to a half and full marathon, ive done 3 pros, however this video has inspired me to take step down and do the open as i have come from a track and field background. Thanks
I've done two open Hyroxes, then two Pro ones, and the Pro's absolutely kicked my ass! It felt like a significant step up in weight on the sleds (especially the pull), but also racing later in the day didn't help
Great video. I think the open should be capped. If someone can complete the open in some of the times I've seen, then they should be doing pro. Maybe the pro should have longer runs - 9 or 10km. I like your comparison to half a half and full marathon, but in those events, if you have a very fast finish time expected, then you are an elite racer. So your start time can be different from everyone else/always at the front. I dont think other runners compare their finishes to the elites as they are viewed separately. Whereas in hyro, all participants are lumped in together. I am taking part in Dublin for the first time but it does put me off how competitive it has become and the 'athletes' being in the same pool as people like me (if that all makes sense) 👍
Thank you, yes I do understand that. It becomes an issue when you have people that want to have fun and aren’t worried about time and those that want to finish as fast as possible without getting held up. Maybe a better system for putting people into heats of similar abilities is needed. Good luck in Dublin don’t get put off by the competition, just run your own race and enjoy it
I’m quite interested here. I’ve done 2 Pro races and a Mixed Double… never an Open. 🙈 I’d love to “drop down” for a try… but I’ve been suckered in by those yellow patches! 😅
@@woodsyworkout FWIW, my analysis thus far suggests that I would go from 49-54th percentiles in Pro Men, to around 20-25th percentiles in Open Men. Analysis based on slightly faster run total (I use run for recovery in Pro), like for like in the “common” stations, and 10-20% faster in the “Pro weighted” stations. I find it very interesting that, despite the weights, there does appear to be a difference in “class” between the two - ie. There are a lot of times in the Pro field that would stand respectably in the accompanying Open event.
Last year for 16-24 in Melbourne they had 1 spot for open and 1 for pro. Open winner 1:08:06 pro winner 1:06:57. 2nd and 3rd in the pro didn’t qualify even though they were both faster than the open winner. This year I expect the entry will be higher so there may be more spots but 68 is possible but right on the edge so you probs need a bit of luck.

It makes sense especially as both divisions are getting competitive.

Thanks, that would be cool I’d be interested to know how you find it.
Wasn’t expecting to have you read my name out. Funny 😂😂 I agree though it’s difficult to understand!
Thanks for watching well done on a great time!
😊
Love the idea of qualifying for an open WC if done in a open race and the same for pro. Love the videos, keep them coming woodsy! 🤜🤛
Thank you
Thank you for the video. Where did you find the information about qualifying times for previous competitions?
Thanks!
The Hyresults site. Link is in the description.

Well done, thanks for sharing your insight, will you go back to open or keep trying the pro?
@@woodsyworkout I've retreated back to the Open in October in Amsterdam so I can enjoy more of the weekend

@woodsyworkout thank you 😊 your videos have been a massive help in choosing how to prepare. Thank you for sharing your knowledge 🙌

Yeah I think most people go from open to pro and not the other way around. So I’d be interested if you do

Rob got my spot from the Pro race thankfully
Yeah the roll downs help, good luck in Nice mate.
Have they lowered the weights for Women Open sled push and pull? I thought it's 100kg and 78kg?
No, it’s 100kg and 78kg including sled. The graphic in the video was excluding the sled weight.
I’m doing the pro in Melbourne so if I get say 68min in the pro but there are people in the open getting 66 65min will they make world champs over me?
It’s very possible but it depends, what age group are you in?
I’m in 16-24
