The chemistry is the same. Lithium ION, no matter the casing, there is a maximum energy density that remains constant through all brands. And you pretty much pay for the amount of charge that can be stored and usefully retrieved. Nothing will make any difference, DeWalt, Makita, Hilti, Milwaukee, if a Lithium ION cell decides to cook off, off it will go. If that is in the back of your van overnight, it is highly likely your van will go up, along with any other fuel in the van, or any other battery packs. If the van is an EV (but why on earth would any sane sparks buy an EV van - do you know any sparks that has bought one, and has been happy with it?), well then you have a big problem. If that EV van is next to your house, your house will go up. Very low probability of it happening, but massive impact if it does. The more batteries you have, the higher the chance of that happening. I guess gensets also go up in flames, but rarely so when they are switched off and cold in the middle of the night. Handy hint on a job site, wet or powder cement is really good at putting out a petrol fire. But, Lithium ION provides its own oxygen, meaning water will not extinguish it, and neither will a fire blanket. Worse, it will gush spouts of flame at up to 2000C many feet in to the air, and the gas cloud it gives off is highly toxic. DO NOT breath it. That big pack will last maybe an hour on a heavy tool, maybe less. Under load, they drain really fast. Don't believe the 'My brand is better than your brand' rubbish. There is a range of interchangeable batteries coming out soon, that will fit any tool. As long as the cells inside the pack are from a reputable brand, you are good to go. Don't believe the hype and numbers. Look at the physical size and the weight.
