    Documenting me painting my first Map in Reforger.
    SONG CREDITS: Life Unlimited · Harrison BDP · Harrison Webber
    Practicing with what programs I have. MS Paint 3D seems to work fine with trying to define the landscape. I sculpted everything manually for the most part. I had an issue looking at it from afar. Loaded the image into Paint3D and just tried to blend out white spots from the original satellite image. Plus adding some different color tones to the cliff-sides. I probably will change the overall color to a more grey-ish. Also the map does look a bit strange because I may have made it too big. Not sure if I can change that. If anything there will be far island to the West.
    If anything seems off, feedback is appreciated as I am learning too.

    Hey dude! Great to see some terrain WIP vids. I totally feel your pain on this! I did a similar thing using Gimp for an Arma 3 map I was working on before Reforger / Enfusion came out. It was a 5km square map. Man, it was a seriously laborious exercise! It took ages to get it right. I was seeing VGA colours in my sleep! 😂

      Hahaha yeah man I’m gonna try and make another WiP video that’s a good idea.

    Damn, I have been looking for someone creating sat map from scratch, nice!

      Yeah just make sure this is the first step before you decide to really sculpt the land.
      I’m trying to replicate the paint on the terrain to the satellite image as close as I can. If I did this first before sculpting at least I could have not gone back and forth as much.
      Even so this is my issue trying to finish the rest of the island I’m creating. Like roads and other more populated areas.

      This is also from an actual satellite image so it was much easier to pick colors

    Trying to make a satellite map for my terrain right now, a long process indeed, mine always ends up with one of the color layers shining white after i merged the terrain layers.

    Hey, I want to make a map from scratch myself, but I'm a beginner yet. I thought there would be a way to generate the sat-map from the terrain somehow. Is that not possible?

    • @Panazoko
      @Panazoko  Před 4 měsíci +1

      I’m pretty sure that’s possible I just can’t answer you with confidence. You gotta ask in the Arma discord.
      I’m painting over a real satellite image and importing it to better define the terrain ingame. The sat image is just a mask for an the ingame map as well as determining the layout.
      If you know the dimensions of the map you are making. Try to create that size in paint and just start to paint a satellite images hope that helps.

    I'm just starting to map with this engine. Could you tell me 2 points?
    1. I added HeightMap and SatelliteMap. When I fly the camera closer to the ground, the satellitemap disappears and I just see the ground, and not the satellitemap texture. How to fix it ? I would like to see the texture of the terrain when approaching the ground, and not just the ground.
    2. I tried adding grass, but noticed that it took on the color of the satellite image, and not just the texture of the grass. Because of this, filling the area with just the texture of grass does not work. It turns blue or white, but not green.
    Perhaps I described it poorly, I could show the problem clearly, for example on a video or in discord.

      I can answer 2 right now, you have to take the satélite imagine and edit the image. Maybe you might have to paint like I did to improve the grass color. You can edit the satélite image in paint or whatever program. But editing the picture itself to have more contrast and saturation can help with the grass problem.
      Problem 1 is easy fix, there is setting in object properties for the Terrain itself in the hierarchy. It’s default is 500. I would have to be home to tell you 100%. You can adjust it to reduce that effect of pop in from the satelite image to the actual ground. I hope this helps !

      @@PanazokoThanks for answering! I just tried to solve the first problem, changed Middle Distance Max from 500 to 100 and it worked! Incredible
      I will try to draw like you in this video.
      Thank you very much!

    Did you add a new material texture for the sand? Doesn't look like anything that comes default with the engine

    • @Panazoko
      @Panazoko  Před 2 měsíci

      The satellite map determines the paint texture. You can have blue sand for example lol
