    It's been over 20 years of this concert, someone should upload the whole thing. One of the most perfect Christmas concerts ever programmed.

    Without doubt the best I have ever heard. The whole is much greater than the sum of its parts. Chorus, Symphony, and Maestro Shaw all together....stunning.

    A beautiful and masterful rendition! There is no one better than the late, great Robert Shaw!

    Shaw did more to bring the choral repertory to the American public than any other musician of the 20th Century.
    And I'll say this to those who may be critical of the Atlanta Symphony Chorus--it is entirely non-professional. Atlantans were most fortunate that Shaw made his home with them. I lived in Atlanta for a period of some 15 months in the early 80s--not long before he retired. In that time I was privileged to hear him conducting the B Minor Mass, Carmina Burana and the Ninth Symphony.

      Completely agree with you. Shaw was one of the best things to ever happen in Atlanta. I was fortunate to see him conduct many times.

    This was a very fine rendition of a magnificent piece of music by one of America's finer conductors of one of the better choral groups. Handel would have been pleased. RIP Robert Shaw, and thank you for the music.

    Probably the greatest chorus in the world. Bravo, Atlanta!

    Robert Shaw is a god...he polished his choirs so nicely. This is a very clean cut recording for being over 200 voices - doesn't sound like 200+ soloists like most symphony choruses do.

    2023. Still one of the most beautiful arrangements. Still Miss Shaw.

    I love this orchestra and this chorus! I remember the concerts conducted by Robert Shaw....pure excellence!

    He felt everything he was trying to impart to us. Deeply. And he became most infuriated with himself when he could not get the message across. He obviously did in the long run, but he was not mad at us, he was frustrated with himself. What a brilliant man...

      I vividly remember when, during a Monday night rehearsal, he walked out and said "Here, Norman (Norman Mackenzie, the accompianist) you can have em..."

    This is a great classical piece but it is first and foremost a testament to the Glory of the Lord Jesus Christ, who has risen as the glorified Son of God Almighty and who seeks the salvation of all our souls, including yours. May the Lord reveal His Glory to this world and all who inhabit it. Amen
    Handel and I plead you to take note of the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
    Soli Deo Gloria

    Thank you so much for these incredible clips. Despite it being past Christmas time I still love hearing this music, particularly through everything that has gone on this past year.🤗🎶 Is there a way to see this full concert in its entirety? I can see that certain parts are chopped from these videos. I absolutely love these but if there is a way to see this full concert, I would be so grateful.

    @PLANOWESTWOLF Your incompetence continues to reveal itself. Dallas is better than Chicago (one of the "Big Five") AND Atlanta under Shaw??? Sorry, but Shaw was the best of the best, and so were his choirs. MAYBE they beat Chicago...

    I love Shaw and the Atlanta Symphony. However, I have some misgivings about this performance. The tenors are quite distinctly flat at some points and the basses are bellowing at top volume. Overall it lacks any sense of finesse. I suspect Shaw would not be too happy with the effort.

  • @pianogirl4037
    @pianogirl4037 Před 10 lety +1

    Hmm, I don't really like this rendition... the notes are kept too short, which keeps the music from flowing...

    • @sandiegotrojandawg
      @sandiegotrojandawg Před 8 lety +3

      The cadence and tempo seems just right. Most choruses sing this a bit too slow, to be quite honest.
