  • ( www.TFLcar.com ) Honestly the 2014 Lexus CT 200h F Sport is more of an entry level luxury hatchback than a race-bread race track machine. But the F Sport is the Lexus version of BMW's M badge so Nathan decided to take it to the track and see if this hybrid Lexus is worth of the sport badge.

i dont get all the hate... "F sport" is just a upgraded version with badges, new interior and some chassis upgrades. So many hates Lexus and toyota for this, but when BMW make "M-sport" cars and audi make "s-line" its apparently cool and worth it, they r doing the exact same thing... my god...

Build quality, interior, reliability are stunning ... naturally But the snail like performance is a killer. It's just a pointless car. What Lexus could do in the F-sport model of the CT200h is that they could put the same hybrid engine from the ES300h and just call it the CT250h F-sport in order to give it that boost of performance to 200hp while still getting 40mpg combined.

Or the 2.0L turbo engine from the IS/NX 200t. It would be a bigger drop in mpg, but a major performance boost, which is what the F Sport line is really supposed to be about. I absolutely love my 2017 model (sadly the final model year in the US, and sadly mine isn't an F-Sport) which I bought used for $21K. It's a lot of fun in the city, and on the Mountain Roads that are part of my daily commute. There are unfortunately too many hills for me to do a proper 0-60 test on flat ground, but in Sport Mode with traction control off and going up a 2% grade, I've managed in in about 9.8.

My wife and I just bought one.. The CT200h handles nicely and is comfortable. We live in a city with crowded streets and congested freeways, and there wasn't much opportunity to ever use the ample horsepower of the previous car's V-8. We've enjoyed driving the little Lexus all over while figuring out it's little hybrid quirks and just noticed we've only used 1/3 of the full (11 gallon) gas tank that we had when we drove it off the CarMax lot two weeks ago.

The only maintenance, besides oil changes and tires on record is changes to tail lights and head lights. The car still feels like he describes it. I have enjoyed it so far and have gotten plenty of compliments about it. If you can find one that's been treated well enough and for a decent price I think it's a pretty good car. Whether or not you like the looks or the CVT etc. is all down to personal choice but I would rather they made the F-Sport models more than just a cosmetic/handling change. The review hit the nail on the head with the car's biggest fault for more enthusiastic/track driving and that is it needs more power. It really handles well, especially considering the additional weight over a comparable competitor. Still, for everyday use, if you don't need a load of interior space, it is a cracking car..

+Trades46 Yea, these things are like Apple products. The base model prices are competitive enough to lure you in, but the upgrades are incredibly overpriced. They level out over time in the used market, though. Buy a 2-3 year old CT and you'll save yourself $10-15k for a nearly identical vehicle. I don't particularly care for the new front end anyway. The original had a bit more of that "Timeless Lexus" look, while the new one already looks kinda dated to me.

    • @Trades46

Remember that if this car was tested in Colorado, it's likely 4,000 to 6,000 elevation. A non turbo ICE loses about 3% power every 1,000 feet in altitude. Most other tests (at a lower altitude are also around 10 seconds 0-60 MPH. And this car is much different than a Prius. The only thing they share is the drivetrain. The suspension is much more sophisticated with a double wishbone rear. Much improved handling.

I own one. Doesn't make a difference. Flooring it in any mode is the same. The throttle sensitivity curve is basically inverted in sport mode, so a light touch will give you a relatively strong response, whereas in Eco you have to put the pedal down pretty far before it gets more responsive. Normal seems to be somewhere in the middle, maybe a bit more towards Eco.

+Lexus Cohen They should definitely drop a supercharger in the F sport. Would probably have to have a different transmission, though. I doubt the Prius CVT could handle it.

mmmh.... doesn't seem really sporty. For less money you can go for a Fiesta ST or a Golf GTI. Yeah, of course they're not as luxury as that, and they're not even hybrid, but sure they're funnier. And they won't consume much more petrol that the CT200h, on real world.

tried it, no offense Toyota (ahem ahem...) Lexus,
this car is a peace of garbage, and to charge for it that much ?
it just shows how many ignorant consumers reside in the auto market.
if you buy if for the fuel savings, there are better alternatives. if you buy if for the quality of driving or better say the lack of it, then why bother....

    • @antdx316
      @antdx316 Před 7 lety +7

It gets 45MPG. That's far from garbage. If you want performance you get a BMW but that eats way more gas than this and when not "racing" you waste gas and $ because no matter how slow you drive them you would get 15mpg with the twin-scroll turbo V8. Unacceptable imo and the BMW Hybrids cost $10k+ to fix when those fail.
The ct200h is a luxury version of the robust super reliable Prius Hybrid which should have more stars. Getting the non-F sport ct200h in silver looks great and is perfect size for me. I'm 5'3 130lbs and I kind of messed up driving "bigger" cars all my life. Maybe the super cars would be a perfect matchmake for my size and intellectual personality.. but only have driven the Porsche and felt that was "too" aggressive.
I'm more chasing efficiency than anything. Whatever is needed to get the job done as quickly and efficiently as possible is totally the way. Street driving.. 45mpg is insane. I think the new Prius gets more mpg but.. I said if I'm going to do Uber as a "career" I would get Lexus Hybrid. Full practical hybrid with a luxury appeal non-performance.
The problem with a fast BMW is you end up being lonely leaving everyone at lights. You end up getting like 3mpg doing it. You end up doing more wear and tear to the vehicle. The problem with an F sport entry hybrid is it kind of has a poser state.. unless you end up doing massive carry speed on racing softs and out cornering even the fastest super cars on ultra tight slow down corners but then getting left behind at the final exit corner...
Really though, no one really cares too much about the vehicle as it just is a hobby. If you get an expensive car to get girls, they, as a given want "free" things. As long as you don't get a really cheap car to the point where people think are you a 100% idiot and could believe nothing you say intellectually speaking wise, I'd say the Lexus ct200h 2011 is the smartest choice, unless of course you are 6ft+ and the car ends up being too tiny for you in which you should get an es or rx hybrid. Even if the car did 0-60 in 4 sec and did 200mph and looked GT it still wouldn't really make sense.. The amount of work to do that you might as well get a used F10 M5 or even an M4. This is why the Lexus ct200h should remain stock w/ no performance options.

That Lexus is a joke for 42K.
Slow, not very good looking, and gets ho hum gas mileage.
There are far better cars that can be had for cheaper that are far superior at driving......A Nissan Juke Nismo AWD comes to mind.
