    Outstanding restoration! You left it looking like it was ready for a royal wedding. Great job on the pronunciation of "Vallejo." I think only Rivera pronounces it better. You've inspired me to tackle my Matchbox Jaguar Sedan of a similar vintage. It's painted in the same red, and deserves to be cleaned up and painted in British Racing Green. Cheers!

      Get the feeling I'm missing a joke but I always pronounced their name Vuh-Lay-Oh. Unless we're rolling letters to mock someone. In fact, reminds me of the scene from Two If By Sea:
      Cop: Stolen, Odalisque with Red Culottes, by O'nri Matisse. He's French.
      Detective: I know he's French, but you're not, so say "Henry."

    Hello Friend..
    20 coats on that lovely ROLLS- that is almost like the way they prepare a real rolls, with its unique hand rubbed coats
    Just thinking of the burled walnut interior, the connoly leather seats- man, NO ONE understands it like RollsRoyce does- AND NOBODY does a restoration LIKE YOU-
    Bloody smashingly well done !
    Ps- true story from your new American friend here, mate-
    Here goes:
    I remember waaaay back in 1972 (I believe) when I took a late night walk with my father somewhere, he would try to stop by the local toy store to keep me
    From getting bored and bugging him-so I picked the Blue "ROLLS SUPERFAST", a convertible, with brownish interior.!The next day, I brought it to school, and while at my desk totally transfixed by its beauty, the teacher came and took it from me-
    She was about 4
    Ft tall and terrified me- she
    Had a
    Face like a hawk- and only almost 5o odd years later do I feel that MAYBE I might be able to take her down.
    So, she, upon stealing my toys, would always say:
    "you can get it back in June, on the last day of school"
    Finally, that long awaited fateful day came- but in the ensuing happiness over the prospect of no school(due to the the coming two month summer vacation) I forgot to ask for it- as well as all my other matchbox cars and trucks- (SOME KING SIZED!) that she robbed from me!
    Cheers

  • @tomflyinghat9122
    @tomflyinghat9122 Před 5 lety

    Excellent restoration Rob, well done. I have done a lot of restorations in the larger 1:43 scale and I know how difficult it is to get such a fine finish. I use either Tamiya acrylics or Vallejo Air. I like Tamiya clear gloss but I found the gloss finish was a bit dull and flat when diluted 50:50 with water or thinners. I now use 4 or 5:1 paint to thinners and not only is the finish much more shiny but it also dries quicker.
    I found the same issue as you commented on, (had to spray very close to the car), using Vallejo Model Air paints. I solved this by turning the pressure in the compressor up from 20 psi to 30psi. I use Vallejo gloss medium diluted 4:1 with water for a gloss finish. This is nice to work with but oddly the gloss shine takes quite a few days to come through.
    Anyway I look forward to you next project. Keep up the good work.

    • @MatchboxGarage
      @MatchboxGarage  Před 5 lety

      Thanks mate. Does the clear run ok through your airbrush at 5-1 ratio? Seems like it would be too thick?

    • @tomflyinghat9122
      @tomflyinghat9122 Před 5 lety

      @@MatchboxGarage If the gloss Tamiya is brand new it can almost be sprayed without dilution. So long as it is quite fresh the 5:1 dilution work for me with the compressor at 20psi and a 3mm needle in a dual action internal mix airbrush.

    Hi Rob, I understood your desire to keep the front and rear bumpers plain but clean, however the Rolls was renowned for the depth of chrome and so in hind site, I'd have attempted a shinier finish on that grill. But.... what a great looking car. Quality finish. Did you know it can cost £350 to hire a white Rolls for a wedding.

  • @sparky56123
    @sparky56123 Před 5 lety

    I love your restorations, but one thing I don't see you do is re-bend the suspension piece on the matchbox cars . After years of play they tend to warp up which makes the wheels go up into the body to far. The suspension was always my favorite thing on matchbox cars as a kid. I have seen some modelers use hot water and some use other heat sources. Just a thought but you paint very well.

  • @davidreintjens283
    @davidreintjens283 Před 5 lety

    It looks good. The plastic retainer is the suspension for the wheels. Some restorers straighten it out to make the wheels sit better and give it more spring. But you likely already know that.
