  • We get our First Lexus CT200h in The Shop! The customer is returning for some repairs and some new issues.
    We've diagnosed this CT prior with a sun roof seal that's causing the glass to clunk and make wind noise. We take care of that in the video.
    We'll also take it for a test drive and check out the new noise that has appeared caused by the struts.

    My wife has a CT200h, we purchased it brand new. It has been 100% reliable. Dealer was giving us free oil changes every 10,000 miles but I've been doing 5000 mile oil changes in between. Great little car, we love it.

      @@WarriorsPhoto we will keep it as long as possible. I still drive a 2002 and a 2005 Subaru wrx. We also have a 2011 Toyota Sienna awd with 140,000 miles that has been incredibly reliable. We do keep up with scheduled maintenance on our vehicles, use synthetic oil, oem oil filters. I rotate the air filters 180* every oil change and replace them every 10,000 miles. I spray maf cleaner on the maf every oil change. We have not changed the transmission oil on the ct200h yet but plan to do it at 50,000 miles. Brake fluid was changed at 30,000. Radiator fluid will be changed also at 50,000 when we have the transmission oil changed. My 2005 wrx wagon has 234,000 fully reliable miles. No major repairs, never broke down. As you would imagine the timing belt and all related components have been replaced every 100,000 miles. I’ve replaced spark plugs every 50,000 miles, coil packs, O2 sensors, maf and idle control I replaced at 150,000 miles. Transmission and dif oil every 60,000 miles, radiator and brake fluid every 50,000 miles. Outside of that tires and brakes as needed. The clutch was engaging high at 200,000 so I had it replaced along with the flywheel and slave cylinder. My 2002 wrx has 140,000 reliable miles, again just regular and factory scheduled maintenance. I follow the same maintenance path on both Subarus since they are basically the same vehicle, one a sedan the other a wagon. I’m a maintenance nut, that’s how I find myself on this channel.

    Sumitomo is japanese company. Sumitomo tires are a great option for low-cost, high-performance tires. The manufacturer also produces several quality all-season models, especially for trucks, crossovers, and SUVs. Its pricing is low- to mid-range and is accessible to many drivers. Though Sumitomo is a solid brand, it's not the best of the best.

      you also have to be careful where you order them from. I found some cheap on amazon that two of them developed sidewall defects in where it started to split at the bead. I replaced two of them but ordered off Tirerack instead. The primary difference was that the ones I ordered off amazon were made in Thailand, and the ones from tirerack were made in Japan. I assume the plant in Thailand doesn't have the best quality control.

    I bought my Canadian 2012 CT200h F Sport (also in white) new in March 2012. It has been 100% reliable and now has 168,000 km (105,000 miles). Regular oil/filter changes that I have done myself since the 4 year warranty expired. Always full synthetic and a mid-price filter.
    I do my own checks per the maintenance schedule. It burns zero oil between 8000km oil changes. No engine leaks.
    One set of new summer tires 3 years ago. Still on the 10 year old winter tires which I will replace soon on age alone. About 50% tread still on them.
    The only dealership maintenance was a $160 brake flush and service at 120,000 km, as outlined in the schedule. I went to Toyota at half the price of Lexus...but no fancy barista making my coffee to order. LOL
    The CT200h has been an amazing car, even though mine is a prior to 2014 one.
    Still no rattles or squeaks. It has averaged 42.7 US mpg since day 1.
    I had a 1993 Lexus SC400 for 8 years, which I sold for good money in near mint condition and with almost 300,000km on it. It only ever needed tires and wiper blades, plus a new alternator and water pump later in life. The water pump broke and leaked fluid all over the alternator, which then got fried. The SC400 was a superb highway cruiser and an over engineered car. The Nakamichi sound system was incredible.
    I also owned a 3 year lease back 2001 BMW M5, which was an amazing car to drive, but cost an absolute fortune to keep on the road. Sensors everywhere kept going. O2 sensors, MAF sensors, hood alarm sensor, interior motion sensor, 6 pack CD player, center console buttons fell apart. So many issues, that I am forgetting some I'm sure. Oil changes were also expensive as it required a specific Mobil 10W60 oil at $18 per litre (quart) and it took 8 of them.
    I'll never own another high tune German car.

    Best one to make that ct200h to lower it, without ride rough. If they have by the company I’m gonna mention, bilstein. Specifically, bilstein B8. A shorter monotube shocks and struts that’s made for lowered vehicles, without compressing it. B6, usually people still likes to lower it but it’s made for stock height. A B8 u can lower it because again it’s a shorter shocks and struts length. They will make ur Lexus ride so much smoother, firm, not too stiff or rough at all.

    CT200H owner here, some advice to other owners. Make sure you get your spark plugs from a proper store, those Denso's are commonly counterfeit which happened to me and they were worse than the worst spark plugs you could possibly buy. Real Denso's will easily last 150k if not more. Fun tip: in the CT200H you don't have to remove the cowl to get to the spark plugs. The brake caliper slide pins on these have the potential to seize super bad and are worth looking at every 20k on higher mileage cars (super annoying), to be honest though seized pins barely affect performance. The EGR cooler and intake manifold BOTH have a major tendency to carbon clog and eventually will cause rough running (usually when the intake manifold's EGR runners get clogged). If you are running rough when the ICE turns on a quick check is cylinder 4 spark plug, if it's darker than the others it's probably a clogged intake manifold on the cylinder 1 EGR runner. Dealerships and most repair shops will probably just want to replace both (and probably the EGR), which is wildly unnecessary, find someone who will clean them out. My sunroof also makes noise, but if you close it all the way and then open it just as little as possible it stops making noise and still seals fine. Transmission fluid change is super easy and worth doing after 100K, don't let the dealership convince you that it's lifetime fluid. Check your oil, mine burns A LOT, but runs like a top.

    • @sleepycoast363
      @sleepycoast363 Před rokem +1

      Thanks for the info, I plan on picking one up. Someone was saying an update to the EGRs solves that problem but idk. How much oil is it burning? Do you know the reason? I’ve heard these have common head gasket failures. I want reliable, good mpg hatch but these might not be as reliable as I was hoping. Thanks.

    • @one_mega_ohm9139
      @one_mega_ohm9139 Před rokem +2

      @@sleepycoast363 It burns about a quart every 1500 miles 😬. I hadn't heard about the updated EGR, but I think after 2015 the engines don't burn as much oil. The head gasket issues are common, I haven't had any at 200k though. I got mine for a steal, but they are too pricy now in my opinion, but so is everything. I would only purchase one if you are willing to do some of the maintenance yourself, mainly the EGR/intake cleaning. An older used ct200h has potentially $6-8k+ in issues just waiting. Hybrid Battery, Head Gasket, Brake Booster. A DIYer could do that all for 3k or less.

    Great car. Just did a head gasket, intake, cooler, and EGR update on a ‘12 with 170K. Not the worst job. Totally worth it for another trouble-free 170K. Burns maybe 1/2 qt. between changes. We use Costco 0W20 full-synthetic and a genuine filter when the maintenance reminder comes on. Cylinder walls look like new.

    6:01 That appears to be on purpose (top the oil to 3/4 full) - plus the fact that the customer installed an aftermarket oil catch can. It is to minimize EGR clogging thus the head gasket problem - infamous with the Ct200h and the 3rd gen Prius. At 110,000 miles it is recommended to clean (or replace, as AMD recommended in his previous video) the EGR cooler, valve, pipe, and intake manifold.
    The customer obviously wants to keep this car for a long time, otherwise there won't be a need to fix the sunroof noise, or the struts, or adding the oil catch can.

    In 2015, when I bought my 2011 Auris hybrid, I rather had wanted a CT200h (which should be very closely related). But I wanted to stay with my trusted Toyota dealership and workshop. Sadly they said they aren't allowed to do proper manufacturer inspections on Lexus and can't order Lexus specific parts. That's why I went for the Auris and now have two "real" Toyotas and the "Toyobaru" instead of one being a Lexus.

    So happy you covered the CT200h! I have a 2013 model (non F-Sport as it's mostly an appearance package with a stiffer suspension.) Mine has been 100% trouble free for 100,000 miles. 45-50 mpg. Uses zero oil between changes. Changed struts and shocks as they were getting a little softer. The only thing shared with the Prius is the drivetrain. Chassis is completely different with great handling and ride - more like the Corolla chassis. Often seen at the top of "most reliable cars" lists, just above the Prius.
    BTW, wife's 2008 GS350 has also been perfect with just normal maintenance - amazing car! Love Lexus!

    • @bblair502
      @bblair502 Před rokem +3

      @@ashishpatel350
      "Slow" is relative. Copied thgis from the lexusenthusiast website:
      "The four-cylinder 1.8-liter VVT-i gas engine will generate 98 hp (73kW) at 5,200 rpm, and will be paired with a permanent magnet, synchronous 80 hp (60 kW) electric motor. Combined, the total system output will be 134 hp (100 kW) and 152 lb.-ft. of torque.
      This second-generation Lexus Hybrid Drive will produce a 0-60 mph time of 9.8 seconds and a maximum track speed of 112 mph, and will be good for a combined EPA estimated fuel economy rating of 42 mpg." I personally found 43-48 is realistic. Not as high a a Prius but more more fun to drive!
      I've found that this CT200h has more than adequte power. Cruise at 80 mph all day and enougth power for overtaking. Yes, this engine revs up alot when getting on it. Feels quicker than what it is "especially in "Sport Mode". The electric motor has full torque off of the line.
      BTW, many high displacement V8 cars from the 80's and even 90's were slower 0-60. I had a '78 Lincoln Town Car with a 460 V8 that was slower. It's all relative.
      Can't go wrong unless you're looking for a stop-light racer! Good luck to you! I went from a BMW 545i V8 to this and I'm happy! (Especially with the maintenance costs!)
      The handling is very very good. Low center of gravity and a near 50/50 weight balance helps. Makes it fun to drive expecially around town. My wife and I have made cross country trips in it with no problems or issues.

    Something very important in Toyota and Lexus hybrid.
    Always,at least every each 15 days, vaccum the interior of the car and the hybrid air vent under the rear seat.
    When you clean the cabin,you prevent the hybrid air filter become clog. These clog of dust makes the battery overheat and it damage the hybrid system.
    Once cleaned,the air vent refrigerates the battery and the hybrid system works well.
