    It's an interesting point, to mention the distance from the computer/interface to optimise which connection you use.
    In my opinion, the distance is important to note for two reasons:
    1⃣ You're moving away from a device that is making too much noise (ie. computer fans), or;
    2⃣ You're setting up in a studio and a computer doesn't work aesthetically or practically in the space (video or not).
    The first is a big one, as the condenser mics (eg. Blue Yeti) will pick up lots of ambient noise like PC fans, so moving it further from the noise makes sense. As a quintessentially USB mic, you don't have the option. If one can shell out for the new Podmic, then the choice is easier (as its a dynamic and will reject more room tone).
    In the second, it's rare that I've seen podcasters setting up a studio with USB mics, especially if it involves multiple hosts/people. Managing many USB mics in a single computer isn't simple (or possible?!) in a lot of cases. And, again, if they're condensers the post-production will be a nightmare! But again, the Podmic comes in clutch being a dynamic mic AND having access to the Rode Unify software (I think?) to manage multiple USB mics.
    This was a great video that puts forward a lot more advantages than those on the surface, comparing the Podmics, Shure MV7s and Samson Q2Us of the world to the standard Elgato Waves, Blue Yetis and Razer Serien Minis. Sah good!

      Yeah exactly right. The USB microphone option is great for solo podcasters, those shooting lots of webinars, video tutorials etc, that need to be close to their computers - but if you have the luxury of more space, then I say use it. The Rode PodMic and the Shure MV7 really do future proof you for any setup which is why I'm a big fan of those for podcasters. I'm yet to shoot my comparison video of the MV7 vs PodMic - that's next on my microphone battle list!

    Never thought about the cable length! 🤯
    If I use a 6ft - 10ft USB C cable for PC cable management am I tanking my audio?
    I like to tack my cables to my mic arm to keep them out of the way. 😕

      Yeah it's not something you really think about at first! Totally get it. It does depend on the microphone that you're using though, as some of them don't require a smaller USB lead to function properly. What microphone are you running with? The Shure MV7 for example comes with a longer USB lead than the Rode Podmic/Rode NTUSB. So it will depend on what mic you've got happening. Cables along the boom arm makes for a much cleaner aesthetic so I definitely agree with you there.

      @@bambymedia I currently have the Hyper X Quadcast S - but noticed the LEDs were actually causing some static audio when running. Plus the sound quality just hasn’t been what I hoped even after tweaks. So I’ve been looking for a replacement.
      Since most of what I do is streaming, podcasts and discord calls, I was leaning towards the rode pod mic with a usb c connection. I need something that is both mac and pc compatible as I use both platforms.

      Ah yes I haven't heard great things about the microphone you have there. That's a shame about the interference created by the LED's! The Rode Podmic is fabulous and will definitely be a good option - depending on your voice you might also like the Shure MV7. I did a battle between the two of them here: czcams.com/video/yWF6NfktURw/video.html Same price point and both have USB and compatible with PC and Mac. So it's more of a personal preference as to whether you want a deeper/bassier sound (MV7) or a cleaner/crisper sound (Podmic USB). Enjoy!
