Facts. And I'll prove it. I'm a psychologist right. So for my final year project, I conducted a study on social pressure and depression amongst Gen Z. It was conducted with members of the Gen Z age cohort in college and high school.
The results showed that kids in public schools (Nigerian public schools) faced little to no pressure in life and so they were more care free and happier compared to their private school counterparts. Private school kids were so depressed, I actually cried while looking at their responses to the questionnaire.
College students was another ball game all together. Almost everyone was depressed. All because of the pressure they were facing. Mostly from their parents and society. The expectations were so high that some people lost hope in themselves.
Societal pressure is no joke and should honestly be talked about more.
Bro those are straight facts, when I lived in Honduras, I studied in a private school and even tho we were in a private school, i feel like my classmates and myself had way more social pressure than Kids that went to public school, most of the Kids that went to public school were just chilling after school meanwhile us private school Kids were all fucking stressed out because of the amount of useless homework that those teachers gave us.
I’m a freshman in college, and while my parents are amazing and I have no qualms with how they’ve raised me at all, society in general is fucked. My car broke down and I legitimately thought I’d have to drop out and move back home because the price to get a new engine was more than I spent on the car in the first place a couple years ago. And it’s a decent car! I bought it in 2018, it’s a 2014 Mustang, and that four year old sports car was cheaper than an engine is now. You used to be able to buy a new car in cash with a part time job. Luckily my mom let me borrow one of her old cars and offered to buy the engine if I pay her back and move home to work over the summer. Every major issue I’ve had since moving out has either been solved by my parents or they’ve given me a plan on how to fix it. But God forbid if I wasn’t born with great parents, society doesn’t care like your parents do, and unfortunately some kids my age are already on their own

I think it's mainly because a lot of foreign parents are from either a.) wartorn or poverty-stricken countries where education is valued but inaccessible, or b.) countries like China or Japan where going to college is seen as the only way to go about having a happy, decent future.

Parents/Adults really think that when you reach a certain age, you have to be this amazing social butterfly that always goes out and socializes with everyone because every event is soooo interesting and we need participate in all and every event there is!!

My mom always pressured me in to doing sports. She wanted me to be like my sisters. So she made me do gymnastics, cheerleadeing, and track. I didn't wanna do any of them, but I selted with track since I was a good sprinter. I didn't wanna tell her that I didn't wanna do sports, but I was scared she make to be my fault that I was the problem. So I just never said anything. Now she's been less pushy, but still trying to make me do sports.

My mom was like that too. I loved playing sports, but school team sports made sports not fun.

It's also quite sad how we treat each other like robots and expect one another to go through the same patterns of behaviour and all of a sudden be happy. Without actually looking at what this individual really needs mentally, physically, spirituality and so on, like any human being should. But at least we are recognizing these cycles now and can change them.

I did community college for two years honestly the best decision of my life smaller class rooms, Learning skills you may of not been able to learn because the high school itself was on crack. Plus being someone who was a little bit slower than everyone. It taught me the basis of how to do college based papers and finishing them five weeks before the actual due date giving me amply time to edit the paper and getting an easy A in the classes. Now that I have transferred to an actual University all the year two and freshman look for me to advice. While at the same time the professor love having conversations with me.
I'm really proud of you man! You kept it slow and steady instead of pushing yourself witch could have lead to a burnout.

Trade school is probably the best alternative to college. In my electrical school, you could tell the teacher you were gonna be late and he’d wait on you cuz he understands that life gets in the way. He cuts all bullshit, talks very directly and plainly, and cracks jokes. He even told us about good plans for the future (like Solar being the future, or how much HVAC pays), sometimes we’d even get out early if he finishes the teaching for the day faster than expected. Best teacher I’ve had.
When I stop following what society wants I started to become better than society desire. I don't get why this world wants you to be like a God but that's not you, just be who you want to be and don't listen to what others said on who you should be. Don't let them think for you , think for yourself.

My friends are pressuring me to make an Instagram to get girls. Quite honestly, I think it's pointless. Why do I need to show off my life to others just so that they could see the type of person I am? Isn't the point of social media to curate your profile and show your life at its highest point? I hate being pressured into doing shit I probably couldn’t care less about but because my peers won’t stfu about it, I do it just so they can add more shit for me to do to satisfy whatever they see me as in their head and if I don’t do it I’m a disappointment and an outcast I just want the simple life I don’t care about fame, I hate people.

Also some may say: Go and study something that you like and love. And all I can say is, no. Don't do that. Think twice. Because there's a difference between liking something and being good at something. Others might be born with both. And some of us not. Like my case, I persuade IT diploma because I like computers and want to make games and stuff, but once I start studying it, it's tedious, boring and hard to catch up as hell especially when you're weak at maths. Coding? Oh boy you better have chips installed in your brain because at my place, we'll have paper test and you need to write string of codes down on paper. Glad that sem is over.
But what im trying to say is, try to do something that you are good at, you may not like it as much as the other thing but in life, just because you liked something doesn't mean you can be good at it or can handle it. Without realizing you might actually be good at what you hate or has least interest on can because of that you get the upper hand, like a cheat code to boost your way up and somehow make bucks. Remember don't blindly follow what you like instead learn to judge yourself in a healthy way and and decide which subjects fit you and the least pain in the ass for you to handle. It's okey to think about the future but don't go overboard with it like thinking what job you'll get etc. The beard will COME, you just need to set your priorities straight in what you're currently facing. In the beginning you might hate it, but you'll grow to love it. And the opposite, in the beginning you might love it, but you'll grow to hate it.
Plan smart, not plan hard. Keep being the best version of yourself Kings and Queens.

@ImNotalwaysRight no. You should start thinking about your happiness and how do you want to live.
Good advice but some people may be different. I believe you can like something enough to grow to be skilled somewhere but it requires a *huge* amount of persistence and vigilance. It would be better to try out related tasks/internships/whatever to gauge if you would want to do something for life rather than weighing options. The problem with the pressure of career paths is the stress on thinking, when really its better to be doing and proving what works and what doesn't for us.
4:50 Yeah, community college is an absolute W. I took 2 years of community college and got my associates--then transferred to university to finish my bachelors. I must have saved about $40k in loans by NOT going to university all 4 years. And the funniest thing to me is that I feel like I got a better quality of education at my community college than my university. 😵💫
The "kids are trying to act too grown up nowadays" had the most impact on me ive ever had, I just stopped doing what i like, i stopped showiing my real emotions and try to act thougher and say innaproppiatte things like my other homies all just to fit in.

I’ve learned that succumbing to pressure leads to failure- even when you conform with the “norm” people will always find something to judge because they’re miserable with their own lives.
You go to college but realized your certain career could’ve been taught online or for a school with lower tuition, but stayed for the sake of reputation which no one cares about in the actual job industry. You earn a job but don’t make time to enjoy your own hobbies now that people are asking you to get a date, get out more, or when you’ll be married.
Then you spend tons of money on marriage only to see the relationship fall out and now you’re a divorced parent with kids and have to work 10x more to pay off your eternal debts you “thought” were necessary for survival. Such an unfulfilling life I wouldn’t wanna see myself into :/

I’m not pressure too much by others but I’m pressured a lot by myself based on what I feel I should be doing. Pressure can be a good thing but it can be pretty stressful too.
