My husband gave me the 2023 English Cousin for my birthday and I am looking forward to using it. I made the switch from ring-bound planners to Hobonichi Techo in 2022 and it is a game-changer! I find that the A5 size gives me the space to write my plans and the lightweight paper makes it very portable!
I am in rings now (as my husband bought me the most gorgeous ring binder as a gift) I got the cousin for 22 and wanted to use it so badly that I cut the pages out and put them in my rings. (Maybe not such a great plan). I just couldnt stay away from the paper… and now in an ENGLISH version? I just HAD to buy not only one, but TWO! 😂
Never used these, but it's a nice touch that dedicated fans can test the new paper.
Happy to see Day-Free got a little shout out. In this electronic era, it’s just enough paper planner for family activities with blank pages in the back for our family year book spreads.
I have been using the Cousin for 4 years. This year I moved to the English version, but i also dropped my Weeks. I still have my Cat over Kanata cover in good shape and I will use that again next year -- it looks like my cat Princess
I have that one it makes me laugh that the butt is on the front cover. As my friend commented....how very cat
I loved my hobonichi cousin spring, but it was a little small for me and I had a love/hate relationship with the tomoe river paper and the ghosting from most pen ink. I also struggled to use the daily pages consistently. I’m now using a passion planner (medium Monday start undated) and love it.
2023 will be my 3rd year with the A6 planner, though I did consider the Avec format because I love to stuff my Hobonichis with ephemera. The covers this year are so tempting!! I already have two covers though so I resisted. The A6 planner does fit nicely in a Midori MD paper cover for folks looking for a slimmer, less expensive option. Haven't tested the new paper sample yet but looking forward to doing so. Oh, and Zebra Sarasa MarkOn is my recommendation for folks looking for a quickly drying pen option on Tomoe River paper.
I got 5 hobonichi’s for next year; 2 cousins (Japanese), 2 weeks (1 slim & 1 mega) and 2, 5 year journals. So 6 lol. I’m using them for different work and personal projects and am so excited to get into them next year. Next year is my first year using the hobo weeks so I’m also excited to see how that works out.
I started using Hobinichi just this year, and have decided to do the same for 2023. I got the A5 Cousin, and the Weeks Mega. I am so excited to use them!
I'd love to see the parallel review for the 2023 Kokuyo Jibun Techo!
Yep! Just bought mine for 2023 last month and I'm itching to open it!
The fact we getting more of this notebooks in English makes my day
Thanks for another great video and production! I picked up a weeks mega (purple), a weeks (aurora duty), an original A6 (japanese), and an A6 5-year for 2023. I'm pairing a Light In the Distance cover and the Malhia Kent zip cover with the weeks mega; a regular clear cover with the weeks, a reflect cover with the original A6, and not sure what cover I"ll be using with the 5-year yet. I started using Hobonichi in Spring 2022, and found the Hobonichi guides and video resources at JetPens to be extremely helpful and educational--thanks for the amazing content!
I bought myself the Techo WEEKS for the first time in 2022 to celebrate good fortune, and I'm hooked from now on! I just got the 2023 White Line Techo WEEKS in Black~ super excited!
i love this planner series❤
purchased the Tobonichi techo A6 2019-2020 in the blue color and the paper is so pretty.
This month i’ll be ordering the A5 cousin with a new cover, for my new studying and database project schedule for work. the fabric and leather covers are my favorite.
This channel is soo addicting every single vedio brings unhealthy amount of joy I love every single one of you guys
love how comprehensive this is!
my GOD the light in the distance cover is SOOOO cute!
Just received my very first Hobonichi Cousin in English with black / blue cover. I also bought the cover on cover a while back. So I am now set for the coming year. I can’t wait to use it in 2023!!!
I am so excited to try out the Weeks Mega Sneaker this year, just placed the order! It's my first Hobonichi Techo planner and I know it'll give me more opportunities to use my fountain pens!
The videos covering the various planners available from Jetpens, and this one in particular, were a big influence in my decision to order the Cousin Avec A5 for 2023. I admit I also really wanted that sample of the Sanzen paper.
Finally, I have been waiting for this 😊
I started using a hobonichi this year and have been loving it
I love them all😍😍😍
I use the cousin and English Planner and I enjoy the different aspects of both. If I had to choose 1 I would go with the A6. Just because it fits so nicely in my hands.
I have tested the 2024 paper and I liked it much better. This is the first year I purchase a hobonichi and I am not sure about the current paper. I use gel pens and they take forever to dry 😅 even my Energel that usually is dry by the time I finish the page takes forever.
However, and I don’t know if it is just me or if it is even normal, but the fountain pen ink dries so fast! I am very confused as it is usually the other way around. But is cool as I love my fountain pens and I’m excited that I will mainly use them on my Hobonichi.
On the 2024 paper I don’t have this issue and I think both gel and fountain pen dry pretty quickly. I am even daring to say that it feels similar to the stalogy paper, it is the only other type of paper I have used so it is the only comparison I can make but it feels and behaves similar.
Hi! Yes, it happens to me too. Not all gel pens works with hobonichi paper, I suggest you to try uniball one, that pen works amazing on this paper. It’s actually my favourite pen to plan on my cousin 😊
Tested the 2024 paper, and it takes around 3 minutes for Signo DX to completely dry to touch.
Had the same experience, I tested the 2024 paper with my medium nib Pelikan pen and it dried way faster than I was expecting. I agree that it feels like Stalogy paper, which I don’t mind at all because my other notebook is their A5 Editors Series and I love it so I’m OK with the change despite some saying shimmer inks shimmer less than on original Tomoe River.
I found a huge difference in the Energel tip sizes. The 03 dries much faster than the 05 and even the 04 (though I can still use that if I'm careful). The 05 seems to put out twice as much ink.
I bought the 2022 'Mother' Weeks as the first planner I've ever used, to cajole myself into keeping track of how things were going when frankly I really didn't want to spend any time on self reflection. It was just enough journal in a planner, and adding a couple ...and then a LOT of stamps to create goals and give myself some structure. "save my life" is a slight overstatement, more like "keep my head above water to see the next day" I already received my Techo A6 and another Weeks for the coming year, and maybe a little too excited to get started. Also having the English version of the Weeks is going to add another level to it for me.
Glad they are giving samples of the new paper.
I would love a video of you all testing the new paper with a bunch of pens and other writing stuff
I'm actually thinking about switching to Hobonichi for 2023 -- either the Cousin or Cousin Avec. I like the idea of having the quotes in English, but I also really like the idea of carrying a half-year book so my bag isn't so heavy! I've been using the Jibun Techo DAYs for 2021 and 2022, and really like it, but I've realized I could really use a week layout in addition to monthly and daily, especially for semesters I'm taking a class that meets more than once a week, which I will be in Spring 2023.
Great video and enjoyable to watch.
Trying the Cousin English for 2023. Currently using the Cousin Avec. Got the Hanataba 1, 2, and 3. Excited. Oh, plus the A6 5-year Techo which I already started using last Oct. 12!
Gotta buy this
this was the first year i used a planner from Target. i love it an want to up my planner game. i think i have A6 size, ill be getting the A5 Techo for my next year
This was so helpful - I have not bought a Hobonichi before, and was a little confused about all the choices.
Finally got my Hobonichi for next year! I picked up the English Cousin with the One Piece cover, and the English Weeks with a One Piece cover as well! So excited to get to using them!
I've been using both the A6 Techo and the A5 Cousin for a couple of years and they're my favorite planners. I have the TS (Taku Satoh) Basic Black soft leather covers for both, along with a cover-on-cover for when they need more protection. The only way to fully grasp the quality of these planners (and their covers) is to hold them in your hands and use them. They're unlike anything else.
The video doesn't mention the A5 and A6 Plain Notebooks. These are great supplements for the Techo and the Cousin, or you can use two in place of a Techo or Cousin in a Hobonichi cover. My first year using Hobonichi, I used the Techo as a planner and had the A5 cover holding two A5 Plain Notebooks for more general, undated notes. Now, I use two planners: the Techo for my personal use and the Cousin for work.
Awesome ❤
I love my Japanese A5 Spring Cousin (with the "Animal Crossing: New Horizons" cover and shitajiki!), as I got into fountain pens last year and the paper is perfect for them. I also won't have to join the mad dash for a new planner at the end of the calendar year and can just wait for the next Spring release. Anything to make the winter holiday season a little more relaxed is a good idea in my book!
I have used the A6 for the last 3 years, but found this year that I was seriously bulking it up with stickers, photos and washi #sorrynotsorry! So I have purchased the A6 Avec for next year. Interested to see how this compares, with a slightly different layout.
The five year planner is very nice to use.
I have been using the A6 for the past 3 years. I bought the 1/2 yr
A5 Cousin to use for the end of 2022 and I am still reverting back to my A6! Since I can't make up my mind, I ordered both the A6 Day free and cover and the A5 Day free and cover. I also purchased extra notebooks for each size and a weekly supplement. My problem us that on some days I write a lot, and on other days not so much. I figured that as long as I ha e the monthly and weekly layouts then I can do what I want to with the blanks pages of the Day free. Now, of course, I need to figure out how I want to use each size!!
Having received my Cousin Avec for 2023, I started playing with the Sanzen paper sample. It is quite similar to Tomoe River paper.
Great news about the paper!
Getting a 5 year techo for Christmas!
I'm reusing a previous year's Cousin cover and got the Cafe Weeks. I'm tempted to get an A6 Day Free to use for jotting down notes for later journaling in my others but I'm not sure yet.
I actually got the dreamy soda in a5. I only use hobonichi in that size, so for a very long time, I was sad that it only came in a6. And may dream finally came true this year, I jumped on that cover so hard
I'm such a planning hobbyist, I got myself three planners for next year ^_^;; Four if you include printable inserts I can put into my old 6-ring planner binder. Hobonichi Cousin Techo, a Hobo weeks dupe (with Tomoe River paper!) and a daily planner from a small business I'm trying to support are my lineup for next year - which I would split between scheduling and overall planning, quick task minutiae for my busy school days, and more personal journaling, respectively. I love Tomoe River paper, I love how it crinkles and how it adds character to have the ghosting and pen strokes cause indentation. It takes my gel pen inks and fountain pen inks beautifully :)
I'm looking forward to 2024 because I already have a random planner and I didn't discover the hobonichi cousin and the kokuyo jibun techo until yesterday! (yeah I know I've lived under a rock on the stationary world)
Upgrading from the Weeks to the Weeks Mega for next year.
I got the planner and it's filled with plans now😂😁
Ive been so happy with my hobonichi i used This year, so sad to hear about Tomoe River(i have a pack of the paper that Im now gonna use sparingly)
Excited to try out the avec next year and hoping for the best of the sanzen brand!
I’m looking forward to using my 2023 Weeks. It’ll be my first Hobonichi. I want to get a clear cover for it though, as I am hard on planners. They are like my external brain! 😂
5:38 That's so smart!
who did the spread at 0:35? its super cute, would love to check more of their spreads out if they're posted on ig or anywhere!
I’ve started going to college again this year, and I really want to get a Cousin along with a cover from EarthBound/Mother
I was introduced to Hobonichi through JetPens. I bought a Techo Weeks and I liked it well enough. I think their products are overpriced and some folks in the planner internet over-consume them (3 box hauls, 3-5 planners for one year etc.).
Agree. Not a lot of people really talk about how overpriced they are 😬
I didn't know they had a simplified Chinese version. I might buy that for next year. And I'm thinking of buying the Dalmatian cover for my planner.
Holy stationary, Japan and Korea are so good in making products!
I cant wait to use my 2023 Cousin …. ❤ How ever am I going to wait?
Gotta love the neech
I have been buying Hobonichi Techos and pens from JetPens for years (and coerced colleagues too, as well).
...I didn't know they had a CZcams Channel.
...
Well then. Subscribed, I demand more haha.
I’m looking forward to the Hon release in December. will you carry it?
I am a former Filofax user (for 30 years!). I've been using the A6 for a few years, but I bought the Cousin for 2023. I've already entered some appointments, and I'm very happy with it.
What made you switch I love my filofax.
@@JamalPhoenix It was getting too heavy and bulky for my bag and it was hard to write in. I also prefer grid paper.
i may have to spring for the cousin now that there’s an english version 👀 i love my a6 but i write too much for how small it is lol
Can you guys make more notebook video's, and could you also make a spiral notebook that has a plastic cover that holds at least a hundred sheets?
Ah dang, wish i had seed then before buying the cover on cover, i dint even noticed when i bought it 🥺😭
I'm a jibun techo kinda gal but I really enjoyed watching this video! I have a sneaking suspicion my favourite planet is going to get a video soon too XD
Edit: favourite *planner lol
As a person who's been using Hobonichi for several years now, I might reconsider which notebook to choose for 2024 once the paper changes. I might go back to the Rhodia Web altogether.
I love the cousin - It is almost absolutely perfect for my needs. Only problem is I hate the paper. I wish there was an option for 80+ gsm paper purely because ghosting drives me nuts.
I've tested the Sanzen paper with several fountain pens - using Diamine ink and both EF and UEF nibs. I'm find the feel of the paper is very close and if I had to be super critical, I'd say the Sanzen ghosts a little more than Tomoe River but no bleed-through. So ... I'm good.
Yeah that ghosting actually makes me wonder if I should looking for grayish black ink to reduce the effect.
@@arapaimagold8088 A plum or rich green largely seem to avoid the ghosting enough to not be an issue, but blacks definitely show through.
A needle-tip rollerball seems a good way to still enjoy crisp black lines without significant ghosting by minimizing ink flow, and the paper is smooth enough that an EF nib might be the way to go with the new paper if you want to continue running a fountain pen with dark inks.
Please do a Jibun Techo video for 2023
will there be a 5 yr eng techo?
What pens do i use best..? Everything seems to smear..
As someone lives in USA crying for this year loft exclusive 'bread thief '...
I love my Hobonichi Techo Cousin, but I wish it had 2 pages per day instead of 1. Still, at this time it is the planner that best suits my needs.
Maybe you could try Hobonichi Day-Free. It's an undated planner.
I heard that midori has a 2 pages a day planner
@@avrilqueen6703 Oooh! I must check that out. Thank you!
Hobonichi plain notebook and transform it into bujo, and you're good to go.
@@DL-idk They do, it’s called the Hibino. No idea if JetPens has it but Yoseka Stationery does on their site.
I kinda wish jetpens could sell the covers separately, I prefer the simplified chinese A6 planner but I don't already own an A6 size notebook cover and im worried the planner will get beaten up before the year is out (because I am not exactly gentle with my stationary, backpacks chew up any and all paper)
Every year I get a new Mother cover.
My favourite is hobonichi 5year tech planner God is great
I wish I could find a Hobonichi weeks mega in Japanese in the US lol.
❤ I’m early yay
i need assistance in figuring out which hobonichi i should get!! i dont want to get a cousin, because theyre very large (i bought one for this year but never did anything to justify such a large space). the only thing i adore from hobonichi are the 24 hr days that i can just.. highlight when i sleep, how long i play games, yknow? is the weeks like that? I dont want a large one, but one that has the 24/7 daily! im not sure. im so bad at research
Hi there! We have a comprehensive guide to Hobonichi Planners here that you might find useful: www.jetpens.com/blog/Guide-to-the-Hobonichi-Techo-Planner/pt/900
If you're looking for a daily planner, we recommend the A6 Techo, A6 Avec (year is split into two booklets) or a Day-Free (undated). The A6 Techo and Avec both have hour scales, though the Day-Free does not. www.jetpens.com/Hobonichi-Techo-Planner-Original-A6/ct/4398?&f=e5a530540ebf1cd1744a9582881e84f2
We also have a guide to all the daily planners we carry here: www.jetpens.com/blog/The-Best-Daily-Planners-for-2023/pt/178
The classic hobonichi has a line for every hour and is just a6. That could fit.
Big bud press jumpsuit ???
Oh how i wish i had the skill to have a planner that does not sit in a random place waiting for me to use it until i inevitably loose it
I want hononichi to do academic planner
This is great. I wonder if they have in Kinokuniya book store in Malaysia.. Its been a long time since i visited a bookstore. Notebooks are so soothing for me. Eventhough im in the workforce now, i ratherly use notebooks. Everything in techno now. All i do now is seeing drawings and measuring. Construction industry is boring af. Just wanna get a notebook and doodle. Nowadays, just get a bypass paper and jot things down.. 🗿🗿🗿..
Just realizing I thought it was Techno, not Techo 😂
Feel like a weeks would work for me but I have a hard time actually filling in planners due to having a separate journal
The Weeks was my first planner this year, and I used it to get myself to keep track of progress at work and in class (back to school at 62 and new job). About a year later, it was a good choice
Please stock the Japanese weeks! Any chance you'll get some of the April starts in Japanese? Or are they going English with those as well?
Hi there! We will only be stocking the Weeks in English, however the Maha Harada Weeks comes in Japanese: www.jetpens.com/Hobonichi-Techo-Weeks-Japanese-Maha-Harada-Maha-Art-Techo-2023-Jan-Start/pd/35409
@@JetPens Thank you!
Is there a Hobonichi 5-Year Planner in English?
I´m plan to use mega weeks for my wallet, day free for finances, cousin AVEC as my main planner.
Booklet weeks for equivances meals. The only thing I don´t like is that Jetpen do not ship to Mexico.
It’s a nice planner, but I need one with the German holidays (best added where they are celebrated as well), otherwise I‘m lost.
We carry Roterfaden Planners! www.jetpens.com/Roterfaden-Calendars/ct/5716
Will you be offering the 5 year in English?
Hi there! Unfortunately the 5 Year only comes in Japanese at this time.
When I arrive in Japan all of them stationary shops are going empty 😎
Is there a reason tomoe river paper couldn't be produced completely the same by sanzen? i assume they already got the license for the brand, so why not the secret recipe for the paper, if it's being discontinued by the original makers anyway?
Personally I like Cosmo Air more than Sanzen paper. But we know hardcore fans of Hobonichi won't accept Cosmo Air.
Basically because paper is very sensitive to any change in the production process. Before discontinuing the paper altogether, Tomoegawa (the original owner and producer of Tomoe River) switched machines and even though it is the same company, same technology, etc, the different machine produced a slightly different paper. The new company likely did get a "recipe" for Tomoe River in the exchange, but reproducing exactly the same product is easier said than done. And as experienced paper makers themselves they likely have their own secrets to put in the mix.
@@arapaimagold8088 Hard core Hobonichi fans would probably accept whatever paper Hobonichi had chosen as long as it was comparable. Cosmo Air Light has significantly different specs though, so it might not have been the best substitute. But Cosmo Air Light has also been discontinued (from what I've heard), so that also rules it out as a suitable successor.
@kurinezumi
I know, terminated because lack of demand. The paper might still have a chance if Hobonichi use them. However hardcore Hobo fans won't accept thicker paper. After all Hobo was loved for the thinness. So the only one left for anyone who love old Toer paper is to buy Midori blank TN while stock last.
OH no...is the new paper fountain pen friendly?
Don't worry, it is!
Too bad they didn't release another art & science leather cover for 2023 edition.
Maybe you could also give actual dimensions instead of describing something as an A6 or A5. Just a quick graphic on screen maybe.
Hi there! You can find our guide to paper sizes on our site here: www.jetpens.com/blog/Paper-Sizes-Explained/pt/836
A5 and A6 are actual dimensions, though, in that they're specific, well-defined sizes.
A5 and A6 are already standard sizes. If you have an A4 size sheet of paper, A5 is just 1/2 of A4 and A6 is 1/2 of A5/ 1/4 of A4...
So who plays DOTA 2? My husband watches the tournaments and plays the game on and off. I gave up my Jibun Techo and JT Days earlier this month. Got tired of carrying two books, so I am carrying the half year Avec. Jet Pens introduced me to Hobonichi back in the spring of 2020. I want the Merry Logbook but I do not think you are carrying it this year.
Thank you, Connie, for such an excellent video. After watching (and speaking as a male), I can't help but notice how feminine the Hobonichi offerings seem to be. Perhaps the company feels that planners are mostly used by women so it works hard to appeal to female buyers. Day-Timers, by contrast, had a gender bias towards men, especially back in the 1980s when my career was starting. I'm not at all being critical of Hobonichi. I just feel a little embarrassed about purchasing their products. On the other hand, I'm also curious to try out the Sanzo paper -- the "2024" paper mentioned at the end of the video. I want to say thank you, again, to Connie and all those who contributed to this truly excellent video. I'm sure it was a big team effort, and I must say all the JetPens videos are of outstanding quality.
I have tried that planner so many times and with 100 different pens but I just can't stand the ghosting, I don't know why they can't make them with a little bit thicker paper. I can't stand seeing what I wrote the previous day or week onto the next page.
Thin and ultra responsive to ink shading is the reason why Hobonichi is well known across the earth. Using thicker papers will make many people walk away from Hobonichi cult.
I actually like the japanese writing for dates, it's just...all those quotes 😔
