    Had a few gladiola bulbs planted last year in a windy area, second year in spring took away lots of bulbs from the area planting other flowers that I grew from seed. Few weeks, months later to my surprise noticed them grow back again many more than I planted the first year. I’m truly happy for them coming back cause they’re so beautiful and they really stand out.

    Thank you so much. I'm planting my first bulbs the first month of July this year. I have been perpetually awful at keeping my plants and flowers alive (i live in a hot and arid climate with too much direct sunlight). I have a lot of succulents and I've only been able to succesfully grow sunflowers, amaranth, and this year I finally got tomatoes right... and i know tomatoes are easy for most. I think my issue is over or under watering or over and under fertilizing :(. I've learned to watch my plants and let them tell me what they need more of, but a natural I am not. No green thumb for me... only the desire to keep trying.

    • @SunlessComa4614
      @SunlessComa4614 Před 6 dny

      I mix in a little vermiculite with my soil, and the wormies love it so it stays fertile. I've learned the hard way that gladiolus WILL have root rot of the soil isn't loamy, and if they don't get at least 4 hrs of very direct, blazing hot sun every day. Staking them and having to re-stake as they grow is such a bitch, but when I'm outside and people driving by stop to tell me how beautiful they are, that kinda makes it worth it.

    Thanks for these great tips! You mentioned at the beginning that you'd share some tips to help them come back the following year but I didn't catch what I was listening for. I've been struggling to get my glads to survive over winter. I know it can be done, I knew a lady when I was a kid who had an entire field of glads. So why do mine keep dying? I live in the Inland Northwest/Eastern Washington, we get cold winters for 3-4 months of the year. The first year that I tried glads I left them in the ground. None came back. I researched them and found that they need to be dug up like dahlias, so I did that the next year. I kept them in a cool closet in my basement and replanted this spring. I got tiny leaves, presumably from all the new little bulblets, but not a single flower. What am I missing?

    Hi there, thank you for this awesome video. This is my first time with gladiolus. I saw that they grew tall healthy green stalks and the fell over and a couple red flowers burst out in a big pot on my balcony. Poor thing I live in the desert. The stalks got sun burnt 🥵
    Oh my goodness so now I don’t know what to do. Leave them alone or cut burnt stalks off and wait for next year❓

    Hello Kelly!
    Very nice video, very nice flowers and usefull florist advices.
    I love Gladiolos too!
    But here un Spain (Europe), now, Gladiolos are not very fashionable, because are so classic!
    Anyway many people/florists love Gladiolos as myself do.
    I'd like to learn about US gardens, and even more about the original US flowers.
    I'm following you!
