    Well, I think it looks fine. Those of us who have had a lot of the classic Lesney castings from the '50s and '60s in our lives know that the obvious decals are completely authentic to the period. These kids today with their expectations set by modern-day precision tampos--in _my_ day we were lucky if they were even on straight! That's the way it was and we liked it! Get off my lawn! :)

    I found a couple of tins, so I'm happy. It might have been fun to put the 'Trojan Records' logo on it - that is how the Reggae label got it's name - the founder used to carry records in a Trojan van, to the sound systems on the Island of Jamaica.

  • @Adam_Boots

    Lubrication is used when drilling as when drilling metals both the drill bit and metal being drilled heats up considerably. This can cause the metal being drilled to harden making it harder to drill through and causes more wear on the bit. Lubrication helps keep the metal cooler and to avoid the metal hardening. Drilling at a slower speed can also help avoid this happening.

    I have a couple of small plastic Shell petrol pumps that are about the right scale to go with a van like that. Not too many actual Shell stations in my area anymore, but there are a few. Anyway, you may be familiar with a metal filings trick, attract them with a magnet held inside a plastic bag -- the filings stick to the outer bag -- and then turn the bag inside-out for disposal.

    Cooling the drill & item being drilled helps to help the hole the right size. Overheating can cause the material to cling to the drill & give a distorted hole. Same for tapping. You'll end up with very truncated or stripped thread. Also if something of a specific size needs to fit tightly you don't want to be able to throw it in from 5 miles away

    😱😱😱😱
    Oil allows for heat dissipation by reducing friction. Heat on a drill bit dulls the bit faster. Always use oil. Then... you used your bare hands on metal shavings. I'm losing my mind over here. 😆

    What an interesting effect you got with the red. I don't know if it looks any different "in person" but, on camera, it looks like an expensive paint job. It's almost like you painted each panel separately. I'd certainly call it a win and maybe try the same trick with some other colours. It's a lovely, simple old casting - a classic Matchbox.👍👌😁

    In the drilling process, oil is mainly used to help evacuate the chips, "so you don't snap it" and for cooling. Which does of course make the the bit last longer.

  • @pimpmydiecastsdiecastandto3176

    it is neither a case of making it easier or making the drill bit last longer that engineers lubricate drills the main reason is so it doesn't snatch in the job and snap the drill in the job meaning the only way you can get it out is by spark erosion happened quite regular in our engineering works drilling shop nice custom rob

    Rob you mentioned your chrome pen in this video. I have 2 of them and both have stopped working. They still have paint in them. Its like the tip gets hard or something on the end and it quits painting. I can press it on to an old piece of plastic and the paint will pour out of the tip and I use a brush. Have you ever had any quit working?

    • @ajeffofalltrades
      @ajeffofalltrades Před 3 lety +1

      Sometimes if you pull the tip out you can soak it in thinner cuz all the paint dried out on it, but it doesn't always work

    An important van in reggae music. Really? I hear you say.
    Yes.Mobile disco's called sound systems in Jamaica would drive around the island and one such sound man was a certain Mr. "Duke" Ried.He was known as Duke Ried the Trojan as he carted his sound system around in a Trojan van.
    Chris Blackwell, who's family is of Cross and Blackwell baked beans fame,is a Jewish Jamaican who founded Island records and many reggae records were put out on the Trojan label directly related through Duke Reid to the Trojan van.Bet none of you were expecting that !!
