I bought a 22 109 about a month and a half ago after riding a 2020 shadow for a year and wanting something faster. The styling IMO is unmatched (especially in my ruby red) and i love it. The way the torque lifts the bike off the ground with the shaft drive, the insanely comfortable seat, great top end power (126 hp out to 7k which is nuts from a vtwin) and 118 ft lbs at 3300 rpm means it just rips everywhere you go. Low speed maneuvering is a little tough due to the weight but the reach to the bars is a bit of a struggle. The 240 rear tire actually really helps keep the bike upright at low speeds cause it doesnt want to fall over. A v stream wind shield makes a huge difference for wind without ruining looks entirely, and exhaust choices are eh, im not a fan of the 2-into-1's but my cobra swepts are 👌 its got a ton of character and is just so much fun. I daily the bike everyday and have put 1580 smile filled miles

How is the 70mph cruising RPM though? So many bikes are geared incorrectly, and aren't good on the highway. Like the Goldwings for example, they drive like they are stuck in 3rd gear. There's something very strange about motorcycles having no overdrive. Of all the vehicles in existence, a motorcycle needs the tallest gears, and yet, they have the lowest (worst) 6th gear.

I owned an '07 109 limited. Blue with a white stripe. Loved that bike. Had zero maintenance issues with it, other than keep fresh rubber on it. Put 65k miles on it and traded it in '14. One of the best bikes I've ever owned. I had saddlemen removable bags on it. Only grip was I wish it had another gear. The longest daily ride was 540 miles and could have kept going. Definitely one of the best power cruiser bikes on the market.

I have the 2018, listen I rode a 2000 Suzuki TLR for 17 years, got passed by the boulevard on the highway doing 110mph, saw it at a NYC bike show on 2008 and knew it would be my next bike! I have no regrets just had to,get used to sitting up and feet position. Amazing power, I never have a ride where there aren’t great comments ,even from the cops! The bike deserves a test ride before judgement, it’s either for you or it isn’t and not everyone wants to spend thousands on a Harley and still have to add on your upgrades….Amazing Muscle cruiser period.

Fair review from Chase on this bike. (I own a 2022 version.) It is kind of in a class of its own these days (kind of like the Hayabusa) as it is the last man standing of the big bore Japanese metric cruisers. And it does really look like a Hayabusa Cruiser to me as well. It is a liquid cooled, DOHC beast of a bike. The power curve has many flat spots however and the top end is limited in 5th gear above 6,000 rpm to 120 mph. This can be fixed with an ECU flash and the top speed can be up to 150 mph....hold on tight! The front end is better than most in this class.....dual discs and inverted forks based on the gixxers design. The rear shock has 4.7'' of travel which is also better than most. The main competition these days is HD and/or Indian for USA built bikes and the Diavel and Rocket 3 from Europe but all of these options cost way, way more. Anyway, I wouldn't have it as my only bike but if you can afford it I think it makes a great 2nd or 3rd bike. It delivers more smiles per mile than most. Thanks Chase for the review.

Just FYI for folks before you buy one of these ( I own 2 of them ). There is a common issue with the 2nd gear sprocket exploding on these. There are several youtube videos going over it. My first one did it and it the biggest problem is that if you can even find an engine ( I could not in Canada ) it will cost you nearly as much to buy it and have it installed than it would to buy a new one! The only reason I got another one is cuz my original is super heavily modified and these bikes are almost identical since like 2007.

I’m in that camp of riding dirt bikes when I was younger and never got my motorcycle license. Been riding with my father when I would visit him in Florida. He and my step mom rode. She had a vtx1300 and my father had both an 1800 and a rune. The rune was a monster but rode like a Cadillac. Anyhow, I rode all three and have to say I felt safer on the larger bikes. The 1300 just felt small and underpowered for me. I’m 6 foot 250 and the larger bikes just put me at ease. Lost my father about a year or so ago and finally decided to get my ML. Taking the MSF course in April and eyeing either and m109r or a vtx1800. The Suzuki is a beautiful bike and leaning more towards getting her in a couple months. God bless all.

Terribly rrestricted. swapped to the bassini exhaust, took almost 50 lbs off the bike. Ecu flash, dyno tuned n unrestricted. with k&n drop in filters tuned on 93 it put down 107hp 105tq at the wheel. It's loud but moves out. Cruises at 110-120mph solid as a rock. Tops around 150 (I mean speed limit lol) still solid with no stabilizer. 260 rear tire gives it handling for twisties here in TN. Upgrade front calipers to brembo off a gsxr 1k, ss brake lines, swap the stock master cylinder for a 05+ gsxr 1k master cylinder. Careful, lol, brakes no longer weak. Sorry but seat sux balls. Wrecks your tail bone. Gota mod or change. Other than the seat, bike frigging rocks. It's never going to be 1 of my sportbikes but, it absolutely shocks some people.

    • @vernlochtefeld1626
      @vernlochtefeld1626 Před rokem +1

Unrestricted as you describe is exactly how this bike becomes so fun to ride. No 4 stroke 2 cylinder is going to have the all out rpm and therefore horsepower to beat the fastest sport bikes. But the low and mid range punch right where you ride & cruise it is amazing. Torque is addictive and fun to ride. It plus sound is why people get addicted to Harleys.
Didn’t Moore’s Mafia tuning in SC get like 120HP 120TQ at the wheel with the same mods? Big bore short stroke they can turn rpms for a twin. I have seen these turn 8,000.

Everything is blacked out except the indicators, which seems like a lazy oversight to me. I have the 2012 model. I LOVE it. It's impossible to park it anywhere without getting looks and comments. Is it too much bike for me? Yes. Would I get rid of it? No. With more experience on the bike yo can throw it around a little easier, but I exactly fit your final thoughts. It's brilliant for occasionally riding around town, going to bike nights, and running from red light to red light. That's exactly what I do with mine. I did ride it for 7 hours to get to a Boulevard Meet Up. The comfort in the seat does wear thin, and my arms were very tired by the time we got there. Plus, being able to smoke almost any Harley out there is a huge bonus.

Just got 2020 this summer... I'll say the stock exhaust sounds pretty unappealing as it's very quite when you're listening off the bike... as expected, but strangely when I'm riding with me helmet it kinda loud and sounds pretty decent! It had to be engineered to sound good to the rider, lol? This is good cause I don't have the $1,500 for after market exhaust to spend just so my bike sounds cool to everyone... and that's really what we want, lol.

I have a 2022 model and I noticed the same thing while riding. It's sounds plenty loud when riding so I don't think I'd want it to be even louder with a new exhaust system. I have tinnitus and wear ear plugs anyway so I don't see the need. The main thing is to get the ECU flashed to smooth out the throttle response and remove the factory restrictions. I'm loving mine.

I recently bought (6 weeks ago) a 2010 C-109R, and I'm loving it. Essentially the same bike, but with classic cruiser styling. It also has slightly less power to bring the torque lower in the rev range. It's a ridiculous bike that given its size and weight (780lb), it has no right being as fast as it is, or handling as well as it does. However, with you coming from sports bikes, I think you were a bit harsh on it. Unlike sports bikes, you've really got to use some pressure on the brakes to get the most out of them, The other thing too, is that the 109's have a secondary throttle body so they're easier to ride in traffic, and that isn't even activated till you hit 4th gear. That's where they really wake up, and that power and torque starts pulling like a freight train.
Good, honest review from you though, and it's definitely not a bike for everyone.

I own a 2008 M109r in Candy Max orange, I still get looks when I pull up and even while riding. I now plan to grab a 2025 Indian Challenger to be my daily bike and after that, I want to grab a used Triumph Rocket 3 gt to round out my garage. Mine has torque for days and I'm a big guy. I took mine on a 3-hour ride from Detroit to Baldwin/IdleWild Michigan, my doy was sore for a day, but the power was there and I had no issues with my brothers who were all on Victory Cross Country baggers. It needs cruise control, up-to-date tech as far as dash information, and some form of a windshield then I can somewhat see it on the highway but as it is, it's a city cruiser and short jaunts on the highway.

Just picked up and m109r and this review is spot on with my initial impressions aswell. Love the looks though so im gonna give it a chance. Big difference coming from sport bikes. Strongly considering adding a turbo and itll be a fun around town bike. It unfortunately didnt live up to my expectations... But we'll see if i can change that lol.

Als je de ecu laat flashen dan is dat allemaal weg en heb je een compleet andere machine
Dan moet je je eigen aan het stuur vast houden
